Troubled mind.

Description

My first ever one-shot and my first ever trying such a theme. This is the story I am entering for the contest Adversus. and I participated in it for the sole reason of trying something different with my writing style and improving it. I'm so thankful to the contest holders for letting me try something completely different than what I have ever written by making this contest.

Do check it out and tell me how my first ever one-shot came out to be. :D

The prompt I used is , "We stop checking for monsters under the bed when we realize they're inside of us."

And please do comment on how it was since I'm quite nervous about the way it turned out to be. Love you all^^ ♡♥

Foreword

Brain.

The numerous definitions we come across revolve only around one thing; the organ of the body in the head that controls functions, movements, sensations, and thoughts.

Now what about mind?

The human consciousness that originates in the brain and is manifested especially in thought, perception, emotion, will, memory, and imagination.

That is what its definition is.

But then, what about a troubled personality? Is it the brain that is at fault or is it the mind?

Brain is the organ of the body which processes our thoughts and creates reasoning, while mind is the consciousness of having a particular thought. The mind is controlled by the brain.

Someone had said this to me earlier just to simplify it for me when I had asked.

So, is it the brain at fault?

What if the brain is perfectly normal but the mind is the one responsible?

Science and common sense always will continue having this battle; that is the case to me at least.

Hence, I decided to take a step and solve the mystery for my own sake or else I would have become a patient of this phenomenon myself.

And what better than treating those suffering from it?

But now I am starting to rethink of my decision I had taken years back.

And the cause is none other than my own latest patient; Lee Sungmin.

My name is Doctor Cho Kyuhyun and I’m a Psychiatrist.

………………………………………………………………….

“We stop checking for monsters under the bed when we realize they're inside of us.”

That particular line is stuck in my mind ever since my psychology teacher quoted it in one of the many classes.

I was once someone who was too scared of monsters I had read about in fairytales and seen in the numerous fantasy movies as a child. Every night, I asked either of my parents to stay by my side and sleep with me because the mere idea of a monster popping from under my pink bed had caused me to wet my bed for numerous nights.

The fright was so strong that I even decided to give up on my favorite stuffed toy that had accidently been thrown under my bed by one of the kids who had showed up when I was a mere twelve year old boy.

The fear of coming face to face with a monster the moment I raise the long sheet from below had successfully made me stick to my decision to abandon the toy despite having to cry for countless number of nights at the loss of it.

I still haven’t seen that toy to date.

But after my parents turned their backs on me; finding the infidelities they had committed against each other over the years of me growing up; I realized how right that quote from my teacher was.

And that is how I finally found that monster I was so scared to encounter…

Within me…

My name is Lee Sungmin and I’m a monster the people are now scared to encounter.

Chapter 1: How do I even comment on something so darn unique and different from everything else I've read so far? I may not know much, but I can sure as hell say that you totally nailed it. It could not have been any better. Every second of reading this was brilliant. Bravo! When Sungmin mentioned that he wasn't real, I was amazed. Just.... WOW!! With such great talent and creativity you can publish best sellers. What are you even doing at a fanfic site?
