A Sign of Love

Cause I Do Believe..

Chapter-1: A Sign of Love

He felt bitter. His beloved at last betrayed him for the same guy who had betrayed her once. No. He couldn't blame her for sincere. He wanted to, always. But he never couldn't.

He sighed. Flashbacks and memories all appeared and popped up from his mind as drops of rain fell from heaven, sympathizing for him. Even without him knowing it himself, traces of the sweet gentle soft kisses between the two were still lingering upon his lips. He smiled like a fool, despite of having abandoned.

He was on the see-saw they used to play on, without his beloved partner of his life on the other side. The see-saw was on the ground on his side, but lifted up on the other side. He chuckled.

*Maybe everything's ought to be in this way. When you're with me together on the see-saw, you'll drop onto the group. When you're not here on the see-saw with me, you'll fly up to sky reaching your dreams. Is it, Mina? Is it why you left me? Why? W-wh-y?*

He spoke in his mind as tears streamed down his face. He wiped them off, but the tributaries of the River Eye won't ever stop flowing.

Her father's words crossed his mind, making him to shed tears even more.

"Hongki, is it? Did you speak that your name was Hongki?"

"Nae. Lee Hongki imida."

"Let's finish this short. I heard you're Mina's boyfriend. Okay. Introduce yourself."

"Nae??"

"I  S a i d   I n t r o d u c e  Y o u r s e l f."

"Ahh. Nae. My name is Lee Hongki. I'm working in Club FNC as a singer for the band named FTIsland. My parents are-ar-ar."

He couldn't find the continuation of words. The gentleman would have noticed it as he released a smirk.

"Continue."

"The-they wor-k as butchers."

"Ha. Funny."

He released an impression for underestimating him.

"You are a singer in a not-so-popular club, your parents are butchers. Still then, you aren't dreaming of being my daughter's fiancé, are you?"

"I-I."

"Appa!!! Mohae? Ohh! Hongki oppa! You're here too??!!"

"Awwn, Mina-ah. Appa's having a grand time, interviewing Hongki-sshi."

"Jinja?!! Jinja Jinja Jinja!!! Whahhh!! Nomu nomu gamsahaeyo appa!! Saranghae!!"

Mina hugged her father in delight, without knowing Hongki was suffering from her loving appa's words.

"Then, continue your talk. I'll sadly wait for Hongki-oppa from the corridor. Ngewee."

She aegyoed cutely in a very way that her father's reaction transformed whenever he was infront of her.

"Okay Okay. I'll stop the chat, okay? Okay. Now, go. Hongki-sshi, you may go too. And please remember our conversation. I hope you do."

"Nae, algaessimida."

Being a muscular matured guy, he shouldn't be crying in the middle of the playground so loudly that everyone who passed just gave him the suspicious look. He didn't care, and he'll never will. He wanted her forever, but fate and destiny must have not be that good for them to be intertwined together with each other. It was a sad miserable story, and no one would ever find sympathy for them. They would just probably mock at them, for being granting to be blessed for the "the pauper and the princess" storyline. They should have known that they couldn't be together, and therefore, to distant a border from each other's heart.

And he was back into his senses, trying to abandon his mind for her. For the last time as he mumbled, he thought of the first time when she first noticed his existence, and felt the warmth of true love and kindness.

When he came back from a gogi-delievery in the town, that was the perfect timing where he saw a girl sitting on the see-saw in a playground in the park of Blue Paradise, sobbing severely and deeply. As she paused her sobs for a numerous times, he began to see her shedding rivers of tears from her glowing eyes. He paid more attention and concentration on her, where he met her eyes, seeing her true beauty, and recognized who she was. She was Fuji Mina, the girl from the hillside slopping where he once used to send a newspaper and a magazine everyday as a part-time worker weeks ago. Since then, he was falling for her, even though knowing he was developing useless hopes in his mind. Whenever the girl came out from the door to get a grab of the fashion magazine he delievered, his heart raced pit-a-pat and his pulse increased in a maximum amount. He always wanted to talk to her closer, but he never had a chance for except the "Good Morning" phrase, and her reply always was a soft disgraceful smile.

But that one day when she saw him at the playground, she met him, not knowing he was the newsaper-ahjusshi that she trembly hated for saying "Good Morning" early in the mornings, without her having to receive a real "Good Morning." But at once he intruded her life, every "Good Morning" was more than a wish, it turned out to be a "Perfect Morning".

"Hey. Why are you crying here alone?"

"Just go. You don't even need and have to care. We don't even know each other."

She said in a mood of bitter resentment, but mumbled a few words, which were able to be heard by him.

"Even he didn't care. Then, how is it possible for a stranger who found me here in the first place will care? . That's all useless. Care."

She cried once again, abling her eyes to be disformed in a bad way, making her black mascara and eye liner melted, and all her red lips were destroyed which made her look like a vampire who had just drunk blood thirstyly, turned out conditions for her to look like a beast. He couldn't have told that to her, but he thought it would in a way helped her to end her cries. His heart suffered in pain when he spotted that he was crying for a guy in front of him. She pierced his heart painfully, but he withstood it, acting everything was fine.

"Are you a human?"

"Are you a blind?"

"I thought you were a vampire."

"Dafuq?"

"Look at yourself in the mirror, will ya?"

"Dafuq?"

"Ohh. I guess you don't have one. Here you go."

He said as he his small outdated smartphone's self camera. Once she gave it a glance, she screamed out in tremour, making the half of the neighbouringhood shaken.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! IS IT MEEEEE???????!!!!!!!!!!"

"Yea, you are. I bet cosmetics you use are really of a bad quality. Stop your cries. Or not else, it'll be making the ugly you more uglier."

"What are you talking about? This is the most expensive ones in this country. Do you think I have no reason for my precious tears?! That fu-ing betrayed me. Or not else, I would be--. be--."

Tears formed in her eyes again, making the situation worsen. He mumbled.

"OH ! Can you not? My comforts. They're terrible."

Cries got louder which made him feel more uncomfortable. He teasingly tip-toped her on her shoulders.

"Hey. I'm Sorry."

"Ahjusshi! What do you know about me? You don't know anything and you're trying to act good! You guys are all useless stupid ing trash!"

She beated him in the chest, making his muscles automatically wrapped around her coca-cola bottle shaped body.

"It's okay, girl. You can spit it all out on me. It's okay to use me either. I don't mind. You can reveal me all your sufferings. I'll gladly open my ears for you."

She looked up to glare into his eyes, which made her sobs slower. His heart was skipping beats, and her heart was too. Was that a sign of love forming between them? They did not know until she explained everything that happened between her and Jaejin.

"He left me, only leaving a short trace of message. "We're over." He didn't even mention about how sorry he was, and when I searched for him all around the areaas, it was found that he ran away after a rich wealthy pretty girl living in the States. And guess what? That girl was my best friend who left two years ago. She knew the story between us, but she didn't stop him from following her. She actually loved it, the truth to be told. She flirts a lot with guys, and all of them were trash. Except for him. I thought he wasn't one, but he was. No. IS. And WILL. I'm trying to get him away from my mind. He's a dump of . I better get him off my heart and mind and go into a new road of discovery for love, but I ended up this way. I'm really mad at myself for being like this. I'm really. Severely."

"Forget it. Forget him and her. Forget those who forget you, and get to see those who really love you. I bet there is one, and even the person standing in front of you could be one. Who'll knows? I might be secretly falling for you."

She glanced into his eyes in surprise, thinking that he was such a nice and romantic person despite from their first conversation. Well, it wasn't the first, but for her, she knew it as the first.

"I love you, Mina."

Those words came out deeply from his heart. They went through her heart for sincere. He did speak in his mind too.

"I've always loved you. And now too, I love you. And I'll forever will."

Apart from the instinct that how he knew his name, she also fell for him, out from a small chat.

"I love you too, Ahjusshi."

As he rode her to her place, he smiled in delight as his dreams were somehow coming true for a moment of time. It's okay even when she was playing with her, but for the time being, he was happier than any other else in the world.

"Can you believe how we fell in love from the first time we met? I can't, ahjusshi."

"I didn't love you from the first time we met."

With violence confusion, she eyed him in a sense of suspicion.

"I've always loved you. And now too, I love you. And I'll forever will."

"I love you too, ahjusshi. You're not my first, but I promise that you're gonna be my last."

A soft gentle kiss broke into their lips, and dragged them into their own world of paradise.

"You told me that I was going to be your last, didn't you? Now why? Why? Why did you leave me alone in the center of nowhere, but a jail in your world, and go out together with that guy who left you? Don't you know? I'm the one who really loves you. He's just playing your heart, no, playing your wealth. Please, girl. Please get into your senses possibly as fast as you can before we can rewind the time back. Each day comes with 86400 seconds, and you don't even need a small quarter of it to know how dangerous he is. Please don't do this to me. Please."

"I can't care, ahjusshi. You told me to play you, didn't you? I've played you all along. That's it. We're over. He's back for me. And I'm ready to accept him for once again. WE'RE OVER. To be honest, we didn't even actually start the relationship, did we?"

"We're Over? Now you're repeating what that guy told you off? We're over? Okay. We're over. And yes. We're really over. Don't you ever say sorry cause you don't deserve for those precious words."

A rushed paper flew and stuck onto his pale face. He sniffed for a while from the dust of the wind, while before removing it to read the paper piece. He thought it was just a paper, but it was not. It was instead a diary piece. It must have disappointed him before he started to find the combination of sad melodramatic words.

"I regretted that I left you. The desire for pain that I received within the first experience wasn't absolutely enough for me, I guess so. That must be the reason why I was blinded to have him as a choice for the second time, abandoning such a precious you alone in the middle of nowhere.

Having left by him, the first person who I really felt the meaning of love with, for the first time in my lifetime, was as painful as an ant being stumped by an elephant. It wasn't possible for me to withstand the undergoing pressure all along myself.

That was when I recognized the ahjusshi in our district who ran a delicious gogi shop near our destined house. I never noticed his existence or either paid a care, until that day when he mercilessly stabbed my heart into pieces, breaking every glass wall of my interior strength, making me fall on my knees in the centre of the silent crossroads of the night when the gogi ahjusshi cycled around professionally on his gogi-delivery bicycle.

That was where our story started, interpreting every single line of our life pages up all night, accompanying each other with several uncountable glasses of soju.

That day was to be a memorable one, where we dragged ourselves into steps of intertwine. The vines grabbing the whole me, were loosening thread by thread since the day he conquered into my life.

He was back then a miracle-like angel sent to me from god, as a gift to all my struggles in my life. But after when that him returned to my life heartlessly, thoughts were fired from my head, allowing confusion overwhelmed.

I considered every one step on where I went wrong every night, not able to sleep at nights. Sleeps I skipped were uncountable, where I dreamt of you and me together, constructing a very wonderful home with a son like ordinary pairs. But I think I was the one who made the unforgivable mistake that I can't withdraw. I regretted every words I told off. I'm really sorry, ahjusshi. I'm really sorry.

-From the heartbreaker Hong Mina"

"Regrets. Can they ever be over? She's now regretting for what she did for once again. I told you that he was going to leave you for once again and on and on. I'm Sorry. God's judgement wasn't being that good on us. I can't forgive her. I told her that deep life sentence of mine. But she broke it. I'm still breaking, loving you. But Don't worry. I'll forever be loving you until my death, and if  was a cat, I would be loving you on for 9 more lives. Not just 9 lives. Forever. I want you to know that."

"Mina-ah. Cause I do believe that you really didn't mean it.. I believe that you really loved me even if it was for a short time. I love you, Mina. Let's meet in another world. In heaven."

"Ahjusshi. Cause I do believe that you really loved me, and will love me on forever. I believe that you denied me not because the hatred towards me. I love you, Ahjusshi. Yes. Let's meet in another world where we can surf the moments and memories together without any backing up problems. And that another world. In heaven."

The next day, it was heard that the two of them had suicided. Miserable sucides. Both died at the same time, the same date, the same position and the same place. Hongki died on the southern part of the Han River, and Mina died on the northern part of the Han River. Their respective parents spreaded their evidences of dust into the atmosphere. And there was something strange again. The pixie dust must have be sprayed on them. The dust from both sides flew into the atmosphere above the River, forming a rainbow, without the rain being showered. That was the sign of their love, which would have them brought together on for the another reincarnation, hopefully wanting to create a happily ever after ending by god. God punished them in that life, but will God praise them in the another life? We don't know. Even the desired ones don't know. Except one. Only one. That was God, who would praise the good, and punish the bad.

Hello, here's your goody bag for joining my TMaF semi-contest! Thank you!

Plot: I think it's fine. Not groundbreaking awesome, but compared to your other entries, I think this is (so far) your most creative one. Perhaps because you add that little element of surprise at the end, making it more than a mere angst heartbroken story. There will be caveat in that, but we'll get to that later.

An issue that I think you can fix, is the plot's flow. I don't mind plot twist, definitely. But I think some parts of your story are a bit... jumpy. While I do understand at some points you made reference to flashback and all, but there are times when I just feel like I'm lost in your story. This might be a personal preference, so I won't dwell deep in that part. What I also would like to comment is how people just... fall in love way too fast in your fanfiction. I can understand Hongki's love more –because it's more like he's been watching her for quite some time. I still have problem on how he confessed that fast, though. Perhaps, it's more in stylistic approach. I certainly have seen fic where the character confessed to the other equally as quick, but the dialogues and everything in that fic was kind of natural and realistic, so I did not exactly have issues on the quick-confession. Mina, however, I think still falls in love too fast. Even when it is stated that it's a love at first sight or something, there still has to be more elaboration and rationales to make everything a bit more believable.

Secondly, while I'm glad that there is an element of surprise at the end of the story, again, I still feel like there are not sufficient rationales and motives behind that. It's like... the kind of plot twist that certainly wakes a reader up, but does not leave the reader to completely understand. My guess would be that there is not enough angst to actually drive one to commit suicide. I understand that their love has obstacles, but it's not to the extent that it would justify them to commit suicide. Both your characters also seem sane enough, and do not exactly seem like one that would commit suicide. I think the element of believability is what kind of disrupt the plot in general.

Characters: First of all, I salute you for writing a character that is not exactly most-loved –and no, this is not an insult. Character's flaw is actually something that I always look in a story's character, so I am actually glad that you characterize Mina the way she is characterized here. There's something more than just the goody-girl, something sinister –and despite the poor fate that she made Hongki felt. There is a difference though –in terms of Mina's characterization's maturity. Similar to the plot section, I think you do not give enough background on how she could just act that way. Sure, what she did might be done by any other women in this world, but there is this...inconsistency about her. In the end, it drives me to believe that she does not exactly love Hongki –but if that's the case, why did she commit suicide? There are these confusions about her character.

I don't have a lot of comment about Hongki –because aside from him being a very patient and well, love-blinded guy, he's quite bland as himself. There's only dynamic in his character when Mina is involved. Well, on one hand, at least you're making a character dynamic, but on the other hand, there should be more to his growth as a character aside from how Mina influenced him.

Style: Well, the good news is, I think so far, among your entries, your writing style here is quite an improvement. There are sufficient description, and some of the words are composed in an engaging manner –making a quirk of your own writing style. I do have issues (don't mind me, I always have issues, hehehe) with the dialogues –because some are not drafted in a mature sense. It's as if they're not the adults they should have been. Another issue that I detect from this fic is that you replace their names with pronouns too much –most times, I think it confuses reader as to the who is the 'he' that you're actually talking about. Refer them as "Mina" and "Hongki" more often –but not that much to the point that it would get redundant. I also think that the love lines could have been drafted more...romantically? Like there are blatant "I love you" in the fic, but the romantic sense it should have caused do not exactly get crossed to the readers.

Suggestion:
• Be careful on the choppy plot. Always, always, have reasoning behind your plot –even when your plot has an element of surprise.
• Especially in this kind of 'real-life' fic, where element of exaggeration is not exactly that required, and on the contrary, the element of believability is a definite must, always ask yourself the question whether this scene would be likely, whether this character would actually do things like this, etc. In short, maintain the 'real'-ness of the story.
• Practice on the dialogue-composing. While metaphors and all the flowery words may come out in the narrative text, dialogue, again, should stay as close as they could be to the way that people normally converse. This is especially in this kind of fanfiction.

Favorite Parts:
• I love your foreword saying "from the heartbreaker Hong Mina." There is something inviting about it –it also tells quite something about Mina –which is good. Maintain this kind of approach (when appropriate), it effectively not only intrigues readers, but also gives a sense of who Mina as a character is.
• "You told me to play you, didn't you? I've played you all along." I love this. Mina is acknowledging her own character's flaw, yet at the same time there's something rather sad about her statement too. So, I like it.
• Overall, I think you have improvements in comparison to your previous entries. So, that's a good job! ^^
