Hey guys, so here's the final chapter. Hope it's not bad because, well, I've obviously never been proposed to before. :P But I hope it's enjoyable and not confusing. Hehe... So enjoy...

25-year-old Hyukjae was watching his lover, Donghae sleep. He caressed his face gently and placed a light peck on his head. It might seem creepy to most people – watching your lover sleep, but Hyukjae didn’t care. He loved the man in arms more than anything and wouldn’t trade this moment for anything in the world.

He never did understand why Donghae always doubted himself. Donghae was the absolute definition of perfect to Hyukjae. Before meeting Donghae, Hyukjae was convinced that nobody was perfect. Because even at the young age of 5 at that time, Hyukjae had known that his family wasn’t perfect.

His dad was a drunk that would beat his mom and shout profanities at her. The only reason he didn’t get hit was because his mom would hide him away before his father returned home. One day, however, his father had come home in the middle of the day unannounced and therefore his mom couldn’t hide Hyukjae in time. His father had slapped his mom so hard that she fell over and knocked her head on the nearby shelf.

Hyukjae, being the young boy that loved his mom so much, wanted to help, but only resulted in him getting thrown across the room as if he didn’t weigh more than a pillow. His father had shouted at his own wife, saying that Hyukjae wasn’t his son and that he didn’t want to live with a woman who couldn’t be loyal to him. He continued to hit Hyukjae since he thought that Hyukjae wasn’t his son. Hyukjae kept calling out for his mom until she finally woke up and saw what the monster she called her husband was doing. She couldn’t take it anymore and ran out of the house to get help from her neighbours.

In the end, her husband was arrested and put away and Hyukjae moved away with his mom because she thought they needed a new start. That was when he had met Donghae.

At first, he was very protective towards the younger because Donghae was so weak. He couldn’t talk and many of the people they meet never understand him. Hyukjae took it upon himself to become Donghae’s voice, protector and friend. He took care of Donghae through school and made sure nobody picked on him. Through school, Hyukjae and Donghae also met new people and made new friends such as Kyuhyun and Sungmin.

Sungmin was in the same class as Hyukjae for some subjects and they were mostly partners for assignments because their names both start with Lee. They became acquainted that way and after a while, he introduced Kyuhyun, his boyfriend to Hyukjae.

They decided to go out together one day and Hyukjae brought Donghae along. When Donghae met Sungmin and Kyuhyun, he got a shock. He knew Kyuhyun through his maths class but never thought he would ever become acquainted with the said person. Sungmin had taken an instant liking towards the mute boy because he was just too adorable. But the most shocking part was that Kyuhyun, cold and uncaring Kyuhyun – except to his boyfriend, turned out to become very fond of Donghae. He treated Donghae like a little brother – eventhough Donghae was older, always watching out for him and tutoring him in maths.

When Donghae and Hyukjae had started dating, Kyuhyun had become even more protective, threatening to kill Hyukjae if he hurt Donghae in any way. At first, Hyukjae and Sungmin became quite annoyed at Kyuhyun’s protective behaviour. Hyukjae because he would never hurt Donghae since he loved him dearly, and Sungmin because Kyuhyun was HIS boyfriend! How dare he be so protective of another person?!

Donghae kind of enjoyed it because he didn’t have many friends. Hyukjae would always be number 1 to him, but having other friends was enjoyable as well. Plus, now that Hyukjae was his boyfriend, he needed another friend to run to for advice – like ual stuff *ehm* Donghae is a healthy man okay?

Hyukjae and Sungmin had eventually gotten over their jealousy because they could tell that their lovers only loved them in that way. What was between Donghae and Kyuhyun was nothing more than mere brotherhood. And to be honest, it wasn’t often they’d find someone who like Hyukjae, would be so patient and try to understand Donghae. So Hyukjae and Donghae were grateful while Sungmin was proud of his lover. After that, Kyuhyun and Sungmin would often invite Donghae and Hyukjae out for double dates, so the four of them became very good friends.

Hyukjae smiled while thinking back about the old days. He and Donghae and come a long way since then. Him working as a dance instructor while Donghae wrote children’s story books. Donghae was one of the best authors, in his opinion. But most people would just call him biased. Maybe he was, but he didn’t care. Donghae was the absolute best to him. He was perfect for him. And that’s why, Hyukjae planned to propose to Donghae that night.

He’d thought everything through, from where to go that day to what he was going to say while proposing. He was quite sure that his boyfriend of ten years would agree, but there still was that slight fear that wouldn’t go away. What if Hae doesn’t want to settle down? What if he’s never thought of marrying me? What if he doesn’t want to be with me? Hyukjae couldn’t help but fear.

While thinking about all the ‘what ifs’, he realized that the body he was holding tightly began to squirm. He then realized he had begun to squeeze Donghae tighter and tighter till he woke up.

“Oh gosh! Sorry, baby.” Hyukjae quickly apologized while loosening his hold, but not completely letting go.

Donghae looked at him while rubbing his eyes, still half asleep. What’s wrong?

Hyukjae shook his head. “Nothing, darling. Just thinking about the old days.”

Really? Donghae tilted his head to the side slightly – well, as best as he could since he was still lying down.

“Yeah.”

Okay then. Donghae kissed Hyukjae’s cheek. Good morning! Donghae smiled.

Hyukjae smiled back, “Good morning, love.” and then leaned in to kiss Donghae.

However, Donghae quickly covered Hyukjae’s mouth with his palms. No! Morning breath!

Hyukjae laughed, he knew Donghae wouldn’t kiss him until both had brushed their teeth. “C’mon, Hae. You know I don’t care about that. I wanna kiss my baby!” Hyukjae whinned. But Donghae was stubborn and covered his own mouth while shaking his head rapidly.

Hyukjae finally gave up, “Fine... C’mon, the faster we brush out teeth, the faster I get my morning kiss.” He then pulled Donghae up along with himself and dragged him to the bathroom.

After they had finish their morning routines, Hyukjae hooked his arm around Donghae’s waist and pulled him close, “Now?”

Donghae rolled his eyes, so needy.

“As if you aren’t too. I believe someone was begging for my kisses last week.”

Donghae sent him a small glare. No fair! I would’ve won if you didn’t keep seducing me.

“Oh really? Want to try again? We can always have another bet to see who can last longer without kissing.” Hyukjae smirked, he knew his baby wouldn’t survive.

Donghae pouted, don’t wanna.

Hyukjae couldn’t take it anymore – especially with that adorable pout in front of him – and leaned in to press his lips on Donghae’s. Donghae instantly responded, loving the feel of his lover’s lips on his own.

They stood there kissing for a while. Just feeling each other and conveying their mutual love for each other through kisses and small pecks.

And to think we were too nervous to kiss each other the first month we were dating. Donghae thought to himself. When Hyukjae and Donghae had first started going out, they didn’t kiss each other – except for kisses or pecks on the cheeks or forehead. Hyukjae was scared he was moving too fast and Donghae was too inexperienced. In the end, Donghae made the first move because Kyuhyun scared him by saying if Donghae didn’t do it soon, Hyukjae would lose interest and move on – this earned him a smack by Sungmin and Hyukjae after.

After they were finally done kissing, they still stayed in each other’s embrace, not wanting to let go at all. Eventhough they lived together now, they never got tired of each other. They had moved out of their parent’s house when they were 22 – after they started earning some income, hoping to start a new life together. They had bought an apartment that was nearby to the dance studio Hyukjae mostly frequently went to. It was small and cosy, perfect for just two people.

“I don’t have work today.” Hyukjae broke the silence suddenly to tell his lover.

Donghae tilted his head slightly, really?

“Yeah. I thought we could spend the day together. Been a while since we last spent one whole day alone together, no?”

Donghae nodded.

“So…” Hyukjae placed a little kiss on Donghae’s nose, “I was thinking we could make pancakes for breakfast, then go watch a movie and walk around the mall, and finally finish off the day with dinner at Heechul’s boyfriend’s restaurant.”

Donghae went to pick up his notebook and pen lying on the table beside their bed. Why does it sound like we’re going on a date? He then showed it to Hyukjae.

“Hmm… I guess we could call it a date?” He smiled a little. “We’re a couple, Hae. We should go on dates every once in a while, right?”

Donghae nodded, but couldn’t help the blush that appeared on his face.

Hyukjae chuckled, “Baby, we’ve been dating for 10 years now. How can you still blush because a simple date?” Though it’s not really a simple date, is it? He thought to himself.

Donghae blushed even more. At least you’re lucky I’m not panicking over what to wear for today. Donghae wrote.

“I don’t mind, if it’s you I bet it would look so cute.” Hyukjae laughed a little imagining Donghae running around and throwing out all the clothes from the wardrobe trying to find something to wear.

Hyukkie, don’t be mean. Donghae pouted.

“Okay, okay. Well, we should go make breakfast now, shouldn’t we?”

Donghae nodded, took Hyukjae’s hand in his and skipped out the room happily, making Hyukjae smiled even more – he always felt happy with Donghae around him.

Breakfast went by smoothly; if you don’t count the flour fight they had which resulted with them having to eat cereal instead because they didn’t have enough flour left to make the pancakes after. Hyukjae had insisted that Donghae sit on his lap for breakfast because he they didn’t have much time to act lovey dovey anymore eventhough he always wanted his baby to be close to him. Donghae didn’t have the heart to refuse after seeing Hyukjae’s pleading face.

After breakfast, both of them dressed in appropriate clothes, and then headed to the shopping mall nearby to watch a movie. Hyukjae didn’t need to ask Donghae what movie he wanted to watch because he knew his kiddo-baby-lover would wanna watch Monsters University. So he went to buy their tickets and popcorn. Throughout the movie, Donghae would squeeze Hyukjae’s arm because he was too excited. Whether because they were on a date or because of the movie itself, Hyukjae didn’t know, nor did he think it necessary to know. As long as his lover was happy and enjoying himself, Hyukjae was content.

They went shopping after the movie. They walked into random shops to browse and would sometimes buy things they thought they needed or were nice. Hyukjae mostly bought new music disc so he try out different styles of dancing while Donghae would browse through bookstores and buy new novels to read.

By the time they were done, it was already 6.30PM. “Let’s go, Hae. We can go home to drop off these things and take a shower, and then head over to the restaurant for dinner. Heechul’s expecting us by 7.30.”

Donghae nodded and quickly dragged Hyukjae to the car. He was excited to see his Heechul Hyung after so long – not really, they met 2 weeks ago.

After they reached home and showered, Hyukjae requested Donghae wear the suit he had given him to wear for their 10-year-anniversary. Donghae was puzzled because it was a really expensive suit.

He wrote, but we’re just having dinner at a friend’s restaurant.

“I heard there was going to be some big event tonight. Better dress nicely.”

If there’s going to be an event, wouldn’t we be intruding?

“I already cleared it with Heechul Hyung. It’s fine. The guy proposing said he doesn’t mind.”

Proposing? Someone is going to propose there tonight?

“Yeah.”

Oh. Hey, Hyukkie… Will we ever… You know… Settle down?

“Can’t wait to be married to me, huh?”

Donghae didn’t write a response, he just pouted. He really wanted Hyukjae to propose to him already, but didn’t want to pressure Hyukjae.

Hyukjae kissed away Donghae’s pout. Replacing it with a smile. “Trust me, love. One day, we will both only ever belong to each other.” Hopefully that day will be today.

Donghae nodded, I do trust you, I always have.

Hyukjae smiled, “c’mon, get dressed and let’s go. Don’t want to keep Heechul hyung waiting, do we?”

Donghae smiled back and quickly got dressed.

When they reached the restaurant, they immediately spotted Heechul waiting outside the restaurant. Donghae ran up to him and gave him a tight hug, which Heechul gladly returned. “Hello, my baby.”

“Yah! He’s my baby!” Hyukjae pouted.

“In your dreams, monkey. He might be your boyfriend, but he’s my baby.”

Hyukjae pouted even more.

“Don’t pout, you look ugly. Go find Hankyung, would you? He said he needed to discuss something with you.”

Hyukjae nodded, “I’ll be back, baby.” He then kissed Donghae’s forehead before leaving.

After he left, Donghae gave Heechul a questioning look.

“Hey, don’t look at me. I don’t know what those men talk about.”

Donghae smiled at that and allowed Heechul to lead him into the restaurant. They sat right in the centre of the restaurant. Donghae looked around, and then took out his pen and notebook.

Hyung, I thought there was going to be a proposal tonight?

Heechul was stunned a while, he knows? “what are you talking about, Hae?”

Hyukkie said someone was proposing here tonight but we could come anyway since he already cleared it with you.

That monkey. “Ah! Yeah… Sorry, was thinking about something so it didn’t click just now. The boyfriend is just running a little late.”

Oh… Where’s the girl then?

“No idea.” There isn’t one, Hae. You’re a man.

Oh… Don’t you want to find out?

“Nope. They’ll figure something out on their own.”

You never change. Anyway, I wonder where’s Hyukkie.

Just as he wrote that sentence, the lights went out. Donghae instantly reached out his hand to touch Heechul, but couldn’t find him. He started panicking because he couldn’t call out either. I hate the dark. I hate being alone. Don’t worry, Hae, Hyukkie will come for you.

Donghae waited to finally hear Hyukjae’s voice calling for him. But it never came. Hyukkie, where are you? I’m scared. I need you.

His eyes were tearing up when he finally heard something.

Music?

And then a spotlight was suddenly upon him. He squinted since his eyes hadn’t focused yet and realized that someone was singing.

That voice… It sounds so familiar.

Suddenly, another spotlight was and he saw Kyuhyun there, holding a mike and singing. Another voice was heard and he saw Sungmin walking up behind Kyuhyun, he was also holding a mike and singing.

They were singing a slow romance song that Donghae had only heard a couple of times when Hyukjae played it in the car. He then heard someone rapping and turned towards the voice. He knew who that voice belonged to instantly.

Hyukjae was standing right behind Donghae and rapping to the lyrics of the song.

I can’t imagine my life without you.

You are my sun, my moon, my stars and my sky.

You’re like gravity, pulling me towards you.

I don’t know what I’d do without you.

I promise you now, that I’ll love you forever.

I promise I’ll always do my best to make you happy.

I know I’m not the best choice out there.

But I’m selfish and I just can’t live without you.

I need you by my side.

So, please baby please, say you’ll be mine forever.

As Hyukjae ended his rap and the song came to an end, Donghae’s face was already wet with his tears. He had finally caught on to who was proposing that night and why Heechul had told him the boyfriends wasn’t there and he understood why Heechul said didn’t know where the girl was – there was no girl. It was him. And Hyukjae was the one proposing. Hyukjae was proposing to him. He could hardly believe it. He’d been waiting for this moment for so long and it was finally here.

“Baby? Don’t cry.” Hyukjae took out his handkerchief to wipe away the tears. Donghae shook his head and smiled. I’m fine. Just happy.

Hyukjae smiled and took a deep breath, “Okay, here goes… Donghae, baby, sweetheart, darling, precious and most of all, my love, I know I’m not the best choice out there for you. I’m not the best looking or richest man there is, I’m not always very well-mannered and I’m sometimes short tempered.  I tend to get jealous easily and will always be protective and possessive towards you. But…” He takes another deep breath, “I just want you to know that I’ll always be loyal to you. I’ve always and will always love you and only you. I may over-protective and possessive toward you, but I’m only like that because I care about you and am scared of even the thought of losing you. I want you to always be there with me, baby. I love you more than anything in this entire universe and I hope that you feel the same way too.”

Donghae had begun to cry by this point and Hyukjae was gently caressing away his tears with his thumbs. “I guess what I’m trying to ask you is…” He pulled a small box out of his pocket and got down on one knee.

“Will you marry me?”

Donghae couldn’t keep his tears or smile from appearing on his face. He nodded his head, over and over again until Hyukjae embraced him. But he didn’t fail to notice the tears that appeared in Hyukjae’s eyes as well.

He also heard the claps that were coming from his friends and family – which he didn’t even notice were there – surrounding them as well as the whistles and shout of joy. Hyukjae and Donghae also heard the mumbles of “I’ll kill you if you hurt our precious baby, monkey.” coming from Kyuhyun and Heechul.

They laughed and kissed. Sharing their happiness and passion for each other. As they held each other, they couldn’t help but think.
