Foreword
Prologue
~
On rainy days, you come to find me, torturing me through the night...
~
Kevin hated that they said what he had done was for revenge. He hated that it was lies, all lies.
"Kevin." he looked up, through the glass window, at the man who was his best friend. Correction. His EX-best friend. He tilted his head, a sign for him to continue. "Kevin... Why?"
He turned away. Just as he' d thought, he was right. No one ever understood him. Not even his closest friend.
"I had to do it."
"Why did you have to do it? Please, tell me." Kevin searched his face, but all he saw was disappointment, sadness. Fear.
"You won't understand." Sharp clipped words, as Kevin stared at his cuffed hands, the cold metal table. Anywhere but him.
"I will! I've always understood you..." A pause, a pregnant silence. "Please. I'm doing this because I love you."
Kevin froze at the last three words.
How many times had he heard them? How many times had they been spoken as a lie?
"No. No, you don't." he stood up abruptly, ending the conversation.
He'd been fooled too many times before, it wouldn't happen again.
