Hwang Yoo Ri
Hwang Yoo Ri, a 19 year old freshman in collage, lives with the unbearable memory of her would-be husband Kim Jongdae who died a tragic death from Leukemia. From a privileged family, the young woman feels as though her life and heart will in no way be established. Since her father is a well know professor whose career has become a success, Yoo Ri and her family were constantly moving. Here today and gone tomorrow is how Yoo Ri felt while growing up. She never had the stability needed to make friends or even live the ordinary life of a child and teenager. Now in collage and semi on her own, Yoo Ri realizes just how much she’s missed in life and even more so, wonders if love and stability will ever be  possible. Is it likely for her to uncover a love to the same degree of satisfaction as her first, Jongdae?

Jang Geun Suk
The exact opposite of Yoo Ri, Jang Geun Suk, a self-made photographer whose only 20, has the responsibility of a family behind him. His father, a lowly farmer from Busan and his stay at home mother, both died in a brutal car accident that left no survivors while Geun Suk was in the 11th grade. They left him and his 11 year old sister all the money they had including  their farming land which covered the cost of his collage tuition. Leaving his younger sister in the care of his aunt, Jang Geun Suk is now attending one of the most prestigious schools in Seoul, hoping he can make a good life for him and his sister and eventually buy back his parents beautiful farmland. Unlike Yoo Ri, Geun Suk lived in the same town and the same house throughout elementary, Middle and High School. His dreams as a child were to see the world, and experience life in a different way than how he was raised. He wanted to feel life in the city and leave behind his childhood country living, but the abrupt death of his parents put his ideas on hold.

Foreword

Many would expect the lives of the rich and fortunate to be blissful and lavish. They have big handsome homes, beautiful cars, and an overabundance of designer clothes, Jewelry and shoes. One would assume that the rich and fortunate would enjoy what appears to be never-ending joy. But this ‘joy’ is only what’s being seen above the surface. Inside these lovely homes, you’ll find just as much misery and grief as you would any other. Why?

No matter how high-class and ‘lofty’ these rich persons are, the folly of being ‘human’ will always hang on their shoulders. Then why is it that society is so split? These rich and these poor are considered to be like different species. One will treat the other with disrespect as if they have no relation with one another at all. One thing is for sure: No human, wealthy or not could live without love. It has no boundaries. It has no pride in itself because it is meek.

Love isn’t just for the rich or the poor. Love does not care what values the other has or does not have. Love is love, and to be one who will experience love is a privilege. However, many people, rich or poor feel that they will never experience this unprejudiced phenomenon. Hwang Yoo Ri only asked for love. Instead she got 11 bedrooms, 4 maids, a pool and spa, 2 horses and a vintage Tiffany bracelet as an early high school graduation present.  Not to mention the chance to “explore the world” as her mother called it. Yoo Ri was forever grateful and humble but all she wanted was a little taste of stability. She moved 5 times in the course of 3 years and switched schools just as often. Her memories of childhood were always having to say good-bye right after making a new friend. Her father, a professor and her mother who works as a fashion consultant, never really understood what their daughter desired. “She must be happy with all her toys and pets. Her bedroom is like wonderland” they would say. Little did they know how cold and lifeless Yoo Ri began to feel. It’s only natural for a little girl to want to have friends and then for her to grow up and want love. But what if the only love offered to her, isn’t of the same class or rank? What if it isn’t rich like her?

It's not pretty there if you have ever gone.

If I show it to you know...will it make you run away

Or will you stay..."-Kelly Clarkson, Dark Side
