Foreword

It was dull and grey, the fluorescent lights lacked colour, the cement walls and floors made everything echo, yet there was a stiff silence as men in orange jumpers filed out into the courtyard. Ironically, the courtyard was still indoors, the ceilings rising high, windows barred, cameras placed high up in every corner, officers and specified agents carefully monitoring them inside a little room, overlooking the courtyard. However, there was one man who shuffled inside the courtyard, his expression blank but his eyes were hard. He walked slowly around the perimeter of the courtyard, seemingly just casually strolling and stretching his legs.

However, as he made his second round, he began to anticipate his next move. He had practically memorized every aspect of the room, not to mention the various timings of the guards, when they will change, and who will be the next on duty. He knew that the cameras, though placed strategically at every corner, could not rotate 360-degrees, therefore each had a blind spot. He also knew that it was imperative that everything moved quickly, as the changing of the guards in both the observation room as well as on the outside would only take a matter of a few minutes.

Despite his calm facade, inside his heart raced as he reached one corner of the courtyard - seemingly out in the open, but actually the blind spot of both the cameras and the observation room. Quickly ping his jumper, he pulled out a rope made of bed sheets that he had been secretly tying together over the course of three months, the same time it took him to formulate this plan. He then looked up at the high window, and then quietly slinked over to the other side of the room, where a mop lay. It had been there ever since he began planning, and therefore he incorporated it into the bigger plan. He quickly disassembled it, leaving only the long wooden stick and a small circular hoop. This time jogging back to where the rope lay, he tied it through the hoop and reached up towards the window and blindly found something to hook it on.

He tugged on it to make sure it was secure and finally grabbed hold of the rope. It was then that he felt a hand on his shoulder, and he felt his insides drop. Slowly turning, he prepared himself, but was surprised to see another inmate instead.

"You will get caught, you know." The man's grip on the rope tightened and he looked at the inmate in the eye.

"Say nothing and a hassle between everyone here and the agents will be avoided. As well, I don't plan on going down alone. I have business left for me to attend to, and I must see to it that it goes through." The inmate stared at him for a few more seconds and the man was slowly growing impatient, knowing full well that he now only had less than a minute to make an escape. At last, the inmate released him and let him continue his climb up.

It was hard and his body ached, but he had finally reached through the windows, managing to unscrew the bars. He was now fighting past the barbed wires, and running blindly through the streets.

It was about time that the alert was sounded, and he knew that meant all known secret service organizations around the world would be notified of his escape. But he wasn't the least bit unnerved, as he triumphantly trudged down a familiar alleyway, where he stopped at a door with the image of two snakes wrapped around a sword was embellished. He opened it easily and found himself in a room of rather buff looking men. Smiling down upon their looks of shock, he closed the door behind him and addressed them all, malice and the thirst for vengeance seeping into his words.

"It's good to be back boys, and now we get down to business."
