Forty
His ReplyA/N: I enjoyed writing this fic as much as you enjoyed reading it. Thanks for the two years of love and support. Now we're down to the last chapter. :)
JUNE 2016
The only real bargain in falling in love is getting hurt. It's true in my case, but without pain, I wouldn't have the one person I've been pining for so long.
Yoon Jae and I have been going steady for a year now. We may have petty fights and opposite schedules, but we never fail to make it up in one way or another. Being with him makes my every day happier. Loving him everyday makes me more alive.
It's been a year since Shi Won died. Looking back at the past year, it was all a crazy ride, one that broke me and made me whole again. It was also in that year where Yoon Jae stood by my side, for better or worse.
I am inside her room now, looking around at the things she left. Our friendship started just the way it were. It got complicated after I told her I like Yoon Jae via chat. It was in high school, and I really didn't know how to control my feelings then. Thinking about all of it now, I couldn't help but wish she didn't die. As a friend, she's important to me as much as Yoon Jae is.
I lie on her bed just as the door opens. Yoon Jae comes in. he smiles at me.
“Let's go.”
I get up and go out of the room first. It's heartbreaking to think he'll be away for two weeks. He has to go to the Philippines for business. I don't know how I'm gonna survive that.
Yoo Jung and the others are still eating in the kitchen. Yoon Jae told me he said his goodbyes to them earlier. He holds my hand and we walk out of the house. Mr. Sung greets us as he comes inside the house.
“Take care, Yoon Jae.”
He looks at our clasped hands. “And you too, Kang Joon Hee.”
“We'll go ahead, aboji.” I say.
He smiles and nods his head.
The travel to the airport is quiet. Neither of us are saying a word. I don't know what to say. I don't even want to say anything.
He still holds my hand as we come inside the airport terminal. I swallow the lump in my throat just to calm myself down.
“Don't worry, I'll be back.” he says.
“You should, because I'll wait for you.”
we stop in the middle of the terminal. He pulls me in a tight hug.
“I'm gonna miss you, Kang Joon Hee.” he whispers in my ears.
I bury my face in his chest. It would take me so long before i'll feel his touch again.
“I love you.”
He puts a distance between us and kisses my lips. It's long and hard, good for the time that he'll be away.
“I love you too, baby.” he says.
His reply is all I need to get me by. I love him. So bad that I wanted to keep him beside me all day.
“You should go now. Take care.”
He starts to walk away and waves at me.
“I told Hyeon Jae to pick you up. He's waiting for you outside.”
I smile and wave back at him. He'll be back soon, I know.
And true to his word, Hyeon Jae is already outside the airport terminal when I got out. He's leaning on his red car. He smiles at me.
“Ready to work, Dr. Kang?” he asks me.
I nod. “Of course.”
“Then, let's go.”
We climb inside his car. After fastening our seat belts, he slowly speeds down the highway.
“Yoon Jae will come back, okay? So don't be sad.” he chuckles.
I lean on the car window.
“I know.” I whisper.
