“People that are meant to be together, always find each other in the end.”

The brunette walked aimlessly through the busy streets of Seoul, she didn’t know where to go or what to do, she just wanted to walk and enjoy the warm rays the sun was emitting and the cool summer breeze that was brushing against her skin. It was indeed a beautiful morning and what made it even more enticing is the fact that she had the day off, meaning no work and no annoying boss carefully scrutinizing every little thing she did. She was free for today at least, and although she usually prefers sleeping till late and spending her entire day in the comfort of her welcoming bed with a warm cup of green tea by her side reading her latest revelation, an intriguing novel written by Brad Meltzer called the Book Of Lies; Yes the bookworm within her never ceased to exist. But today out of all days she felt as if a change was in order, so she decided not to let this beautiful morning go to waste and thus, she went out for a walk.

As she kept on walking, swiftly glancing at the passerby’s.  She noticed parents taking their kids, who were quite eager, to school.  Some people were heading towards their working places; others were just like her, quietly enjoying the nice weather. She saw couples walking around having bright smiles plastered on their faces and she couldn’t help but feel a little bit jealous of their happiness, of their love, which made her wonder if things would have been different if she was just a little more courageous.

Soohyun took a deep breath as she resumed her walk but stopped in her tracks moments later; a small smile made its way onto her lips. Ironically, her feet led her to her old high school.

Kids were hurriedly trying to get to their classes before the bell rang and she couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight, which slightly reminded her of herself, since she would always wake up rather late and would be forced to sprint towards school in order to avoid being tardy, and in order to avoid getting detention. While others were walking leisurely with no care in the world, which made her recall a certain someone, who would walk ever so calmly to his class, while giving off a cool and mysterious vibe that made the girls swoon and gaze at him in adoration and love.

Soohyun sighed.

After all of those years, that man still managed to make his way into her thoughts, into her mind.

Maybe he didn’t leave in the first place. Maybe she would occasionally wonder about him, wonder about the way he was living, the way he turned out to be.

Was he still as handsome as she remembered?

Was he still that cool and collected guy that managed to make all of those hearts, including hers, flutter?

Was he still the same old Kim Myungsoo, the man who owned her heart, and sadly still does, the man she had the biggest crush on?

Soohyun bit her lip, a habit she does whenever she’s deep in thought, she turned around, leaving all those bitter and sweet memories behind and decided to pay a visit to the old park she used to frequent when she was young.

As she spoke those words a light smile graced her features, she closed her eyes enjoying the sound of the chirping birds and the smooth brushing of the leaves, a serene and calm feeling engulfed her entire being, she spotted a lonely bench up ahead and slowly made her way towards it.

As she sat down, she looked around and spotted little kids playing with each other, laughing and having fun and she couldn’t help but smile, she just hoped that their innocence would remain intact as they venture into this cruel and corrupted world.

Soohyun let out a deep breath; she looked down at her lap, quietly playing with the strap of her bag, silently thinking about her own life. See, things didn’t quite turn out the way she had imagined them to be, after High School she thought that she would keep in touch with her friends, and she did for a small amount of time, but all of them were busy with their studies (she included) and were struggling with their internships, their exams and their part time jobs.

When she finally graduated two years ago and finally got her degree in journalism, a field she was always keen on, she thought that she would easily find a job and establish herself as world renowned journalist. But things weren’t as easy as they seemed, it was hard for her to find her dream job, she wanted to be a reporter for the “Korea Times” and you would think with her neat and outstanding resume that she would get the job, but she didn’t, someone had already snatched it away from her.

 After struggling for over a year with unemployment she decided to take up the only job that was available, and that’s how she ended up writing wedding announcements on the society page of a not so well known newspaper.
