The Big Day

Happily Ever after

It was a beautiful sunny summer day. The scenery alone was something to be celebrated. The flowers that graced the landscape in spring were in complete bloom. A breeze that smelled of the sea and white peaches filled the mid-afternoon air. The sky displayed an exceptionally shimmering sapphire; enormous cotton like lumps for clouds breezed along the skies. It was a beautiful day to spend outside; and an even more beautiful scene for a wedding. It was the first day of summer. It was promised that on this day, you would be the happiest girl in the world. “As soon as we can smell the sea, I will marry you.” A charming confession made only a few months ago. Though the time since then has been short, your love for him has bloomed long ago; and with great reason. He was the definition of perfect. His smile – so radiant and handsome – his smile could stop any woman in her tracks. His personal style was simple – a button-up and skinny’s usually - but it fitted his personality perfectly.  He was clumsy and often stumbled over his own feet, but that only made him that more perfect. And his voice? His voice was that of an angel. It was the cause of your falling for him. He was a definite catch no matter which way anyone looked at it, and he has decided to marry not just anyone, but you. This day was defiantly a day to remember.

“Hey! Stop trying to peek out!” A familiar voice of comfort exclaims from inside of the room you had been stowed away for make-up and other pre-ceremonial preparations. “You don’t want your groom to see you, it’s bad luck!” “Oh mom… I just want to see who all came.” For everyone who was just arriving and mingling, they were running on the high that is a beautiful wedding day. For you, you were exhausted already from all the running around and fighting into the elaborate wedding dress that was specifically designed for this very day. “He sure does know a thing or two about style. How would a guy know so much about wedding dresses, huh?” The elder marveled over the garment. “I guess it comes naturally when you work in an industry that puts you and your co-workers in positions that deal with weddings. I wouldn’t doubt if he married in a drama or something.” She smiles to herself, eyes still set on the dress. “C’mon mom, you know that stuff isn’t important to me.” For you, you didn’t want to seem like that kind of woman. Money and status wasn’t important, but no matter how you felt people were going to talk. “Ahhh, I’m not implying anything! I just feel that much more happy for you that you get to wear such a beautiful dress on your most special day.” Her eyes begun to redden from the sting of oncoming tears. “Oh mom…” In search for the tissue box that was readily prepared for your own tears from ruining the elaborate make-up, you hand her the open box to share. “I’m just so happy that you two care so much about each other… I wish your father could have made it out here to see how much of a beautiful woman you have become.” Her words were too much, the urge to cry was becoming strong. “Oh mom… don’t get all mushy on me right now,” you wipe away a tear before it could fall, “Dad will love the pictures when you get back to the states, so don’t think too much about it!” Through the few tears that have already fallen she smiles. Extending her arms open she motions her hands for you to come closer. “Just let me hug you one last time before you’re someone else’s problem.” You both laugh. She hugs you for a few silent moments. And releases you before laying a warm kiss on your cheek. “I’ll go find his mother so I can cry to someone else before the ceremony begins.” And with that, she exits. Taking one last look before making her way to her spot, bliss fills her eyes as she closes the door behind her.

“So this is really real, huh?” it was minutes before everyone would be in their places. The only thought on your mind was ‘what is he doing right now?’. The halls seemed to be dying down a little from the chatter that had once filled them. Your heart begins to race as the reality starts to sink in. Time couldn’t move any faster; you prayed for it to slow down. “Wow. If I had known marrying me would make you this nervous I would have been fine with eloping.” The familiar voice breaks your brief meltdown. Your eyes widened with surprise as you turned to the door to see him standing there; an all white tux with a bright pink peony sitting in the pocket of the jacket, the same flower that consisted of your bouquet. “O-Onew! You aren’t supposed to be in here!” Your cheeks begin to flush, he really did look good in everything. You look at the ground coyly. Despite if he was going to be your husband in a few moments, it felt a little… embarrassing having him see you like this at this very moment. He smiles brightly, his eyes twinkling with delight. “Why? Because its bad luck?” He chuckles, closing in on you in short fluid steps. “With how often I seem to mess something up, I say what’s the worst that can happen?” You purse your lips in disapproval. “Ya… you aren’t going to mess anything up. You can do all those other things in front of strangers and be fine... for the most part.” you giggle briefly to yourself, thinking about his clumsiness on stage. He shares a chuckle with you. “But these are my friends and family and everyone I know. And people from the company and your family… I’m the one that’s going to mess up.” His brows furrow with concern. “Hey… come on now.” He places his gloved hand on your shoulder, rubbing slowly to sooth the nerves from all the excitement. You bite your lip, “O- ah, Jinki… I don’t know if this is a good idea,” you sigh disheartened, “We should have seriously eloped.” He smiles, removing his hand to take both of yours in his. Rubbing the back of your hands with his thumbs, he stares into your eyes with endearment. You blink confused, “What are yo-,” he cuts you off, “Do you, Lee Jinki, take this beautiful and graceful woman to be your bride? Forever by her side as her other half. Through sickness and through health so long as you live?” He turns to the imaginary priest and smiles. You couldn’t help but giggle at the display. Turning back to face you once more, he marvels at every feature in your face. His stare was making you blush, he was mesmerized. “You really are such a beautiful woman…” he mutters in almost a whisper.  You feel your face going red. He even begins to start blushing. “Oh my god… this guy.” You think to yourself, breaking one of your hands free to cover your blushing face. “Wait!” Broken out of his trance he retrieves your hand, pulling it away with a little too much force. You stumble into his chest, the racing of his heart audible as you hide your face in his frame. It was quiet. A few seconds had passed when you realized everything was really quiet. What could he be thinking? Why wasn’t he saying anything? You didn’t want to look up. The whole day already was playing with your nerves.  A few more silent seconds go by before he finally snakes an arm around your lower waist, holding you tightly as you are. “I do…” he whispers, loud enough for you two to hear. “Forever as long as I live, I promise to be the best husband I can be for her.” At the sound of his words you couldn’t help but look up at him. He was smiling, sentiment in his gaze. He takes an index finger to your chin, tilting it upward so he could see your full face. He calls out your name softly, “Fall if you feel like your feet aren’t listening. Drop the bouquet if your fingers don’t want to hold onto them. Let your voice squeak if you can’t get the words out right. Don’t be afraid to mess up…” He lowers his face closer to yours, a smile still painted on his lips as he takes yours tenderly. He kisses you deeply for a few moments. You couldn’t help but let a single tear fall down your cheek. His lips were soft. His cologne smelled like the sea. His grip wasn’t too tight, but you couldn’t find the strength to break free. Did you even want to break free? Here he was, Lee Jinki, raw and honest. On instinct, you move your arms up around his neck, linking them loosely together against his shoulders. He holds you a little tighter, locking onto the moment before he finally pulls away. “Don’t be afraid to mess up, because in a few moments, you’ll be my beautiful wife. And I? I’ll be your incredibly clumsy husband.”  Through teary eyes, you smile. “I love you, Lee Jinki.” He smiles. Removing his glove to wipe away the tear, he muses back blissfully. “And I love you… forever and ever."

The ceremony came and went. Your mother was a sobbing mess the whole time the vows were being exchanged. You could see Jonghyun giving two thumbs up the whole time with the biggest and goofiest smile on his face. Key would nudge him every so often with a scoff to make him stop goofing off. The two helped a lot with feeling at ease in front of everyone in the crowd. Jinki’s mother would wipe away a tear every so often. You noticed she had been looking at you the whole entire wedding. Afterward she came up to you to wish both of you luck as a couple. “And start making me grandchildren!” That was the last thing she said before going off to exchange words with your mother. You two couldn’t help but blush. A few of the SM artists came by to congratulate you. The CEO himself was even there. Your heart wouldn’t stop racing when he asked for a ‘family’ photo with you, him, and the rest of his label mates. It was seriously something you could only dream of. It was a beautiful ending to a wonderful day. After everyone left their blessings and the small all white bug that had ‘Just Married’ plastered all over the windows pulled in for your getaway you sigh once on the road. “This is really it, right?” Smiling with his eyes focused on the road, he nods. “Yep.” “I’m your wife now, right?” “Mhmm.” “And we’ll be together forever?” “As long as we live.” You smile. “And grandchildren for your mother?” You tease playfully, thinking about her outburst at the reception. He turn to you with a smirk planted on his face, “Oh, she won’t have to worry long about that.” You blush. He winks. Continuing on, you finally find peace. From now on, it was the two of you. No matter who would say anything in protest of the star’s bride, you knew for sure, everything he promised on this day would never be broken.
