My Story

Melody of Love [One Shot] Sung Gyu

Please enjoy this one shot as much as many of you have enjoyed my other ones ^^

I walked in to the practice room furthest from everyone. When I opened the door I was surprised to find a pair of eyes looking at me.

“Whoa,” I said instinctively.

“Sorry, I’m guessing you’re the person who requested this practice room next right?” He started. I nodded, smiling at him. I didn’t know this guy, but he seemed like he was a person of gentle character.

“Yes,” I answered shortly. I didn’t know what to tell him.

“Have fun practicing,” He told me, as he waved good bye. I smiled and waved back at him. As soon as he was out of sight, I turned my attention towards the piano in the center of the room. I ran my fingers across the keys and unconsciously started playing Chopin’s Fantasie. As my fingers gently pressed the melody of the middle of the piece I hear something like a phone go off. I stopped playing and looked up to see the guy from earlier.

“A-ahh… umm sorry, I came back for my backpack, but I heard you play. You are really talented,” He complimented. I grinned.

“Thanks. I really just play to de-stress,” I confessed. He smiled and nodded at me.

“Well I should get going. Oh, and I didn’t catch your name.” He said, pointing at me.

“My name is Yeun call me any variation of that you’d like,” I suggested. He nodded, and grabbed his backpack.

“Well my name is Sunggyu. Maybe we’ll see each other again some time,” He added. I shrugged, not giving him a direct answer.

I hope we do. He has a really nice smile…

I waved as he left and went back to playing the piano.

[Sunggyu’s POV]

I walked out of the practice area and couldn’t stop smiling.

Yeun huh? She’s cute..

Once I was out of the practice room I heard a voice calling me.

“Sunggyu!” The voice exclaimed. I turned and waved at Woohyun.

“What are you doing here?’ I asked.

“Well I came to leave some music books for my neighbor. What about you?” He wondered. I smiled.

“I came to practice some singing. My professor wanted me to sing for some kind of festival that is going on here.” I informed him.

“Well unless you want to sing all a cappella I can ask my neighbor if she’ll be your accompaniment.” Woohyun suggested.

“Is she cute?” I joked. Woohyun grinned widely.

“I would say so. She’s a piano player too.” He told me. I laughed.

“Well if she wouldn’t mind that would help me out a lot.” I agreed.

“Cool I’ll let her know,” Woohyun told me.

[Normal POV]

After I finished with my practice I decided to head home. However, right before I left school grounds I ran in to my neighbor, Woohyun.

“Hey there Woohyunie,” I greeted him. He smiled and put an arm around my shoulder.

“Yeunie… I was looking for you.” He stated. I looked at him curiously, as we continued to walk off of campus.

“Really? What do you need me to do now? And remember I’m not hooking you up with any of my friends,” I reminded him. He chuckled.

“Actually a friend of mine has to sing for the school festival that is coming up soon, and I was wondering if you would help him out and be his accompaniment.” He informed me. I sighed and chuckled.

“Well I guess since it’s for the school I won’t mind.” I responded. He squeezed my shoulder even tighter.

“Great! My friend is going to be so happy that you agreed,” Woohyun exclaimed. I shrugged not really knowing what I was getting myself in to.

“Woohyun?” I heard a voice questioned. I turned and found the same guy from my practice room earlier.

“Sunggyu-ssi?” I questioned, as I saw his face, making sure it was him.

“Yeun-ssi? I didn’t know that you knew Woohyun so well,” He responded, looking over at Woohyun’s arm that was around my shoulder.

“Ah well we’ve been neighbors ever since we were younger so this idiot is almost like my brother,” I explained. I really didn’t know why, but I wanted to make it clear to him that Woohyun and I were no more than friends.

“On the other hand I’m your bestest friend in the whole world and you didn’t tell me you two knew each other,” Woohyun exclaimed as if we had committed some great crime.

“I met him today,” I shot back at him. He showed both of his hands at me as if he was surrendering.

“Well call it destiny but Yeunnie Sunggyu is the friend who needed an accompaniment.” Woohyun informed us. I looked over at Sunggyu and shot him a smile. He showed me one in return.

Uwa… there goes his cute smile again… I thought. I loved how sweet this guy looked. I can understand why he was friends with Woohyun. Sunggyu was probably just as popular as Woohyun and had his share of girls as well.

“Don’t be fooled by his innocence Yeunnie, Sunggyu is just as popular as I am,” Woohyun told me wiggling his eyebrows, as if he was reading my mind. Then Sunggyu stepped in.

“Ah… please don’t compare me to Woohyun… I’m not that much like him,” Sunggyu insisted. I couldn’t help but laugh at the mini feud that was going on between Sunggyu and Woohyun.

“Oh c’mon hyung you know you’re like me. You even asked if Yeunnie was cute.” Woohyun commented. I looked over at Sunggyu and I could’ve sworn his cheeks turned pink.

“Yah I was joking!” Sunggyu defended. I stepped in between them.

“Alright guys as much as I’d love to see this continue, I kind of want to go home. How about we practice tomorrow in the same practice room?” I asked looking over in Sunggyu’s direction. He nodded and flashed me the ok sign. “Alrighty see you guys around,” I waved walking away.

“Yah Yunnie at least let us walk you home!” Woohyun yelled, grabbing Sunggyu and running after me. It was sort of strange walking home with Sunggyu coming along, at first. I learned lots of things about him. I learned he was singer, he was really smart, and he had a radiant personality. I didn’t know what it was about him but he had this aura that made me want to be around him longer.

“So I’ll see you at the practice room?” He announced before leaving. I nodded smiling at him. We stood there staring at each other until Woohyun butted in.

“Yah if I didn’t know better I would say you like Sunggyu better than me.” Woohyun declared, pouting.

“Maybe I do?” I claimed, smirking and walking towards the door of my house. I looked over to see Sunggyu cheering.

“Yah how could you do this to me Yeunnie? I’ve known you since we were younger.” Woohyun whined. I grinned.

“Or maybe I don’t?” I added, and watched as Sunggyu’s expression change and his cheering stopped. Then Woohyun started cheering. I laughed and waved.

“Bye guys…” I waved, walking in to my house.

2 weeks passed and I gradually got closer to Sunggyu. The festival was coming up and I was kind of sad that I wouldn’t be spending as much time with Sunggyu. So as usual I locked my self up in a practice room and started playing the piano. Sunggyu and I were not rehearsing today afterschool because he was going to some meeting about the festival, so I took advantage of the reserved practice room. Then I heard the door open. I looked up to see Sunggyu.

“Hey there… I thought I could find you here.” He greeted me. I smiled.

“What did the meeting end early?” I asked. He nodded.

“That and I ran all the way over here hoping I could find you playing.” He pouted.

“Well if you want me to play,” I stated, putting my hands over the keys. Sunggyu quickly grabbed my hands.

“No don’t… I just like seeing your concentrated face,” He admitted, smiling at me. I quickly made note of how close together we were. I felt his breath trickle on my face. I couldn’t help but blush.

There he goes again saying sweet things at me.

“Yah, stop flirting,” I scolded, taking my wrists from him. He merely laughed.

“How about I treat you to some ice cream? Think of it as payment for dealing with me.” He suggested. I shrugged.

“How can I say no to ice cream? Let’s go!” I cheered, grabbing his wrist and running towards the nearest ice cream stand. When we got our ice cream we sat on a bench eating. “Thanks Sunggyu-ssi,” I thanked. Did I mention I couldn’t drop the formalities with him?

“Oppa,” He said. I looked at him questionably.

“Huh?” I wondered.

“Call me Sunggyu oppa,” He demanded. I continued to my ice cream.

“Fine… thank you Sunggyu oppa.” I repeated.  I quickly saw a smile appear on his face.

“So the performance is tomorrow. Do you think we are ready?” He asked me. I nodded biting some of my cone.

“Yes… we’ll do great.” I responded. Then he looked out towards the street and sighed.

“I hope so… can you promise me something?” He suddenly asked. I tilted my head at him and gave him a questioning expression.

“Depends,” I inquired.

“Just promise me that we’ll hang out even after the performance is over,” He insisted. I couldn’t help the smile that was creeping on to my face.

“I promise.” I declared. The next thing I know I see Sunggyu inches away from my face. “I-is something w-wrong?” I stuttered.

“You have ice cream right here…” he said wiping the side of my lip.

“Oh… Kamsamnida,” I muttered feeling my cheeks flair with heat. I heard him chuck and he the finger that had the ice cream on it.

“Yum,” He grinned. I pouted and covered my face.

“You enjoy making me squirm don’t you?” I mumbled. I heard his melodious laugh as he got up to stand in front of me.

“C’mon I’ll walk you home. We need to get ready for tomorrow.” He stated. I nodded and we both got up to leave.

I don’t know if I’m ready yet…

[The performance]

Aside from being nervous, I quickly found out about Sunggyu’s popularity. All I would hear would be things like “Sunggyu oppa Hwaiting!”, “Sunggyu oppa I love you”, and “Sunggyu oppa your are the best.” I sighed hearing that. What hope did I have with my newly realized crush? He had so many girls after him. What made me any different? It made me a little down thinking that, but I decided it wasn’t about my relationship with him. I just had to do what I was asked to do.

“You ready?” Sunggyu asked me with a smile on his face. I would be lying if I didn’t think that he looked great, but then again… I thought Sunggyu looked great all of the time.

“As ready as I can be…” I answered. He shot another smile at me. “You sure have a lot of fans,” I commented, standing next to him on deck.

“Well there’s only one person’s attention I really want,” He admitted. I looked over in his direction curiously.

“Is she going to be watching?” I wondered. He had an all knowing grin on his face.

“Well you can say that,” He muttered. I felt my heart sink as soon as he said that.

“Then you need to have a great performance to impress her,” I stated. He shrugged.

“I don’t know if the performance is going to impress her.” He mumbled. I didn’t quite understand. What girl in their right mind wouldn’t be impressed by his performance? Before I could question anything else, we went up to stage and I started playing Nothing Better by Brown Eyed Soul. We had practiced this so much that we naturally were synced together. I loved how sweet, pure and full Sunggyu’s voice sounded at that moment. How I wished that he was singing especially for me. I could tell that he sang with emotion for this girl. I knew I was impressed.

That girl is so lucky….

After his performance there was roaring applause and we both bowed our way off the stage.

“So what did you think?” He asked me.

“That was well done oppa… great job,” I responded showing him a thumbs up. I then let out a sigh. “Well I guess this is the end huh oppa?” I said, feeling sad. Then he grabbed wrists. I gasped out of surprise. “Um… oppa what are you doing?” I questioned.

“It’s not the end…I was hoping that…” He started. I looked at his face and could tell that he was squirming in his thoughts.

“Hoping that?” I wondered.

“l-lets g-go o-on a d-date…” He suggested. This once confident male turned in to a shy little boy. I smirked at him.

“Are you saying that the girl whose attention you wanted was…me?” I asked, pointing at myself. He nodded rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“We don’t have to do anything if you don’t want… I mean we can just stay friends if that’s what you wan-“ I intertwined my hands with his.

“Oppa… if that’s your way of telling me you like me… then I like you too,” I stated, surprised at the courage I suddenly had.

“S-seriously!” He exclaimed. I nodded smiling. Then he grabbed my face and kissed both of my cheeks. “You don’t know how happy you’ve made me,” He confessed. I couldn’t help but blush and smile.

“Well lets go on a date…”I stated. He nodded smiling.

“Whatever you want… your wish is my command,” He recited. I rolled my eyes. However, I couldn’t be happier.
