Second Chances
Description
When Junhong moves into Jongup's home he seems a lot less like a dangerous felon and a lot more like a scared little boy. Jongup figures he's probably a little bit of both.
Foreword
Choi Junhong is a juvenile delinquent. He spent a year in juvenile hall for breaking and entering – a year – and was removed from his parents after they were arrested for providing minors with narcotic substances. He was also exactly the type of person my parents thought needed to be invited into our home. Everyone deserves a second chance, they said.
When he arrived he was six feet tall, skinny and pale as hell, and had the worst attitude of anyone I had ever had the misfortune of meeting. The cops brought him up to our doorstep and he didn’t even bother to thank my parents for taking him in. After getting a dirty look from my mother I took Junhong’s back and waved for him to follow me to his room.
Ever since my older brother had gone to college we had had a spare room and my parents had transformed it into a room for Junhong. “This is your room.” I told him, forcing myself to smile.
He bit his lip as he snatched his bag away from me. It seemed weird that he only had an overnight bag but I didn’t question it. When it didn’t seem like he was going to respond I scurried out of the room, hoping that I hadn’t been in the room long enough to catch the delinquent.
