16. SACRIFICE

One mistake got a one regret; "No one's perfect" Even if I tried to say that, whatever I do, the wounds can't be heal

“This is unbelievable.” Jongin said while slouching himself on the couch soon after the three of them reached the eldest’s room. After Soojin left with Soorin, Soojung said that she needed to be alone for some moments. Apparently, she really blamed herself for the unexpected meeting between the two sisters. She kept saying that if she told Soojin to meet her in her room and not at the restaurant then she wouldn’t meet Soorin. But again, if the fate already decided what was going to happen, then no one could escape, right?

While carrying Daehyun in his arms, Kris opened the cupboard and took out a big paper bag from inside. He walked to be bed and sat down with Daehyun on his lap. He could tell that the little boy was curious. He kept trying to peek what’s inside the bag. Slowly, Kris opened the bag and took out three stuffs he bought for his son; Lego, a PSP, and a medium-sized action figure of Iron Man. When he didn’t come to visit them, Kris secretly asked his secretary to buy the stuffs and sent everything to the hotel. He initially planned to give it to Daehyun before he returned to Seoul tomorrow night. But since his son was already there, Kris thought that it would be better if he gave the presents to him now.

“When did you buy the toys?” Jongin asked from his seat, looking at the toys with wide eyes.

“What? Do you want it too?” Kris replied as he dragged both himself and Daehyun to the middle of the bed. He smiled as he saw Daehyun staring at the toys with much anticipation. Curling his little fists into ball, he could tell that Daehyun was trying hard to restrain himself from grabbing them because he hadn’t been told that everything was for him. He was so cute.

“Which one you like the most?” Kris asked and Daehyun glanced up at him almost immediately. Kris could hear Jongin chuckled as he joined them on the bed.

“I…” Daehyun paused right away as he eyes the toys one by one. “I cannot choose.” He pouted.

“If you cannot choose, then I will give you them all.” Kris ruffled his son’s hair. Another chuckle came from Jongin as he watched Daehyun’s hilarious expression. The little boy suddenly stood up and whirled around to face Kris. His mouth agape and his eyes gleamed with excitement.

“Really?” He asked and when Kris nodded his head, he jumped onto him and encircled his arms around Kris’ neck. “Thank you so much, ahjussi! You are the best in the world!” He exclaimed happily.

Kris smiled at the simple compliment he got from Daehyun and wrapped his arms around the boy’s petite body. Daehyun jumped up and down in his embrace, laughing happily. When he was hugging his son, Kris felt like he possessed the whole universe in his arms. The feeling was incomparable. It was something he had never experienced before, not even when he was holding Soojin in his arms. It felt like his life was complete, as if he finally found the missing piece he had been searching for.

Kris could feel Jongin’s eyes on him. He knew that the younger guy was watching the entire scenes from the beginning until this very moment. He turned his head to see Jongin and Jongin was startled a bit when their gazes met. Jongin cleared his throat nervously then looked away. Daehyun slowly released Kris and turned around to play with the toys. Kris ruffled his hair as he watched him playing happily.

“Ask me anything you want to ask, Jongin. There is nothing I can hide from you anymore.” Kris said as he got up from the bed and walked to the refrigerator, taking out a can of Cola.

Jongin bit his lower lip while giving Kris a long look, seeming hesitant with his question. “Hyung, is Daehyun your son?” He kept his voice barely above a whisper.

“Why do you think he is my son?” Kris replied, raising one of his eyebrows.

Jongin his lips nervously. “Because he resembles you so much.” He said carefully.

“That much, uh?” Kris let out a soft chuckle as he glanced at his son who was now busy with his Lego. But before he could continue his words, the door to his room swung open, revealing Luhan with two groceries bags in his hands. He greeted his two friends with his usual smile but his smile vanished right away as he saw an unfamiliar little figure sitting on the bed with Jongin. A loud thud followed the silence as he dropped the groceries bags to the floor.

“Don’t say he is your-” Luhan’s words were cut off by Jongin who immediately jumped out of the bed and rushed toward him to cover his mouth.

“Yes, Luhan. Meet him, Choi Daehyun.” Kris stated as he watched Daehyun with a smile played across his lips. “Daehyun, can you introduce yourself to another friend of mine?”

Jongin immediately released Luhan as he saw Daehyun put down his toys and turn around to see the person Kris was talking about. He stood up and walked to the edge of the bed then bowed to Luhan who was still in daze.

“Hello, uncle!” He greeted brightly. “My name is Daehyun and mom said it means smart. I’m so glad to meet you, uncle.” Both Kris and Jongin couldn’t help but chuckling to hear the way Daehyun introduced himself. He never forgot to tell everyone the meaning of his name, uh?

“, I think I’m looking at the kid version of Wu Yifan. He looks like someone I know all too well from my childhood.” Luhan muttered in Chinese. Daehyun glanced up at Kris with his brows furrowed, obviously because he couldn’t understand what Luhan was saying.

“Hyung, you will scare him if you speak in alien language.” Jongin rolled his eyes.

“Hey Jongin, can you tell me that this is a dream?” He continued.

“Hyung, I don’t understand Chinese, remember?” Jongin shot him a look.

“Ahjussi, I think your friend doesn’t like me.” Daehyun mumbled sadly.

Luhan’s eyes widened when he heard Daehyun’s sad remark. He rushed to the bed and carried him up with his two arms. “Who says I don’t like you? I like you, Daehyun. I like you so much.”

“Really?” Daehyun’s eyes brightened up.

Luhan nodded vigorously. “Yes! I will buy you ice creams and candies if you don’t believe me.”

“What is your name, uncle?”

“My name is Luhan.” Luhan beamed. “But I want you to call me uncle Lulu.” Kris raised his brows at the nickname Luhan mentioned then laughed while Jongin could only shake his head on his spot. Both of them knew how Luhan hated the name. He even smacked Sehun on his head when the younger guy by calling him with the stupid nickname.

“But uncle Lulu, what did you say before? I don’t understand what you were talking about.”

“Oh, I’m talking in Chinese. I told uncle Jongin that you are very handsome. Right, Jonginnie?” He turned his head to Jongin who nodded his head halfheartedly.

“I want to say that you are handsome too but I think you are so pretty, uncle Lulu.” Daehyun said frankly and this time Jongin burst into a loud laughter.

Luhan shook his head. “Uncle Lulu is handsome, not pretty.” He said as he put Daehyun back to the bed. “Go play with your toys, uncle Lulu wants to talk with uncle Jongin and uncle Kris.”

“Who is uncle Kris?” Daehyun asked. Like Soojin, he called Kris with his birth name.

“Oh, I believe you know him as uncle Yifan.” Luhan patted his head. Daehyun turned around to see Kris then walked toward him.

“You have two names?” He asked, tilting his head to one side. Kris nodded. “Kris is a cool name but I like to call you with your another name, ahjussi.”

“You can call me anything you want, baby boy.” He smiled at the little boy.

“Can I call you ‘appa’?” Daehyun replied almost immediately but then he suddenly covered his mouth with his hands. Kris was taken aback by his sudden outburst and from the corner of his eyes he could see Jongin and Luhan exchanging gazes at each other. He walked toward the bed, inching closer to his son.

“I-I’m s-sorry, ahjussi.” Daehyun said, stammering. “It just feels like you are my father because you are so nice to me. I never meet my father. Mom said that he is working somewhere and he will return when I grow up. I always wish to meet him but every time I ask about him, mom looks sad. So, I don’t ask mom about him anymore. But when I see you, even though you are not him, I feel like looking at him. When I’m with you, I feel safe and so happy.” He continued.

Kris ogled Daehyun in awe, unable to utter a single word. He glanced up at his two friends and he could tell that they were speechless too. He lifted up his hand, caressing Daehyun’s cheek before drawing the little boy into his embrace. He his back gently and he could feel him resting his head on his shoulder.

“You can call me ‘appa’, Daehyun.” Kris said softly.

“Umm… is it really alright?” Daehyun asked hesitantly.

“Of course, it is alright. Try it now. I would like to hear it.” Kris encouraged him.

“If that so…” There was a brief silence before he continued. “Umm… appa, thank you for making me feel loved. I’m so glad to meet you. You are my second favorite person in the world after mom.” He said innocently and sincerely.

Kris felt his vision became blurry before his tears finally trickled down his face. It had been four years since the last time he cried and it was when the news of Choi Soojin’s death reached his ears. But this time, he was not crying because of the sadness but because he was too happy and the overwhelming feeling was just too much for him to handle. Daehyun might not know that he was his father but to hear his son calling him ‘appa’, it was more than enough for him though Soojin would never let Daehyun know about his true identity.

“Appa, why are you crying?” Daehyun asked as he pulled back only to find Kris crying. He held out his hand to touch the elder’s face and wiped his tears.

Kris let out a soft laugh then wiped his own tears. “I guess I’m too happy, Daehyun.”

Daehyun raised his brows cutely. “Because I’m calling you ‘appa’?”

“Because you’re calling me ‘appa’.” Kris repeated his words then leaned forward to kiss Daehyun’s forehead.

Daehyun grinned widely but then he knitted his eyebrows together, creating furrows in between as if he was trying to remember something and when he could remember it, he placed his both hands on his cheeks.

“Uncle Lulu said that he wants to talk with you. Oh my God, I make him wait too long.” He said with wide eyes, making the trio laugh over his ingenuousness. “Appa, go talk to him. I will play with my toys and I won’t try to eavesdrop your conversation.”

“Seriously, I swear that you have ever said almost the same things when you are in his age, Kris.” Luhan remarked after he stops laughing.

“Like father like son.” Jongin sang as he put his arms around Luhan’s shoulder.

“So, is she here? I mean, Choi Soojin.” Luhan asked in a low voice. Kris nodded.

“Does it mean Luhan hyung know that you already found Soojin noona? How could you not tell me, hyung?” Jongin said, noticing that he was the only party among the three of them who didn’t know anything about the secret.

“Soojin doesn’t want anyone knows, especially her sister, that she is still alive. If I told you, there would be a high possibility of you telling Sehun, and when Sehun knows this, I believe he will tell Soorin immediately. So, I decided to tell this secret only to Luhan.” Kris explained.

Jongin gave him a long look before he shot Kris another question. “Does Luhan hyung know that-”

“-Daehyun is his son?” Luhan cut him off before he could finish his sentence. Jongin nodded. “Kris told me about it even before he found out that Soojin is still alive.”

“I don’t understand. How could Kris hyung know that he has a son-” Jongin paused in the middle of his sentence but then he lifted his brows as if he finally could put all the pieces in his mind into one complete picture. “Oh my God, don’t tell me that something happened between you and Soojin noona four years ago and it was the reason why she hided herself though she survived from the accident.”

“She has never experienced the accident. There was no accident. Everything was just a scheme.” Kris told him. “If there was an accident then there was no possibility for my son could have been born.”

“Do you mean… she plotted her death?” Jongin asked, his eyes filled with horror.

“Yes.” Kris answered briefly. He didn’t feel like repeating the same story over and over again. It just added more pain inside him, suffocating him with the guiltiness.

“Err, Jongin.” Luhan said as if he could sense Kris’ uneasiness. “You can ask me everything later. It must be hard for Kris to tell you the same thing he told me before.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, hyung. I don’t mean to.” Jongin said apologetically while scratching the back of his neck. It was kinda a habit of him doing the gesture every time he felt sorry.

“It’s okay, Jongin. I just don’t feel like talking about it again.”

“Kris, where is Soojin? You don’t kidnap Daehyun, do you?” Luhan and his remarkable thought. Kris rolled his eyes at him.

“Daehyun comes here with Soojin noona and now she is talking with Soorin in her room.” Jongin answered Luhan’s question for Kris.

“What? Soorin knows that she is alive too?” Luhan reflexively raised his voice, gaining a smack on his head from Jongin. “I’m still your hyung, Kim Jongin!”

“You are supposed to be more mature than me if you think you are my hyung seriously.”

“Appa, are uncle Jongin and uncle Lulu fighting?” Daehyun suddenly asked, glancing up at the three of them from the bed. He slowly dragged himself out of the bed and walked toward them. He took Jongin’s hand with his right hand and Luhan’s hand with left hand then interlaced them together. “Mom said that fight with your friend won’t bring any good to your friendship. It’s better if you apologize soon because a good friend can’t be found easily.” He continued and Kris couldn’t help but smiling at the little boy’s wise action.

There was a long dead silence between the two sisters before Soojin decided to speak first. As for the younger girl, she really didn’t know what she should say to Soojin. She might be the one who i

Chapter 31: This is realistic, if I'm in Soorin's shoes, I'll choose sehun too. But in Soojin case, she has someone who lover her but she didn't love him back but she also has someone who she love and love her back so why should she choose Chanyeol when Yifan himself not even bad guy. I mean he didn't hit her, cheat or have any toxic personality that makes her better off without him. So yeah this situation is kinda complicated tbh. It can change depends on the person. In some situation i would choose Chanyeol over someone I love if the one I love don't even love me back or if he actually love me, but he is toxic so yeah.

Chapter 30: This was the most beautifully written fic I've read in a long time. I can't describe in words how Kris character made me feel a roller coaster of emotions and how much I wanted the world for him , his love for Soojin was so pure so selfless so mesmerizing it makes me want to have my faith in love too. Thou at some points I hate Soojin for being so stubborn towards her own happiness but I really have to admit her love for Kris also made me speechless .
This was so good author I am so happy I found this *-*

Chapter 30: wow i cried reading this, the way you portrays about love from the pov of diff character in this story really amazes me i love it so much i feel like you’ve delivered the meaning of love very deeply in this story! i highly respect kris’ love towards soojin, how he respects her decision eventhough it hurts him & knowing that he probably will never learn to love again, that shows how great of his love towards her damn im so touched! i also can’t believe soojin is way more stubborn than i thought hahaha, but she’s actually just too kind & selfless to think about others more than herself. However, i’m so disappointed with chanyeol, he was still selfish until the end, it’s not love but more of an obsession. I’m glad it ended very well, kris & soojin finally get the happy life together like how they deserve! i’m happy that soorin has finally found love in sehun too, it was a well written story!
