The World's Greatest Thief

Description

Kim Jongin was known as the World's Greatest Thief, though, the world didn't know who Kim Jongin was. They only knew him as the Phantom. Do Kyungsoo was the son of one of the most prestigious families and heir to a grand fortune. What happens when his home becomes the Phantom's next target?

Foreword

Jongin smirked as he crouched at the edge of the roof right above the window. He could be adorned in bright white clothing and still not get caught. Actually, that was exactly what he was doing. He wore thin, flowy garments that were trimmed with gold; just because he could afford it. He placed the mask over his eyes, white and gold to match his clothes, before making his move.

He swung from the ledge and right into the open window.

What fool leaves their window open at night? He thought.

He rolled on the floor to cushion the landing and looked around. Just as he thought; the baby's room. He learned from experience that the best place to break in was the kid's room and not the parent's. It was common sense really, but Jongin liked to remind himself about how good he became at this. He saw that the baby squirmed in its sleep most likely from the cold air and the fact that the blanket wasn't over them. He walked over to the crib and tucked the baby back in. He left the window open, however, for a quieter escape.

Once he finished up at the home, he left through the same window he came in from, closing it on his way out.

Foolish people. How dare they leave a baby's window open. Someone could break in and kidnap them.

He laughed at the irony of himself complaining about breaking in. He pulled the diamond from his pocket as he perched on the windowsill. He smirked down at it before tucking it back away and figured he should be on his way. He pressed the microphone on the collar of his shirt to reach the captain.

"Sehun, bring me up now." He whispered.

It took merely seconds for his airship to send down the ladder for him to climb back. He was glad he invested in those reflective panels so that his not-so-small hideout could remain hidden in the skies. No one would ever think to look for the World's Greatest Thief in the skies. Their petty minds were stuck on the ground.

"Junmyeon! I'm back!" Jongin called out as he walked into the main cabin and set his mask down on a table. The entire ship was practically his home; as if he even had one anywhere else. It was complete with a living room in his main cabin and everyone else's rooms surrounding. Ever see Castle in the Sky? It was something like that.

"How'd it go today, Jongin?" Said boy appeared from a different door. Junmyeon was Jongin's backbone. He provided him moral support, ideas, and did calculations that Jongin was too lazy to do himself. Whenever Jongin had a plan, he'd never go through with it without getting Junmyeon's opinion first. The only people who lived on that ship were Junmyeon, Sehun, Baekhyun, and Jongin himself. Sehun and Baekhyun took turns captaining the large ship because lord knows what would happen if one of them were to fall asleep on the job, leaving everyone to plummet to their doom.

Yikes.

"It was the usual. Nothing big this time." Jongin said boredly as he sat on the couch and pulled out the diamond from his pocket and handed it to Junmyeon for appraisal. The latter's eyes went wide at the size of the rock.

"You know, in all the years we've been doing this, I still don't know how you can walk around with this huge thing like its a freaking penny." Junmyeon said as he took a seat on the opposite facing couch and studied the diamond. "With this size, it has got to be worth a lot. I mean look at this thing, it's almost the size of my fist."

"Yeah, but you have tiny hands." Jongin teased. He wiped the smile off his face once he saw his friend's glare. "Anyways, that diamond can't be worth much compared to what we have already. Give me something fun to do. Something exciting!" His eyes brightened at the thought of doing something other than the usual home pickpocketing.

The older rolled his eyes. "What, want to rob a bank? No? Too boring? How about a heist of the US Embassy? Or we could make a trip to Europe and steal the queen's crown from the Buckingham Palace? What about the Taj Mahal and all of the fine jewels that could be hidden inside. I mean come on, that place is practically made of jewels, think about what's inside. Or better yet, we could go all the way to--"

"You know," Jongin cut off his incessant rambling. "It hurts that you think my job is a joke to you. I'm not some criminal." He placed a hand over his heart and feigned offense.

Junmyeon rolled his eyes. "How can you say you're not a criminal when you come home with a giant diamond that you stole from some family?"

"You see, Junmyeon, amateurs like to go after the big stuff like a queen's crown. That's how they get caught. I, on the other hand, would steal from the less than needy. Think of it as a forced charity. Plus, I have standards. Going against such big names will only attract more attention and that's like challenging a country. Even the World's Greatest Thief has national respect for other countries and would never trifle with such a force. That's almost as evil as a Coup D'état. Too much attention is bad for a thief." Jongin stated as a matter of factly.

Junmyeon on the other hand moved his mouth open and closed in a mocking gesture. He stood up, mumbling "You talk about attracting attention when you're the one wearing bright white and gold trims." He walked towards a filing cabinet where he kept records of past missions and the profit made from each. He dug for the recent file about tonight's plan and filled in the blanks for the diamond's worth and completion time. "By the way" Junmyeon stuck the folder back into the cabinet before pulling another out. "Since you're talking about wanting to do something big but not too big, I've been saving this one for a while now." He slapped the folder down on the coffee table in front of Jongin. "This one is in our hometown, actually."

Jongin opened the folder to study the contents. There was a family picture paperclipped to the description. He studied each member carefully. As expected, there were two parents and one child.

"That family's fortune has grown a lot since we left Korea. They're the Do's. Quite famous there now, actually. They have an only child, a boy, making him the heir to their fortune. I also figured you'd want to pay our hometwon a visit after years of travelling in the sky." Junmyeon said and continued to summarize every bit of information in the document even as he read along. "I thought this would be quite the challenge for you seeing as they have high tech security and are even aware of the Phantom. I was quite surprised how serious they seemed to be when it came to robberies. It's either they always get targeted, or they are a really paranoid family."

"Just about how money do these people possess and what are their occupations?" Jongin asked when he noticed the information wasn't listed.

"That," Junmyeon continued. "is a good question, but let's not dote on trivial details. Occupation never stopped you before and your objective isn't their money. This time we're after the family heirloom. Correction: or should I say 'heirlooms' as in plural." Cue the photo of the said objects. "It's a matching set of jewelery. A headpiece, earings, necklace, plate, bangles, and anklets; even a brooch for good measure. All of which were crafted centuries ago by the Do family's ancestor and even adorn the family crest. All pieces should be stored in a small chest to match the jewelery itself."

"Hm. Interesting." Jongin smirked. "Looks like someone did their homework." He smiled up at Junmyeon when he finished reading. "Good job."

"All in a day's work." Junmyeon joked. "But seriously, like I said, I've researched this family for a while and I saved this mission for when you would have any special requests."

Jongin picked up the family photo again, eyes lingering on the son. He smirked as he covered the parents' faces with his thumb, leaving the child's face the only one visible. "This one seems like it'll be fun." He stood up and pressed the microphone on his collar again.

"Baekhyun, you awake?"

"I am now. Did you need something?" Jongin chuckled at the boy's tired voice.

"It's almost your shift to steer the ship, isn't it? Why are you still sleeping?" He teased.

"Ah, sorry. I forgot to set my alarm."

"Don't worry about it. I just have one request before you head to the cockpit." Jongin paused when he heard a snicker on the other line.

"Sorry. Cockpit is a funny word." He rolled his eyes.

"Yes, very funny, now for your orders." Jongin had to admit the word was humerous but now was the time to be professional. "We'll make a stop at one of our stations so we can refuel the engines and polish the reflector panels. After that, set a course for Seoul, South Korea."

"Seoul?! We haven't been back home in ages!"

"Yes, yes. I'll send you the coordinates right now."

"Will that be all?"

"Yes." Jongin answered before slumping back on the couch he picked up the photo again, attention focused on the boy. "Oh yeah, this is definitely going to be a fun one."

AN: Alright, if you can guess where the inspiration for this story came from, you get major brownie points. This probably isn't the best idea to start a 3rd story when my other two aren't even finished yet, but I'm warning you now. I can't balance all three stories so my focus will go back and forth between the 3. I was going to wait untill I finished the first one so I can focus on the second one and this on the side, but the idea has been killing me for like, ever. I had to make it before anyone else had the same idea lol.
