She sat in the leather chair in front of the coal fire, facing her father under the ominous glow of the candlelit chandelier above them, their shadows spreading the full width of the wall behind them. He'd been biding his time to eventually sit down and explain to her why he had to depart. It wasn't out of choice but it was crucial to keep the family mansion in their possession.
"I know what you're going to tell me, Father. I've heard you discussing it with Uncle for months, I've been expecting it," Tiffany spoke first, staring at her lap, breaking the silence and lifting the heavy atmosphere.
"Darling, it's unavoidable. If I don't go now we'll lose everything we have and then where will we be?" Sir Hwang took a cigarette out of his pocket and placed it on the edge of his lips. He then picked up the box of matches on the side table and created a flame, lighting the tobacco.
"I completely understand the circumstances, Father, it's inevitable. What I do not understand is why I can't be left here by myself? Why must I have company from someone I have never once met before? I have no recognition of this person, yet you intend for them to cater for me."
"Ah, so you heard that as well? It really is lucky I didn't give any descriptive of this person to your uncle. Don't worry, Tiffany. I've arranged it so this someone will have no complications on taking my place and to grant your every wish while I'm gone. You shall meet them at 8 o'clock sharp tomorrow morning," he inhaled on the cigarette and exhaled a cloud of silver mist.
"Why can't I know about this person prior to tomorrow, Father?"
"You can know about them. In time."
"Yes, Father," Tiffany stood up and headed for the door that leads into the hall without speaking a single word or looking back, "Goodnight."
I decided to start this while the idea's fresh in my head otherwise I wouldn't get around to writing it. Just a quick note to the people that read my other fic, I am still writing that, just I've come to a block at the moment so I apologise for the delay. I want to make this foreword pretty short so I'm just going to finish off by saying I hope you enjoy what I have to offer with this one.
