A gunshot, a thud and my screams were all I could hear.

I try and run to you, but I have been shot.

I fall. At least close to you.

The car speeds away and I can feel the blood loss. I crawl to you, slowly. I can barely stand, so I crawl. I crawl. I finally reach you and you are shot three times and it fatal by the looks of it. The tears I hate so much blur my vision and sobs escape my throat. I roll on my back on the hard, hot dirt and hold your hand tight.

“B-baby.” You softly whisper, and I cry harder.

“Yes Jiyong?” I cry out.

You turn your head so you are facing me.

“This might be the last time, we say goodbye, Dara-ah.”  You say.

We slipped in to a silence. I can hear your breathing and heartbeat, and it starts to calm me. My tears dry up. How long has it been, an hour? The sun starts to set and the stars come out.

I slowly hug you the best I can.

“Jiyong.” I say softly.

“Yes?”

“Why are you so calm?”

You pull me closer and kiss my forehead.

“Because I have you.” You whisper into my hair.

More tears stain your white shirt, but it’s turned into red by now.

I lift my head up and we stare into each other’s eyes.

I’m feeling cold now. I can feel myself slipping and I think it’s time.

“You know, I should have treated you better.” You say, with your head in the crook of my neck.

“I was fine, Jiyong.”

I hug you tightly and I smile.

“I only have one wish. Do you know what it is Jiyong?” I weakly say.

“What is it Dara?”

“I hope that we will be together again in heaven.”

 

I never thought that we would live like this.

 

 Running from the past.

 

Running.

 

But what mattered was that we did it together.

 

Every day.

 

We went through hell and back.

 

We endured it for each other.

 

And now we have come to an end.

 

But we ended it together.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

And that’s what matters.
