Foreword

Him: Nam Woohyun

Age: 16

Woohyun, a sophomore student of Seoul’s School of Performing Arts (SOPA), is currently in Class 2-A along with his friends, Lee Howon, Lee Sungyeol and Kim Myungsoo. They belong in a group called Infinite, with their leader, Kim Sunggyu; Jang Dongwoo, who is currently in Class 3-A with the leader; and the maknae of the group, Lee Sungjong, who is currently in Class 1-A.

Woohyun is the greasy type. He easily flirts with any female that comes his way. He has his way with women. He perfectly knows which words to say, and which words not to say. He completely knows what girls would like to hear. It’s a skill that he frequently boasts from his friends.

During his freshmen years, he always had the thing for his sunbae, Han Seungyeon, who was in Class 2-A at that time.  She is a member in a group called KARA. Knowing what Woohyun was like, she played along with him a little and made him her ‘plaything’.

Everyone knew they were an item. Woohyun would walk her to school, walk her to her class, treat her lunch, and would walk her home every day. Because of that, he barely had time for his friends. As for Seungyeon, she was getting tired of it. Her friends would for having such a nauseous boy toy.

He knew that they weren’t together yet. He was still in the process of winning her heart completely, yet he was so persistent. His friends would for being serious that time. It would be his first serious relationship if Seungyeon would say yes. He had the same thought, that if she would give him a shot, maybe he’d change his ways. That he would actually be serious.

But all of those thoughts vanished in one dreaded day in September during the second semester, when he just got back from his PE class. He saw Han Seungyeon, the girl he had been courting for the past five months, in his very eyes, confessing to his sunbae, Cho Kyuhyun, in the corner along the hallways. His friends followed him from behind and watched as the scene unfolded in their eyes.

Woohyun froze in his spot. Lee Howon, better known as Hoya, tried to pull him away but he remained still. Anger was flashed in his eyes. He briskly walked pass them and went to their homeroom. He took his belongings with him and went home. After the incident, Nam Woohyun was back again. He was back in his old ways. He was yet again a player; a greasy, flirty, cocky and conceited guy that his friends managed to accept for a long time.

The thought of having a serious relationship never crossed his mind again, not until he met the girl, whom he never thought would make him feel so curious and intriguing at the same time.

Sunmi, who made him intentionally hug her during their first meeting.

Sunmi, who unconsciously made him go to school early for the first time.

Sunmi, who made him agree to buy Sungjong a month supply of banana milk yogurt, considering that he never spends his money to anyone, just to find out her name.

Sunmi, who made him kneel down in front of Dongwoo just to accept his approval.

Sunmi, who eagerly eats whatever he cooks for her.

Sunmi, who once chose him over her Bunny Family.

Sunmi, who made him ask help from s just to serenade her.

Sunmi, who made him feel nervous whenever he sings for her.

Sunmi, the one he finally admitted that he’s in love with.

To what extent can he ignore the thought of changing his old ways? Especially when he already found the reason for his changes?

Her: Choi Sunmi

Age: 15

Sunmi is currently the Vice President of Class 1-A. She was always on top of her class, from grade school up until middle school. Though she always had a tough competition with her friend-slash-rival, Yoo Youngjae ever since they were kids, she always managed to beat him and scored higher than him in any subject. She was also the Class Valedictorian when she finished grade school and middle school.

She was born with a silver spoon, yet she never did take advantage of their wealth and remained humble. Her father is a famous Chemical Engineer in Canada while her mother is a well-known CPA Lawyer in Seoul. She had a sister who is a year younger than her.

She wouldn’t have topped her class if it weren’t for her beloved Mother. Her mother had always been her inspiration. Ever since she was little, she would always hope to be like her Mom someday. Since then, she would study really hard and surpass everyone in her class.

Everything was set for her. At a young age, she constantly told her parents that she wanted to be a CPA Lawyer. When she was in third grade, she had already planned out her future. She would constantly remind herself to study hard. Her parents freely let her decide and had no control over her dreams until Sunmi found her passion for dancing.

At age three, her Dad had taught her to play the violin and introduced her to different musical instruments. She loves to play the piano and the drums. At the age of six, she attended ballet and jazz classes and met Park Soojung, who was eight years old at that time. Sunmi learned to love dancing from then on. Aside from her academics, she is surprisingly musically inclined. That’s how she met the Bunny Family.

Sunmi has always been an introvert as she never did initiate any small talks. She would rarely socialize with people she barely knew. She would only talk whenever it’s necessary. Aside from that, she usually stays in the background, either reading her book, listening to music, or doing both. As to how she belonged to the Bunny Family, it remains a mystery.

The Bunny Family composed of Park Soojung, Bang Yongguk and Kim Himchan, who were currently in their junior years; Jung Daehyun, Yoo Daejin and Yoo Youngjae, who were in Sunmi’s class; Moon Jongup, Hwang Jinhee and Sunmi’s baby cousin, Choi Junhong, who were still in middle school. As to how the group formed, it was also a mystery. They just had their own connections and instantly clicked.

During middle school, Sunmi started wearing dental braces. Her teeth weren’t really crooked but she just liked seeing herself wearing one. Her parents thought it was ridiculous but allowed her otherwise. She also started wearing huge black-rimmed glasses. It merely covered half of her face. Her eyesight was perfectly fine but she insisted on wearing non-graded ones.

In middle school, she was in the same class as Lee Taemin, the maknae of a famous group called Shinee. He is known for his sleek dancing skills. During dance classes, they were always paired together as Sunmi usually delivered graceful moves. Day by day, Sunmi unconsciously grew feelings for her dance partner. She doesn’t show it though. She usually hides it through her infamous ‘stoic goddess’ face as what Himchan would like to call it. She continuously reminded herself that her studies come first, that after that, everything will follow.

During white day, Sunmi unexpectedly received a confession from Taemin. He wasn’t the first guy to confess to her. There were other two but she have no feelings for them. But this time, it’s Taemin, the guy that she had secretly fallen for. Taemin said he likes her and that he wants to know her better. Choi Sunmi, the girl who loves Math problems and enjoys solving them in seconds whenever she’s bored, stood in front of a boy, completely stunned from trying to comprehend everything and unable to respond fully, as if facing the most difficult question she had encountered. Minutes had passed before she accepted his confession and gave him a shot.

Taemin was her first boyfriend. The Bunny Family were the first ones to know. Yongguk, the Grandpa of the group, gave Taemin his approving look. Himchan welcomed him with open arms. Soojung was hesitant to give him her blessing but decided otherwise. Youngjae wouldn’t care less. Daejin, Sunmi’s best friend, was happy for her. Jongup, Jinhee and Zelo cheerfully welcomed him. Well, not everyone really approved of the relationship. On the corner, stood Daehyun, the mysterious boy, who had always secretly loved Sunmi from afar. Even though they were always together ever since kindergarten, he still had no guts to confess to her. Daehyun didn’t know that his best friend, Youngjae knew his feelings for Sunmi.

Eight months had passed and Taemin slowly became distant of her. She didn’t mind as she wasn’t really the clingy type of girlfriend. She assumed that he just needed space. Little did she know that he needed space completely. After a week, Taemin gathered all his strength to finally end their relationship. It seemed like a déjà vu for Sunmi. She presented the same expression when he confessed, only this time, he had broken up with her. Sunmi asked the reason why he decided to break up.

“I realized that I love your cousin more,” was his blunt reply. She didn’t see it coming. Well, of course they’d belong to the same group. Shinee and f(x), the group where Sulli belonged, would always hang out together. Sunmi gathered all her little strength and agreed to end the relationship. With a weak smile, they managed to part formally.

Choi Jinri, Sunmi’s cousin from her father’s side, had stolen the heart of her first love, Taemin. Sunmi seemed to be a person with no insecurities. Well, think again. You thought wrongly. She is still human, after all. She had always been insecure of her cousin, Jinri, better known as Sulli. On family gatherings, Sulli was always preferred by their relatives as she was friendlier and sociable unlike Sunmi. She grew up having that insecurity inside her. She managed to ignore it and focused on her studies but after Taemin’s break up statement, she never felt even more insecure.

Years had passed and Sunmi and Taemin had remained friends while he dated Sulli. At first, they would share awkward glances. As time passed, the awkwardness finally drifted and was long gone. Some of their classmates from middle school would still tease them but they would only ignore it. Up until high school, they still belonged in the same class. Whenever they met, inside or outside campus, they would no longer share awkward glances or forced smiles but genuine ones. They knew that it was all in the past and it was long over. They have completely moved on and parted their own ways.

Upon entering high school, she met one guy that she never thought would make her feel jittery whenever he’s around.

Woohyun, who disturbed her peace, under the cool shade of an old oak tree during their first meet.

Woohyun, who tried to start small conversations even though she barely responded and paid attention.

Woohyun, who keeps following her around; walking her to school and walking her home.

Woohyun, who entered the library a few times just to keep her company.

Woohyun, who makes her open up and listens to her problems.

Woohyun, who cooks for her favorite meals.

Woohyun, who makes her feel carefree and less conscious about herself.

Woohyun, who witnessed her dancing in the rain and eventually joined her, ending up sick the next morning.

Woohyun, who makes her experience butterflies in her tummy whenever he sings for her.

Woohyun, the one she found herself falling for.

To what extent can one be truly happy? Especially in love?
