Ignorance is a Bliss

Eternal Valor

The steel, heavy chains gripped around his pale wrists tightly to keep his hazardous blaze restraint. He clenched his jaw tightly but kept his eyes shut while he listened intently to what was happening outside the small room with his one cell. He was far away from home, but even with the distance he was strong enough to handle the differences in Haven. His ears nearly twitched when he heard footsteps approaching softly, as if the spies were forcing themselves to keep quiet.

“Is he really dangerous?” Donghae whispered while placing his hands on the wall, lifting himself up on his toes while trying to steal a glance through the peephole on the door. “He doesn’t look dangerous.” He mumbles quietly-quickly making Hyukjae’s heart incite with irritation. Obviously the kid doesn’t know who I am and what I can do to him… He thought with a small smirk that spread across his plump lips.

“Donghae…he’s the prodigy of Hades…” SungMin’s eyes were as wide as marbles from fear, “Look, he doesn’t have horns; the symbol of the chosen one.” He stared at Donghae after peeking inside of the small room. “Like you don’t have your halo, he doesn’t have his horns…” he whispers softly and waits for Donghae to comment on anything, but the latter was too busy staring at the Demon from the peep hole with wide eyes. A small blush formed on his pale cheeks when he realized what he was thinking about.

“Isn’t he too cute to be a Demon?” Donghae mumbled quietly, “I thought all demons were supposed to be hideous, deformed inside and out with enough fire inside their soul to burn down anyone who looked their way…” he frowned, “At least that’s what daddy told me.” He shrugged and turned to stare at SungMin with a small pout, “I don’t want to be the prodigy…I’m not strong enough to handle so much responsibility SungMin. You should have been the prodigy of Haven, you would have been so much better than me.”

Hyukjae was trying to ignore the wrath that was building inside of him from being chained up for so long. He yearned for the warm, hazardous flames to be released from his wrists and burn everything around him; including the Angels outside of the small room. He tightened his jaw line and shut his eyes tighter while trying to concentrate on his surroundings by relying on his hearing. He could only hear soft murmurs in the farthest room and he figured it was the leader who was speaking.

“Why do you think he’s here…” Donghae asked while peeking inside the peephole and staring at Hyukjae’s still figure; his heart was pounding in his chest out of fear. He was looking at his lifelong enemy and by the way Hyukjae’s biceps looked he knew he was much stronger than he was.

Sungmin rolled his eyes, “He obviously came to have a tea party with the Angel prodigy. I mean, it’s not like he has to kill you to become the most powerful creature.” He scoffed and then stared at Donghae like he was stupid, but he quickly smiles when Donghae flashes a sweet smile.

“Do you think he knows who I am?” Donghae gulped dryly, feeling his knees shaking just by the thought of having to go against the man inside. “He doesn’t really look that scary, but I have no doubt in my mind that he can kill me without even breaking a sweat!”

“I say we kill him.” SungMin’s eyes brighten up while Donghae’s jaw drops; he stared at him in disbelief, “Why not? He’s the enemy isn’t he? It would be better if we just sent an army down to Hades and annihilate every single Demon.”

Donghae shook his head while staring at his brother, “Never mind. Thank goodness you’re not the prodigy or else you would cause a war against the two worlds.”

“Oh don’t tell me you want him to live-”

“I don’t want anyone to die!” Donghae pouted and shook his head quickly, “Why can’t we all get along and figure out a way to work together instead of holding onto this vindictive hatred?”

SungMin exhaled and turned to look at Hyukjae but he quickly froze, “He’s gone.” His voice broke and both him and Donghae exchanged glances and then looked around their surroundings. “Where could he be?!”

They both ran down the long hallway and down the stairs until they reached the living room where their father, Leeteuk, and a few other angels were gathered; they were discussing what to do about their intruder. “APPA HE’S GONE!” Donghae stopped shortly, a few feet in front of them while SungMin ran towards the rest of them to tell them to search for the Demon.

Donghae was breathing heavily, his heart beating fast while he felt his feet suddenly growing hot; he looked down and cried out when he sees strings of flames wrapping around his legs. The hot fire circled around him and soon he felt a hand wrap around his mouth while the other wrapped around his waist. Donghae screamed through his throat while he tried to escape the elder’s grasp.

“Let him go!” Leeteuk screamed while staring at Hyukjae with cold eyes. “Donghae, remember that water is his weakness!” he stared at his son while Donghae looked over and shivered when his light brown eyes met Hyukjae’s dark ones.

“Donghae, kill him!” SungMin cried out, hoping that Hyukjae would let go of him but the elder only held him tighter and the flames grew hazardous all around them, burning everything it came to contact with-except Donghae.

“All I want is one granted access to the human world, and that’s it. I’ll leave your family alone once I get that simple request-” Hyukjae spoke, his deep voice made Donghae very still.

            “No.” Leeteuk said simply.

“So be it.” Hyukjae’s eyes turned pitch black while he squeezed his hand around Donghae’s mouth and they disappeared; he was teleporting them back to Hades, but Donghae was struggling and trying to teleport them somewhere in Haven. He tried to pull Hyukjae’s hand away from him mouth and he forced himself to concentrate; water quickly surrounded them and both elements fought roughly against one another for dominance. There was a deep glow before both elements vanished and the two prodigies fell from the sky and straight down to the light green grass, but they were hidden in between abundant trees.

Hyukjae stared at his bloody hands and shook his head slowly while watching Donghae slowly stand up, “I didn’t imagine the Angels to be so selfish considering the fact that they have to be altruistic and benevolent since birth.” He slowly stood and stared at Donghae with dark eyes, “That explains the missing halo.” He murmured while Donghae gasped and puffed his cheeks soon after.

“What is that supposed to mean? The reason I don’t have a halo is because I have an amiable heart, and I glow inside…as in I’m special, I guess,” he shrugged and raised a brow, “And why don’t you have horns? I thought the bigger the horn the bigger the power.” He almost teased but Hyukjae only stared at him with an irritated expression.

“It’s so I can blend in,” he answered simply, “You said it yourself…I don’t look anything like a demon because I’m meant to fool everyone around me. I can even blend with the humans…” he shrugged and smiled sadly, “You look pretty human to me.” He smirked.

Donghae rolled his eyes, “Is that supposed to insult me?!” he frowned and looked down at the dripping blood on Hyukjae’s hand, “Did I really hurt you that much?” he didn’t think he used that much power against him, and he suddenly began to feel guilty.

“Water is my weakness, any amount is enough to wound me fatally, but unlike the other Demons I’ll recover much faster, so don’t worry about me.” He spoke harshly and continued to eye Donghae with a cold expression, but the latter only sighed and took a step closer to him. Hyukjae backed away, “keep your distance butterfly, I don’t wanna catch the pure.” He smirked while Donghae only rolled his eyes and approached him anyway.

“If I’m a butterfly then you’re a moth, and calm down hornless Demon, I’m only trying to cure you. I’m an Angel, that’s what I do.” He grabbed Hyukjae’s hand and focused on the bleeding wounds first. He ran his other hand through them and a bit of water slipped out of his finger tips and the water dripped into the wounds. Hyukjae felt suddenly weary but he remained silent and watched his wounds close completely. “There.” Donghae releases his hand and smiles proudly, “What’s your name?” he asked with a sweet smile; Hyukjae avoided the latter’s eyes and hesitated for a while.

“Hyukjae.”

“I’m Donghae.” He replied with a small smile and then cleared his throat shortly after, “Now, are you going to tell me what your problem is?” He quickly looked around, “By the way, where are we?”

“We’re still in Haven. Can’t you tell by the green grass, trees and bright sun?” he quickly sat down in hopes that his head would stop spinning, “I know Demons are forbidden to be granted a second life on Earth, but I am only asking for one exception.” He didn’t look at Donghae as he spoke, “My brother has fallen terribly ill, and there’s just no way to save him anymore. He grows fatally weaker as the days go by…and I just want his soul to rest once he’s gone.” He looked over and met Donghae’s eyes, “I know we’re seen as monsters, but I didn’t exactly get to choose who I wanted to be.”

Donghae chewed on his lower lip and exhaled deeply without giving it too much thought because he knew which one was the right choice, “Ok.” He nodded once, “Take me to your brother.”

Hyukjae just stared at him, and waited for him to run away and leave him hopeless once again, but when Dongahe didn’t budge Hyukjae slowly stood up, “You’re serious?” he was completely confused, and shocked by the way Donghae didn’t hesitate to help KyuHyun. He watched him with curious eyes while Donghae quickly nodded, took his hand and they quickly disappeared from planet Haven and landed in the abyss of Hades.

Donghae looked around and unconsciously stood close to Hyukjae because he was afraid of darkness. “N-Nice home.” Donghae commented with a polite smile as he looked around for a tree, but all he saw was dirt.

“Thanks.” Hyukjae smirked, grabbed him by his wrist and dragged him towards the black Mansion. Hidden demons were watching them with wide eyes and Donghae almost screamed when he noticed one; he was small, had yellow eyes and huge horns that stuck out from the top of his head. “Don’t worry, they won’t hurt you as long as you’re with me, so I suggest you don’t run away once we’re inside.” Hyukjae whispers and leads him inside the Mansion, “KyuHyun is in his room,” he pulled Donghae up the stairs and they went into the first room.

Donghae made his way beside the bed, and he stared at the demon who was whimpering softly, breathing harshly and was drenched in sweat. “Hi.” He spoke sweetly and placed his cold hand on KyuHyun’s “Don’t worry, the pain won’t last long.” He smiled sadly and watched KyuHyun slowly open his black eyes and stare at him.

“What exactly happens?” Hyukjae inquired out of curiosity.

“I have to concentrate on his soul and force it to release from his body…once that happens it’ll travel to Earth.” Donghae placed his hand on KyuHyun’s chest, above his heart, and squeezed it a bit.

“And what happens to you?” Hyukjae stared at him, completely mesmerized by the nearly glowing creature before him. He’s never seen so much light in someone before, and even when Donghae was surrounded by darkness he still kept the small smile.

“An angel cannot allow a demon to go to Earth for fear that he’ll become a murderer or something horrible…so I have to sacrifice myself in order for his soul to go in peace.” He spoke calmly and focused on the heart beat of the Demon.

“And you’re ok with sacrificing your own life for his? A demon…you can’t be serious.” He refused to believe that Donghae could be so selfless; especially to a species that wasn’t suppose to matter. Well…this will be to my advantage. I won’t have to get my hands dirty if the idiot is so willing to die.

“I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I didn’t.” He stared into KyuHyun’s eyes and felt their hearts beating in sync and Donghae felt himself becoming deathly weak as he concentrated on KyuHyun’s soul; he had to hold onto KyuHyun or else he would collapse.

Hyukjae watched him grow weaker and he couldn’t help but smile as he watched Donghae almost collapse on KyuHyun. His smile quickly faded when a light spark flashes into the room and lands on Donghae’s hands. He quickly yanks his hands away from KyuHyun’s chest and cries, “OW!” while he stared at his red hands and looked over to the side. Heechul, the leader of the Demons, was standing at the doorway, so Donghae quickly hid behind Hyukjae when he sees him make his way inside the room. Everything was becoming blurry for Donghae, the walls seemed to be moving so before he could say anything he fell to the floor unconscious.

Heechul stared at Hyukjae with a menacing glare, “What is he doing here and why have you let him inside KyuHyun’s room?”

“The idiot was willing to die to save KyuHyun, so I see it as a win-win situation. The prodigy would have been dead by now and Hades would have proven victorious for another century, so why are you so pissed off?” he glared into his father’s yellow eyes.

“If his father found out what the idiot was about to do then the rest of us would have to suffer for it. If you want to make this easier then why don’t you just trick him like the last prodigy did, but for now get rid of him; he stinks of nobility.” He disappeared quickly and Hyukjae looked down and stared at Donghae while he slept peacefully. He threw him over his shoulder and they disappeared from Hades and landed somewhere hidden in Haven; he gently sets the Angel down on the grass and smiles to himself.

“It’s going to be so easy to trick you,” he whispered while glaring at Donghae’s still figure. He sits beside him and smiles to himself, “What would a friend do in a situation like this?” he reached forward, took Donghae’s hand and cupped it between his. He focused on giving him warmth and waited impatiently for the Angel to wake up.

Donghae groaned in his sleep, slowly opened his eyes and met Hyukjae’s stare, “I’m sorry.” He whispered softly when he realized that he was still alive, and that Hyukjae’s brother was getting closer to death. “I was so close too, I could feel his soul rising…but then everything was cut off-”

“It’s fine.” Hyukjae helps him sit up and Donghae smiled warmly at him, “I really appreciate your interest, but it’s too late for KyuHyun. It’s too late for any of us for being what we are-the Devil’s Spawn.” He whispered bitterly but then managed a forced smile while staring at the grass slowly moving due to the wind, “Do all Angels get granted access to Earth after death?” I should get information from him before getting rid of him.

Donghae moved closer to Hyukjae and smiled a bit before shaking his head, “No, we don’t. Only a few are granted a second life; you either have to be excessively benevolent, or you have to sacrifice your life for the greater good.”

Hyukjae looks to the side and whispers, “I should probably kill you…”

He only nodded slowly, “You probably should, I mean, after all our hatred has been inherited from generations to generations, but…” he smiled widely, “I don’t hate you. I don’t hate anyone actually because I know there’s good in everyone-even you.” He smiled gently while Hyukjae rolled his eyes and shook his head. “I think so,” Donghae added.

“You don’t know me very well. I’m an abominable creature that causes nothing but fear, so I don’t have any bit of goodness in me. Didn’t your father teach you that?” he stared at Donghae with no expression, “Didn’t he teach you to show us no mercy because we’re vile and odious since birth.”

“But I know you’re not.” Donghae said quickly, “Because if you were then you wouldn’t have cared so much for your brother….and I would’ve already been dead if you were as wicked as they say you are. I think everyone is just confused. Instead of assuming the worst, they should get to know the Demons personally.” Donghae smiled sweetly.

“Have you always been so…” Hyukjae cracked a smile when he noticed the way Donghae’s light brown eyes shone in the sunlight, “naïve.” He nearly forgot what he was talking about as Donghae stared into his eyes, but he forced himself to look away.

Donghae blinked, and quickly looked down, “I-I should get going before Leeteuk worries too much and sends a whole army to Hades.” He stood and smiled sweetly at Hyukjae, “Will I see you again?”

Hyukjae smiles sweetly to mask the wicked smirk yearning to be shown, “Can I see you again? Or do I scare you?” he smirks while Donghae only laughs cutely, “If you don’t mind me saying…I would really love to see you once again. If you want I can come visit you and we can hide between all these trees. No one will see us this way so you won’t get into any trouble with your cherubs.” He paused, “I would really like to be your friend, Donghae.” He spoke softly, being careful with the way he spoke to reel the Angel into his trap.

There was something about Hyukjae that Donghae couldn’t help but be attracted too; he really liked the elder for some unexplainable reason. “Ok.” He spoke softly, “I’ll see tomorrow around this time?” he beams when Hyukjae quickly agrees, “Until then.” He bows and slowly walks off towards the Mansion with a huge smile on his face.

Hyukjae stayed still for a while longer and then teleported back to Hades. He walked into the black Mansion and wasn’t surprised that Heechul was waiting for him. “What happened?” Heechul watched him with curious eyes, “Are you really going through with the plan?”

Hyukjae nodded, “Of course. I’ll trick him like the last prodigy did…and soon enough his corpse will be buried deep within Hades.” He said with no emotion and then remained silent while he pictured the Angel’s light brown eyes, “I won’t fail you.” He whispered feeling strange. “I want to do more damage than what the last Demon did. I know I can kill him so easily because his mind is so weak, but I want this to be fair. In order to have a satisfying victory, I need to make it fair.”

Heechul frowned but shrugged lightly, “Just make sure to kill him slowly when the time comes.” He smirked.

Donghae was being interrogated by his family, but he remained quiet with a small smile, “He didn’t hurt me, Appa. He’s actually really kind, and if you just gave him a chance you could see that everyone has good in them-”

“Donghae, don’t do this.” SungMin stared at him with wide eyes, “The last prodigy thought the same thing and he ended up dead!”

Leeteuk sighed and gently took Donghae’s hands into his, “Son, its true. The last prodigies became friends as well, but it was all a lie created by the Demon. He tricked the Angel and ended up killing him without any mercy. I know you’re too kind for your own good Donghae, but please don’t be naïve.”

Donghae smiled sweetly, “Don’t worry about me. Whatever happens…happens for a reason.” He leaned in and pecked Leeteuk’s head and said, “Good night,” before walking off to his room. He smiled to himself and entwined his hands together while remembering Hyukjae’s hands on his, “I’ll prove you wrong.” He whispered with a soft smile.

Chapter 5: It would have been so much better if you wrote them to be reincarnated as Super Junior Eunhyuk & Donghae. But, this works too~ It's so cute that they get reincarnated and get to have the human dream jobs~
