4. Maddy

7 hours from home, next door to heart (in the process of editing)

Kyu Yang was very talkative to Hyung Jun as they drove from the airport to the apartment. Since he'd been there last Hyung Jun found that a lot of the scenery, shops and restaurants had changed. Time really had flown since he was there last.

“See that building up there?” Kyu Yang gestured to a blue and white block overlooking the beach. “That is where you will be staying.”

“It looks nice,” Hyung Jun was relieved he could speak to him in their native language.

“Yes, everything has been sorted out for you so no need to worry.” Hyung Jun nodded. However when he thought about it, something about this made him confused. They drove up to the front where Kyu Yang helped him with his suitcase. He felt he didn't need a hand but Kyu Yang insisted, hence he let him. They got into a lift, rode to the third floor and went to the doors on the further end.

“You have number twenty three,” Kyu Yang told him, pushing the handle down on the suitcase. “Everything you two will need should be there Let me show you… Umm…” He fumbled in his pockets for a moment. “I seem to have left the key in the car. Wait here for a moment,” Kyu Yang bowed to Hyung Jun and went back to the lift. He soon disappeared behind the steel doors.

***

The minutes ticked by, with no sign of Kyu Yang. Though this worried Hyung Jun he refused to think badly of the man. Kyu Yang seemed to be the last person who would be a conman or a trickster. While he waited he took his phone out and dialed his dongsaeng’s number. There was a strange beep.

“The number you have dialed is invalid, please check and try again.” Hyung Jun hung up and tried Kibum’s manager’s number.

“The number you have dialed is invalid, please check and try again.” Something wasn’t right. He tried his own manager.

“The number you have…” He hung up, clenching the phone in his fist. He raised it up in the air about to throw it onto the floor.

“Umm I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” He stopped in mid motion, turning to where the voice was coming from. A blonde girl was standing there, watching him with puzzlement. Her blonde hair was down, parted at the side, big blue eyes giving her the appearance like a doll. Her clothes were a pink blouse, a white skirt that went up to her knees and a brown shoulder bag. She was in cream heels with a strap that went over the top of the foot. Hyung Jun blinked and regained his thought train.

He had to speak to her, his English would be interesting. (Just a note when he is speaking English he will use Korean terms still by mistake so that’s a way of determining whether it’s Korean or English or Konglish)

“Would I why not?” He cringed.  The girl looked at him confused.

“Um because mobile phones aren’t cheap."

“Oh, ok,” he didn’t have any trouble with that. She walked  towards him but stopped at the door opposite. Number twenty two.

“You don’t look familiar,” she said. “Are you new to the place?”

“Neh… Yes,” he nodded, “I am new.” Keeping the sentences short would help prevent any more of the previous mistakes.

“Ah ok, well welcome,” she said holding out a hand for him to shake, “I am Maddy Taylor and you are?”

“I am Hyung Jun,” she lowered her eye brows.

“Did you say hung?”

“No it is Hyung,” He pronounced it again a bit slower that time.

“Oh ok, that sounds Chinese. Are you Chinese?” Oh the irony of it.

He shook his head. “Korean I am,” Oops he’d managed to mix that up too.

“Ah Korean ok, wow that is interesting. We have a few other Asians living here but none of them are friendly like you,” she grinned. “However their English is slightly better.” Hyung Jun bowed his head slightly, colour flushing into his cheeks.

“Will you be alright getting in?” She asked, “do you have a key?”

“My friend went to get it. He won’t be long.” Maddy nodded.

“Ok then," she unlocked her apartment door. “well I live just here so if you ever need anything come on over.”

“Thank you,” Hyung Jun bowed to her.

“Please, don’t worry about doing that,” she waved with both hands as she opened the door.

Hyung Jun had forgotten that Australians were more relaxed. "But we met just." She smiled again.

“It’s ok, I really don’t mind.”

***

Five minutes later Kyu Yang emerged. The key in his hand. “Here you are sir,  enjoy your stay; everything is already in there for you.”

“Thank you."

“I will be taking you to where you need to go, but you should have my number already.” Hyung Jun gave him a funny look but before he could ask, Kyu Yang made his leave. With the key in his hand, Hyung Jun twisted it in the lock and managed to open the door.

I'm going to edit this story at some point. Just the grammar and vocab because it's horrible.
