- September 5, 2018 -

-- It’s the anniversary of the first day he saw her. After all this time, he still remembers everything about that day; her eyes, her smile, her long black hair, right down to that pink dress. The sorrow that had been building up over the past few months finally pushes him over the edge. I have to go to her.

Jin: Hoseok and I will go with you

JK:  It’s okay. I think I have to do this alone.

H: No! At least let us drive you. We’ll wait in the car if you want, but you’re definitely not going alone.

-- The three of them drive off. They arrive at their destination. The mere sight of the building makes his heart stop. Still, he is determined to make this journey on his own. He grabs the flowers he had prepared for her and then enters the building unaccompanied.

-- As he enters, he lingers in the lobby. Part of him wants to the leave; but the other part of him, the stronger part, pushes him to continue. He walks towards a spot inside and places the flowers in front of him. He kneels down because the pain in his chest makes even his knees grow weak. His hand reaches for the plaque just above his lowered head. He breaks down yet again as the flood of tears takes over and his fingers the words inscribed:

“In loving memory…”

- Flashback -

-- He sat on his bed while talking on the phone. He was very busy with their comeback, so they barely saw each other anymore. The few minutes they spent saying good night was all he had to get him through until the next time he could see her face; so he cherished every second of every phone call.

-- On the other end of the line, she sat in the passenger’s seat of her sister’s car. They were on their way home from a night of sisterly bonding at the mall. She would have loved nothing more than to be there for him in person, but she understood that she would have only been a distraction.

Girl: When do you think your next free day will be?

JK: I’m not sure. We have a lot of schedules this time around.

Girl: They better not be working you too hard.

JK: I can handle it. Don’t worry.

Girl: If you say so. I’ll let you get some sleep now. I know you’re really tired. Good night! I love you!

JK: I love you, too
