Yellow PagesArmed with determination and confidence, the two teams head to the office together for their June evaluation. They’ve been practicing earnestly, staying up all night to perfection and preparing for their costumes so there’s no reason to feel scared.
When they got to the studio, the cameras are all arranged as usual and there is lesser staff around, too. They wonder for a second until anxiety bothers them again because they need last-minute check-ups and preparations to make sure everything is perfect and set.
Five minutes later, familiar and known producers working under YG Entertainment, like Choice37, Lydia Paek and others, emerge from the door. Behind them are Epik High and—
Hayi.
Hanbin’s eyes widen like saucers, but he quickly dons a straight expression to avoid any suspicions. The other ten boys cast subtle looks towards Hanbin’s directions because they know and they wonder if Hanbin knows about this.
Apparently, he doesn’t.
President YG then comes into view.
“Let’s start.”
President YG explains the rules and conditions and the prize for the team that wins today’s evaluation. Both teams stand in attention, their ears perked up; all eyes are on the President.
Except Hanbin’s.
His are on the girl next to the President.
As team A prepares for their performance, Hanbin can’t help but sneak glances at Hayi from time to time. She’s got her vacant look on her face while she sits right next to the President himself.
And then, their eyes meet.
Hayi winks, mouths good luck and diverts her attention back to the front.
Hanbin chuckles heartily.
It’s team B’s turn afterwards. Hanbin gives his team members one last firm look. Ready?
Born ready!—they all reply with determination clouding their eyes.
They stand in position and the music starts playing. Turn All the Lights On by T-pain fills up the entire place, and the six kids never forget to have fun. Hanbin knows he can trust his team because they got his back; and he got theirs.
Once in a while, when Hanbin isn’t giving the President that confident eye contact, he’s focused on Hayi.
All performances have finished and it’s time for the people watching to vote for either team A or team B. Team B stays at the center as team A marches to the front with the kids as well. They’re all tired, sweaty and nervous but at the same time, relieved because finally it’s done.
Hanbin gazes at Hayi, who’s too immersed in thinking of which team to choose. Of course, Hanbin expects Hayi to cheer for his team, but he doesn’t want her to choose them just because she’s biased. He wants her to choose based on what her gut is telling her.
(He still hopes she chooses B.)
When it’s too much, Jinhwan elbows Hanbin on the rib to catch his attention, and to remind him not to make it too obvious because a lot of eyes are watching.
(Hanbin prays that their team wins.
And that Hayi chooses B, too.)
In the end, Hayi chooses A, but team B still wins anyway.
