Projected Skies

It’s dark.
.
.
No light.
.
.
No noises.
.
.
Just silence.
.
.
And him and I.
Our classmates are probably in some other corner of the museum right now but he's here so I’m here. I don’t want to be elsewhere right now and I know he doesn't either, though I can’t tell why. Secretly, I wish it’s because he wants to stay by me but I digress. Maybe it’s because there’s something interesting in this dark alcove in the museum.
.
.
No light.
.
.
Silence.
.
.
And that projection of the sky on the ceiling.
We lie on our backs, side by side on this wide and soft bench. We stare upward and watch as the sky moves just like, if you were in a moving car with the top down, the blue would cruise by while trees and lampposts pass by. We’re silent, eyes riveted to puffy clouds and I get the urge to hold his hand.
I whisper, joking, “I need this projector in my life.”
He responds with “It must be expensive.”
I reply, “Probably.”
Then he says, in that light tone, “I’ll buy it just for you.”
I chuckle, knowing it would never actually happen but the thought brings me a grin.
.
.
Darkness.
.
.
Soft silence.
.
.
Just him and I..
.
.
And a moving sky above our touching hands.
---"But, until then, you have to watch the skies with me."
