Home for Christmas

With a small, grey suitcase laying open on the edge of his bed, Jongdae diligently searched his closet for clothes fit for the winter. Neatly folding each article of clothing, he placed it gently into the suitcase, filling it up. Closing the top, Jongdae pulled hard on the old zipper to seal it before lifting it off the bed and onto the floor, pushing it into a small corner of his dainty room. Glancing out the window at the busy China streets, he flopped onto his bed. Jongdae had always wanted to become a journalist so coming to China was a great experience although it meant leaving behind his family, friends, home, and basically, his whole life. He had quickly found a dainty one bedroom apartment near the heart of Beijing and fell in love with the place, the bustle of the city just beneath the window yet a quaint peace within it's walls.

Christmas was just around the corner and he was flying back to Seoul to meet his friends, family and his boyfriend, Yixing, a Chinese college student who moved to Korea to pursue his dream of becoming a dancer. Funny how they moved to each other's homelands in order to pursue their own dreams. Jongdae grinned as he reminisced about their first meeting.

Jongdae had just started college, barely three months in, when his best friend, Minseok, asked (more like forced) him to go to a party he was holding. Jongdae remembered standing awkwardly in the far corner of the room, not recognizing anyone but Minseok who had his lips glued to the face of a young, doe-like Chinese boy, while they pawed at each other on the worn out couch in Minseok's living room. Jongdae giggled as he thought of how Minseok and the other boy toppled off the couch after suddenly losing their balance and crashing onto the floor with a loud thud, attracting everyone's attention. An attractive Chinese boy with brown hair had then come running into the room, looking worried, stopping just before Minseok and his partner as he realized what had happened. Frowning, the brunette had proceeded to scold the doe-like male in Chinese, causing the former to blush furiously and Minseok to look away guiltily as everyone else stifled giggles. When the scolding was finally done, the Chinese brunette sighed and looked around the room, coincidentally meeting Jongdae's eyes. Jongdae had immediately looked away, a blush creeping onto his face and his heart raced, whether from shyness or something else, he still didn't know to this day. When Jongdae had finally looked back, the Chinese boy was gone, much to Jongdae's dismay. Jongdae had thought that the Chinese boy was just another stranger, a face in a crowd that he'd never remember. That is, until the said boy's face kept constantly popping up in Jongdae's thoughts, going so far as to show up in a couple of Jongdae's dreams. That's when Jongdae had to find out who this boy was. After some (not so) inconspicuous searching, Jongdae found out that the boy's name was Zhang Yixing. He was a dance major who had transferred from China and joined the dance team, instantly becoming one of their best members.

Jongdae chuckles as he remembers himself lying awake at 4AM in the darkness of his dorm room, racking his brain to try to figure out how to get closer to Yixing. He had decided to get some fresh air and snuck out of the dorm to walk through campus. Walking aimlessly, he ended up in front of the school's main bulletin board where there were thousands of colorful fliers pinned on top of more fliers in order to get freshmen to join some clubs and activities. Jongdae remembers scanning the board and somehow finding the light blue flier for the dance club and seeing the small print that said, "No previous experience needed." Of course Jongdae believed it and signed himself up for the dance club the very next day, albeit being uncoordinated and clumsy.

It was the worst decision of his life.

He entered the little dance studio at about 4pm, just as the flier indicated and he was met with many friendly grins of the people who had come early to stretch and warm up. Trying to fit in, Jongdae stretched as best as he could while trying to avoid gawking at the students who were doing splits and pulling their legs above their heads. He remembered how the dance instructor, a tan male that looked younger than himself, walked in calmly and casually and Jongdae envied his confidence. Jongdae had spotted a straight faced and serious Yixing walking in, behind the instructor and remembered how his heart had raced from the sight of the Chinese boy, not hearing the instructor when he informed them that they had to dance solo in order for him to evaluate their levels. Yixing had been instructed to go first and Jongdae's jaw dropped the moment Yixing lifted his foot off the ground.

Yixing was elegant and graceful yet strong and powerful. Yixing had been the most beautiful person Jongdae had ever seen. When he had finished, he bowed and everyone clapped when he had sat down, breath uneven and a slight sweat building up on his forehead. The other students had gone next but Jongdae couldn't focus on anyone else, his eyes continuing to flitter back to Yixing. When it had finally become Jongdae's turn, he got up shyly and danced with whatever ability he could (which was close to none), tripping over his own feet halfway through. The instructor had soon asked him to stop and Jongdae flushed from embarrassment and everyone stifled their laughs. As politely as he could, the instructor told Jongdae that, "Maybe this isn't the right club for you." and Jongdae bowed, still blushing. Jongdae remembers glancing towards Yixing and seeing him smile, no malice behind it, just pure kindness and maybe a little pity. Grabbing his stuff, Jongdae had quickly left the studio, grinning although the day had been a complete disaster. Dance wouldn't be so bad if he could see Yixing smile like that everyday, Jongdae remembers thinking, although he quit the club the very next day.

Somehow, Minseok had heard of Jongdae's failure in dance, creating a living hell for Jongdae whenever they were together. Minseok would nonstop, gaining him sympathetic looks from Minseok's new boyfriend, the doe-eyed boy, Luhan. Minseok, being Jongdae's closest friend, also deducted that Jongdae must have had a crush on someone in the dance club or else he would never had joined. This was another point that Minseok teased and badgered Jongdae about non-stop. Jongdae remembers how he used to hate Minseok for being able to read him like an open book. The memories from then on are a bit blurry but all that matters is that Jongdae and Yixing are happily dating now, although living in different countries.

Grinning, Jongdae got up from his bed and moved to the small desk across the room. Picking up the small desk calendar and uncapping the black pen next to it, Jongdae crossed off the 18th of December.

"Only a couple more days to go" Jongdae whispered softly to himself before setting the calendar back onto his desk.

Scrunching up his nose, Jongdae stared at the Chinese letters on the signs hanging above his head in the ginormous airport. Although Jongdae had been living in China for the past year, he could still barely read any Chinese without having to squint at it and search his brain hard for any familiarity of the characters. The little English letters beneath the Chinese were no help either, seeing as how Jongdae didn't think he would need English, thus avoiding English class altogether while he was in college. He was starting to regret it now. Sighing, Jongdae pulled out his little Chinese-Korean dictionary, something he had been trying to avoid using, and began flipping through the pages, praying that he wouldn't miss his flight. Finally finding the right words, he matched it to the signs and ran across the spotless floor, dragging his suitcase along as he pushed through the throng of people who were rushing to catch their flight as well.

Finally reaching his gate, Jongdae was panting as he placed himself at the back of the boarding line. Slowly regaining his breath, Jongdae tucked his dictionary into the side pocket of his backpack and moved forward when the entire line did. When he finally got on the plane, Jongdae lifted his small suitcase into the overhead compartment with much difficulty, internally cursing himself for being so weak. Settling down into his seat with a small sigh of relief, Jongdae slid his backpack under the seat in front of him before leaning back in his own seat, getting ready for the 3 hour flight ahead of him. Wrapping his jacket tighter around him and nuzzling into his scarf, Jongdae imagined the cold snow and icy, biting wind of Korea in order to prepare himself in contrast to the dry heat of China's winter.

Yixing rocked on the balls of his feet, waiting anxiously. It's been a year since he last saw his precious little boyfriend and he couldn't wait until he could finally wrap his arms around the smaller boy again. Staring at the arrivals door, Yixing clutched a sign that said "Kim Jongdae", decorated with hearts of various sizes. ing the sign into the air when a voice over the intercom announced the arrival of the flight from Beijing, the one that Jongdae should be on, Yixing searched the faces of the crowd slowly emerging from beyond the automatic glass door. As the large crowd thinned and eventually faded, Yixing was disappointed and shocked that Jongdae wasn't there. Maybe he had the wrong flight? Maybe his clumsy boyfriend missed the flight altogether? Maybe he had the wrong time? Maybe–

Yixing squealed loudly and dropped the sign as a sudden hot breath hit the back of his neck. Petite arms wrapped around his waist from the back and a small warmth was pressed against the base of his neck, causing Yixing to cringe. Wriggling to loosen the tight grip around him, Yixing spun around, ready to chastise whoever it was (he had a pretty good idea of who it could be already), and was met with the crescent shaped eyes, slightly covered by his black bangs, and pink, feline lips of his boyfriend who was grinning mischievously up at him. Yixing returned the hug, wrapping his toned arms around Jongdae's thin waist as Jongdae shifted his arms to wrap around Yixing's neck, tickling Yixing slightly so that he would cringe again. Yixing pulled a face but couldn't bring himself to be even the slightest bit upset at the smaller whom he missed so dearly. Craving the petite Korean boy, Yixing quickly captured his trollish grin in a long, breath taking kiss that left the slightly younger boy's lips a nice shade of red.

"I'm back," Jongdae captures Yixing's lips in another kiss, this time shorter and much sweeter.

"Welcome back, honey. I missed you," Yixing whispered, peppering kisses along Jongdae's jaw and the sides of his mouth, tightening his hold on the boy's waist.

"I missed you too," Jongdae giggled, relishing Yixing's touch.

"Is it just me or have you gotten cuter?" Yixing buried his face into Jongdae's hair, taking in deep breaths of the hazelnut scent that had long since disappeared from his bedsheets, much to Yixing's dismay.

"If it just me or have you gotten cheesier?" Jongdae replies teasingly, pulling away from Yixing, causing the dancer to pout.

Jongdae just chuckles as he grabs his suitcase and wheels it away from Yixing and towards the exit of the airport. Picking up the previously dropped sign, Yixing quickly trails after his boyfriend, not wanting to be apart for another second. With the sign tucked under his left arm, Yixing wraps his right arm around Jongdae's shoulder, pulling the smaller boy close as they walk into the snowy night.

"Let's go home," Yixing whispers lovingly to Jongdae who nods happily in response, grinning at Yixing.

Pulling Jongdae closer to his side, Yixing places a soft, warm kiss atop Jongdae's snow sprinkled head as they head back to the sanctuary of the apartment they bought together.

Their home.
