OUR LOVE STORY
JeTi

A certain blonde looked through the French doors. From where she was seated, she could clearly see the beautiful ambiance of the sky as the full moon shone brightly. It was one of those scenarios that could often be read in novels, she thought to herself. She had always been interested in books that she even used to buy books almost every week, creating a mountain on her desk.

So Nyuh Shi Dae’s leader, Taeyeon, used to scold her for leaving her books all over the room, leaving no space for her roommates to put their stuff. Jessica didn’t have the energy to organize all those books and so, she kept a couple that she actually liked and some others that her fans gave her, while she donated a lot to charity organization anonymously.

Hyoyeon snatched the yellow iPad that Jessica was holding tightly. The blonde jerked and looked at the gadget that was in Hyoyeon’s clutches, browsing through the iPad’s content. “Are you reading those novels again?”

The blonde eyed Hyoyeon, “Yes, I am.” She answered as she pulled the iPad with both of her hands from Hyoyoen’s, causing a ‘tug-of-war’. “I’m using my e-book on this.”

“You’re so lucky that Tiffany got you that iPad for your birthday.” Tiffany looked at both of them as her name was mentioned. Jessica’s and her eyes met for a moment. It seemed as though that they had lost their senses for a second, forgetting that they were supposed to be ignoring each other. “Hah!” Hyoyeon bellowed, interrupting the two in a happy tone as she successfully overpowered the petite brunette.

Jessica shifted her sight to Hyoyeon, who was joyfully jumping around as she held the yellow iPad. Tiffany knew that the blonde missed her reading days since Jessica wasn’t allowed to purchase any new books. Jessica even tried to be smart about it by buying secondhand-books from a store; however, Taeyeon still scolded her.

“Yah! Give it back!” Jessica stood up from the couch and fought Hyoyeon for her iPad. “Give it back!” She exclaimed once more in yet another octave.

Hyoyeon ignored Jessica and started to read the words on the iPad. “Ro-man-s-ce.” She read and smiled, “That’s the only word I could read there,” she pouted. “Whyyyy?” She asked in a whiney tone.

Jessica rolled her eyes, “Because you always ditched your English class. That’s why.” She put an emphasis on her words, making it more sarcastic. “You liked learning Chinese more so don’t complain now.” She couldn’t help but smirk, but just moments later, the proud smile on her face was then invaded by a frown. Hyoyeon’s skills in English may be inferior, but that didn’t mean that she wouldn’t figure out what she was reading. Most parts of it were self explanatory. But then again, Hyoyeon’s the type to easily give up when it comes to deciphering English texts. The feeling of relief rushed over the blonde.

The words were common to English speakers but not to Hyoyeon. However, she still tried to make out the alien alphabet that was in front of her. I’ll give it a couple more seconds and she’ll give up. The blonde thought.

I lo-b you, Tippany.” Jessica froze on the spot as Hyoyeon spoke those words from her iPad. “I can read that! Good thing that the character’s name isn’t complicated! Because I can read ‘Tiffany’ really well.”

Everyone looked at Hyoyeon while Jessica was still frozen on the spot. “Tiffany? Why? What were you reading, Jessica unnie?” Yoona asked as she was seated on the loveseat with Sunny, who was busy playing her Nintendo DSi.

“It’s…”

“It’s Sundays at Tiffany’s.” Taeyeon said, giggling uneasily.

“Huh? What? Tiffany’s?” Sooyoung asked Taeyeon as she finally wasn’t so busy munching on her food. “Quit speaking in English! What about Tiffany?”

“It’s the novel.” The leader explained.

“I don’t remember Mike saying that. Plus, isn’t the lead character’s named Jane?” Tiffany asked their leader.

Taeyeon laughed awkwardly and said, “There’s that part! I swear I remember.”

“You read English novels?”

“Tiffany, you don’t believe me?” Taeyeon placed both of her hands on top of her chest, acting as though she was hurt.

“I thought you guys were reading fanfiction there for a second.” SeoHyun said.

“Why would Jessica read those anyway? She likes to read novels!” Taeyeon said. “Pabo.”

Yuri threw her a glare. “Yah! Stop being such a smartass! It’s you and Sunny who actually likes to read those.”

“I just remembered, don’t they have fanfiction section on Soshified?” Sooyoung asked while munching on her Snicker bar. “I know Tiffany reads those online, too.”

“You mean our international fansite, right?” Hyoyeon asked. As she was now focused on the conversation with Sooyoung. Jessica saw the opportunity to steal the iPad back from the dancing-queen and seized it.

Hyoyeon took little notice and said to Sooyoung, “I’ve heard about that. That’s why I really want to learn English, too. We have stories about us that are written in Hangul but I really want to read stories about us in English.”

“Then you shouldn’t have ditched class.” Taeyeon, who was seated by Tiffany, said. The leader always told Hyoyeon to never ditch her classes but Hyoyeon didn’t really care about learning the Universal Language back then, and now she was regretting it.

“Well, I have Jessica to teach me.” The dancing queen then batted her eyes and smiled at Jessica. “I really want to read stories about me in English. I want to know what our foreign fans think of me.”

Jessica scoffed and flatly said, “Too bad. I won’t teach you.”

“Please?” Hyoyeon begged some more, “Please, please, please?”

“Well, judging from Jessica’s lazy nature, she really wouldn’t teach any of us.” Sunny butted in even though she was still busy controlling her character in her game console.

Jessica wanted to get Hyoyeon off her back and so, she decided to remain silent in agreement to Sunny’s statement. The blonde walked towards her seat.

“Fine!” Hyoyeon skipped towards Tiffany and sat beside the latter. She then linked their arms together. “Tiffany will teach me then. Right, Tiffany-ah?” She gave the same act from earlier but the difference was Tiffany had an opposite response to Hyoyeon’s acting skills.

“I don’t mind. Besides, I’m already teaching the maknae.”

“Yup. Tiffany unnie helps me read English words all the time.” Seohyun finally spoke as she had been silent the whole time; just trying to catch up to the conversation and waiting for an opportunity to speak. “We also read stories about us in English and some even pair us up with each other. That’s on Soshified, right?”

Tiffany smiled, “Yes. That’s on Soshified.”

“Pair us up?” Yoona asked; her face was unreadable as she imagined kissing and hugging her unnies or dongsaeng. It was somewhat awkward for her to imagine being with them romantically, but thinking about it now, she just laughed and thought it was just hilarious. It wasn’t like she would really date her sisters.

“Yeah, like the most popular ones about you are YoonYul or YoonHyun.” Seohyun said as she flushed bright pink. “And all the other unnies, too.”

Yoona’s laughter got louder, “That’s hilarious! I thought only our Korean fans write those, but International fans, too? About you and me? Me and the other unnies? Like, me and Sunny unnie?” She said as she shook Sunny, who shot her a glare because her character died. “Unnie, can you believe that? There’s even a story about us being lovers, too!” Sunny ignored her since she was still busy trying to not die in this new game, “Unnieeee.” She called Sunny using her ‘aegyo’ voice which made everyone around her cringed even Sunny, who was trying to not pay attention. “I should go read the ones in Hangul. I’m sure it’ll be fun.” She then faced Sunny again, “Unnieee.”

“YAH! You want a punch?!” Tiffany fisted her hand, threatening Yoona, but there was still a smile on her face and she was still giggling.

Hyoyeon then looked at Tiffany, “Do you… uhmm,” Hyoyeon couldn’t bring herself to speak about girl to girl pairings but she continued anyway in an uncomfortable tone, “Read about…us?”

Tiffany, Taeyeon, and Sooyoung, who were all seated on the same couch along with Hyoyeon, laughed at her. They couldn’t help but burst into laughter as the latter awkwardly asked about the subject. “Of course.” Tiffany finally managed to say. “It’s really interesting. There are good stories out there about us. It’s cute.” She flashed yet another smile. But Jessica noticed that there was something wrong about that smile, or any of the smiles that Tiffany had flashed recently. Jessica’s stomach formed a knot. She and Tiffany hadn’t been talking for about two weeks now, all because of a certain night that Jessica would never fail to remember. A night that invaded her mind, and now crept in even in her dreams.

Tiffany stood by the sofa in the living room, far from Jessica as the latter was standing opposite the former. There was the coffee table in between them. Tiffany made sure that there was distance between them, thinking that the blonde might feel disgusted with her words. “I’m in love with you.” She looked Jessica in the eyes as tears were falling from her eyes. Words that she wanted to say had finally escaped . There was the rush of relief that overwhelmed her, but at the same time, there was a mixture of fear, blending with the relief she felt.

“I…” Jessica averted her eyes and looked down. She didn’t want to see Tiffany.

Tiffany had been keeping everything inside that the moment she spoke the truth anent her feelings, it just became a huge reality check that this was wrong. And it wasn’t just her assuming things. Jessica’s reaction just proved that this wasn’t something that was easy to overcome. But she couldn’t give up now. She already said it so she decided to speak everything that she had been bottling up inside. “I’m in love with you, so much love that… it’s hurting me to just keep it inside me.” She pointed at her chest, “It hurts to keep this love, knowing full well it’s wrong to love you, wrong to love another girl…”

“Come on, Tiff. Don’t kid with me.” Jessica laughed awkwardly to hide her fluttering heart, but the tremor in her voice told otherwise.

“Jessi,” Tiffany sincerely looked at Jessica’s eyes as she called Jessica in a mellow tone, “do you really think I would kid about something like this?” Her tears were flowing but Jessica couldn’t go there and wipe it for Tiffany like she always did whenever the latter was crying. Instead of doing the usual, she just stared at Tiffany, not knowing how to react. The confession was too much for her to handle. She was used to talking to Tiffany about boys and her celebrity crushes that it was somehow like a joke that was supposed to be a hysterical one. But how could it be a joke when it was evident that Tiffany was in pain, crying and telling her how wrong it was to love another girl.

Girl…

“I…ugh... I’m a girl. Think what others---”

“It doesn’t matter to me, Jessica. I don’t want to lose you. I don’t care what people think because I know for a fact that what I’m feeling is real.” She took a step closer, avoiding the coffee table. She tried to reach for Jessica’s hand but the fear and confusion reflected in Jessica’s eyes told Tiffany that she couldn’t force her feelings on the blonde. “I’m sorry for telling you my feelings, but I’m not apologizing for feeling it.” Tiffany wiped her tears off with the back of her hand.

Jessica couldn’t find words to convey what she truly wanted to say. “Ah… Just…Let’s...Just…forge---“

“No, I don’t want to forget.” Tiffany interrupted as she looked away, not wanting to see Jessica as she spoke those words. She knew that mustering up all the courage wasn’t enough to securely capture Jessica’s heart. She knew that full well, but this was a harsh reality that Tiffany didn’t want to set in.

“Tiff, I’m a girl.” Jessica’s tone was weak.

With Jessica’s reply, Tiffany understood that she shouldn’t push the issue further. It may be hard to accept now, but it was all she could do. She told Jessica her feelings, and those feelings weren’t returned. “I know... I know you’re a girl… and it’s because you’re a girl that I fel---“ Tiffany knew better than to repeat it again. She gave her best to let her feelings be known, and it was known. “Yeah… just… forget it.” She tried smiling at Jessica, but it she ended up scowling, trying to keep her tears from falling but she failed miserably as she saw Jessica hurriedly walked towards the blonde’s room. Tiffany placed both of her hands on , suppressing her sobs as she ran towards her room.

Was this the last time she could say ‘I love you’ to Jessica? Tiffany wondered and with that realization, she lost all feeling in her legs, kneeling in agony. She then leaned on the door as she hugged her knees, crying to herself. She covered with her hands, trying to not make noise for the girls to not hear her sobs. The last thing she wanted was someone to comfort her. Being alone in a time like this was something she wanted. Because hurting alone was better than dumping her pain to someone else. Breathing became harder as her cries grew bigger. She shut her eyes, a tear or two were falling. Crying was supposed to make her feel better, but all it did was to shatter her heart more each time those stupid tears fall.

“Tiffany unnie,” Yoona called. “what’s your favorite pairing?” Hearing about this, Jessica couldn’t help but discreetly pay attention to Tiffany’s answer. “I’m sure you love yoonti… is that what you call our pairing?”

“Psssh!” Sooyoung made a mocking sound, “She loves SooFany more!”

“Not even! I think YulFany is the best pairing out there.” The tanned girl finally chimed in, and then added, “Just look at me. I’m hot. Tiffany’s hot. It’s a perfect match.”

Taeyeon rolled her eyes. “Have you seen all those TaeNy moments on the internet? They even have this thing called the Locksmith or something.”

“Well, have you seen our YulTi hosting moments? Tiffany loves me a lot.” Yuri crossed her arms as she comfortably leaned back on the couch. “We are the best pairing. Most popular throughout the globe!”

Hyoyeon her imaginary mustache with a serious expression on. “But don’t you think that Jessica and Tiffany is the most popular pairing?” Jessica was left baffled. She couldn’t ask why Hyoyeon concluded such a thing but even without asking, Hyoyeon continued, “Don’t you think so?” She asked for everyone’s or anyone’s opinion.

Jessica gulped down, discreetly trying to hide her tensed expression. That question was something both Tiffany and Jessica would like to avoid, but it was one thing they couldn’t avoid. “Why do you think so?” Tiffany asked.

The blonde simply eyed Tiffany, but quickly averted her gaze towards something unparticular. She still couldn’t look at the girl after all these times. Not yet at least.

“Well,” Hyoyeon started, “It’s going to be easy for you to communicate since both of you can speak English. Wouldn’t writers be attracted to you writing about you guys?” She paused and then continued, “Think about it, you guys were born in the same hospital. The first snow thingy… those duets… and many more cute moments that they can use in fanfiction!”

Sooyoung laughed, “Oh yeah! You’re right! If I was a writer, I’d write about Tiffany and Jessica, too. It’ll be funny!”

“I don’t think it’s funny.” Taeyeon butted in, “Don’t you think… it's just destiny playing tricks on them? It’s pretty cute actually.” She carefully threw a glare at Sooyoung, hinting the shikshin to shut up. “Right?”

“Right.” Sooyoung chuckled in fear. She did say something really stupid.

Jessica glared at the two. At that point, Jessica couldn’t help but dislike Taeyeon’s and Sooyoung’s irresponsible comments, giving room to talk about JeTi more. She told Taeyeon everything that happened between Tiffany and her. Sooyoung, Taeyeon and Jessica never hide anything from one another, even moments like ‘a girl confessed to me’ or ‘This guy said he likes me’. All random things were shared with each other.

Tiffany shrugged, “I don’t know.”

“Tiffany doesn’t agree coz’ 2NY is real!” Sunny bellowed and laughed as she paused her game. Tiffany and the other girls laughed along with her except Jessica.

Jessica closed her eyes; she knew they were kidding but it still pained her. It was somehow agonizing. She was in self denial. Am I really in love with her? She had been asking herself that for the past week. She missed Tiffany’s company, her warm hugs, and her smile that she adored, and practically everything else about Tiffany that she could no longer have.

Jessica wanted to escape. How could they fall in love with each other when they treated each other like sisters? From their trainee days to their debut and even to those time when they were busy promoting, they were all sisters.

She didn’t want to confuse her heart any longer.

“Unnies!” Yoona called for no specific ‘unnie’ as she pointed at Yuri, who was now sleeping with her tongue hanging out. Again. Yoona laughed, was wide open, the famous Alligator Yoong laugh. “This is so funny! Get a camera!” But as soon as Sooyoung fished her phone out of her pocket, Yuri woke up. She then sleepily looked around as everyone’s attention was on her.

“I’m going to my room.” The petite brunette stood up as she held on to her Ipad, walking away from the girls, who were still busy making fun of Yuri.

“Jessica! Wanna play DSi with me?” Sunny lifted her gaming console, waving it even though Jessica’s back was facing her. Jessica just shook her head, walked towards her room and soon laid on her bed.

It was a relief for Jessica that Hyoyeon didn’t see that she was on Soshified. She clicked the Gesture thread, and soon after clicked on chapter eighteen. It was great for her to have this break to catch up on her reading. She only started reading this fanfiction yesterday and she never wanted to stop. She made herself comfortable on her bed.

For some reason, Jessica was a bit upset about the fact that even in fanfictions, Tiffany was always the one to express her feeling first. Why was Tiffany always the one confessing?! Almost in every story, Jessica was the weak girl that just waited for Tiffany to take notice of her. Was she really like that?

Her heart might be cluttered and her mind might be clouded, but reading about how they could be, made things a bit bearable for her. In stories and their real life, Tiffany was bossy and that was something that couldn’t be denied. She was worse than their manager, and that was actually written by people, too. The similarity of real life to fanfiction was really interesting, warming her hear that she couldn’t help but smile. She could relate to this story and how sweet her and Tiffany’s relationship in those stories was.

Her reading was halted by a knock on the door; she looked towards the sound, and saw Taeyeon and Sooyoung enter respectively.

“Jessica,” Sooyoung frowned as she stood. “You know I was just kidding about SooFany, right?” The sadness in her tone was evident. Jessica just looked at her without saying a word and then shifted her gaze to Taeyeon. The then blonde faced the wall, clearly avoiding the two. Sooyoung hated it when Jessica did that to her; she felt unwelcomed. “This is my room, too. I could stay here all I want.” She pouted and sat on her bed.

Taeyeon noticed the smile on Jessica’s face as she walked closer towards the blonde. “Yah!” She exclaimed, “Why are you tricking her again?” Even though Taeyeon was trying to scold Jessica, she couldn’t help but smile along. It was cute that her best friend was acting childish and she liked seeing that.

“Because it’s funny.” Jessica answered.

“Yah!” Sooyoung threw a pillow at Jessica, “And here I thought you were really mad at me! You know, I felt guilty.” Jessica just shrugged, not letting Sooyoung’s yells get to her. It was as if she blocked her friend’s voice in her mind.

“So, why are you guys here?” Jessica finally asked.

“Just to see if you’re mad at us.” Taeyeon confessed with a frown on her face. It worried her whenever Jessica seemed upset since Jessica was the type to use the silent treatment on people when she was mad.

“Why would I be mad when all you did was annoy me?” Jessica rolled her eyes. “I mean, I don’t really have the right to be mad since you weren’t really doing anything bad, right?”

Taeyeon and Sooyoung swallowed their saliva. They knew they were both in trouble for what they had done earlier.

Sooyoung laughed awkwardly as she stood up from her bed and sat on Jessica’s. She playfully slapped the blonde’s leg, “We were just kidding. It’s not like we want Tiffany to know that we know about that confession so we kinda played it cool.”

“Yeah! We don’t want her to know that you told us. So don’t be mad.” Taeyeon agreed.

Jessica smiled again, “I’m not mad. I just don’t really know what to do.” The smile vanished and was soon replaced by a frown; her eyes were sad. “I don’t even know what I’m feeling. It’s pretty confusing.”

“Isn’t it love?” Taeyeon answered in a suggestive tone. She sat next to Sooyoung. “Didn’t you tell us that you think that you love her in you know... that way?”

Jessica sighed, “That’s the thing… I think I love her. Shouldn’t it be a feeling? Shouldn’t I know about it already? Like… I wouldn’t have to think anymore. I should just know I love her. Plus… I don’t think she loves me anymore.”

Taeyeon scoffed. They had this conversation before. This was one thing that the Kid Leader hated about Jessica. “You think too much, too logical at fault.” She sighed. “We’ve talked about this and you know what I’m going to say…” She paused to collect herself, “but I'm just going to say it again. Tiffany’s the type of person who goes to church and yet, she confessed to you. She disregarded her morals because of you.” Jessica remained silent and so Taeyeon continued, “She’s not asking for marriage. She just said she loved you and hoped you’d love her too.”

“I know… but…”

“She’s not asking for marriage, Jessica. Give her a proper reply. You know you lover, but what? What are you doing reading those fanfiction about you guys.”

Days had passed. Jessica and Tiffany’s relationship was still as cold. They didn’t talk and had no eye contact whatsoever. Although they were both professionals during performances, they didn’t let this get between them as singers and of course the group.

Jessica sighed because of the fanfiction she just finished reading. She asked Greenred to email New to her fake account. Why is it always Tiffany chasing after me?! I mean, thisJessica… person… character!

The only thing that Jessica was contented with was Fragile Love by xella08x and Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered by Pooltides where she was the one who actually confessed. Though she was still upset because in reality, she still couldn’t bring herself to confess to the person she was sure she loved.

Jessica refreshed her Soshified page and a message from xella08x popped up. The message was entitled Only Exception: 11:11 updated!

She then clicked on the link provided.

She read on the IM conversation between Jessica and Tiffany in the fanfiction. Yet again, Tiffany was the one who confessed to Jessica.

It irked Jessica to no end. She wanted to prove to herself, those authors who always made Tiffany confess, and to Tiffany especially that she could be the one confessing. Even if people view Jessica as the receiver, she could also be the one giving everything she had. While reading fanfictions about them, they made her realize that no matter how much she read, the real Hwang Tiffany was still incomparable. Why was she even sitting in her room, reading about Tiffany and her when the real thing was just there? Why even try to live the fake lives of those characters? There was no reason for her to delude herself any longer.

The more Jessica read about them, the more she compared her reality to fiction.

I have the real Hwang Tiffany right beside me... why do I want to protect those characters named Tiffany when I can protect the real one now? I can love her. I can tell her I love her.

Jessica heard some noise. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch. By the sound of it, she was sure that it was Sooyoung. “Why are you eating pork rinds so late anyway?”

Sooyoung looked at her, scowling and said, “Because it’s delicious.”

Jessica just rolled her eyes and ignored Sooyoung as she was busy eating and texting at the same time. It was a rare sight for Jessica to see Sooyoung multitasking. She usually just ate or texted but never both at the same time.

Being the silent reader that she was, Jessica left the thread after finishing the chapter. She checked the time, 11:11. She suddenly laughed.

Make a wish. She remembered Tiffany in Only Exception: 11:11.

Why wish when I could make it happen?

Jessica got out of the bed and headed for the door.

“Bathroom?” Sooyoung asked.

Jessica gave a smile and simply shook her head then headed out. There was a rush of confidence that caused Jessica to decide to face Tiffany. That she should take this opportunity to confront Tiffany. As soon as she held the metal knob and turned it, all those confidence she was feeling turned into huge butterflies in her stomach. It vanished just like that, twisting her organs into knots.

“Ti-Tiffany?” She stuttered as she called the latter.

There was no sign of the girl. But all her belongings were there. Her flat screen TV that was sponsored by Samsung, her mobile phone was on the pink sheeted bed. Above all, Jessica eyes were drawn to her laptop. The screen showed a familiar poster that she'd seen a couple of days ago.

It was the poster for the Forth Anniversary One Shot Contest. It was released a couple of days ago. She walked closer to her laptop, Google Chrome was open. Jessica could clearly see Tiffany’s bookmarks on the top of the web browser.

JeTi writers…? Jessica thought, But…

“What are you doing in my room!?” Jessica jolted up as she heard Tiffany bellow those words. It was as if Jessica was a stranger that barged in the room. The unfamiliarity she showed Jessica created an unknown feeling inside the petite brunette.

“Uhh…” Jessica couldn’t even find words to explain herself.

Tiffany rushed towards Jessica, reached for her laptop and shut the monitor hard. “Why are you here?!”

“I— ughh..”

“Don’t you know how to respect my privacy?!” Tiffany was scowling at her. “What are you doing here?” There was a trace of impatience in her tone since Jessica just remained silent.

“I thought you don’t read---“

“Did you look through my stuff?” Jessica remained mum; she couldn’t tell Tiffany that she was somewhat happy that she was reading about them. But the indifferent treatment saddened Jessica, making her forget the happiness she felt earlier. “Jessi!”

“I—It was there…”

“Since it was there, you simply decided to look through my stuff without permission? Wait, before that, you decided to parade in my room without permission.” Tiffany crossed her arms.

“I did knock.”

“Oooh, so since you knocked,” Tiffany raised her brow, “You should just walk in without any permission? Is that how you were raised Jessi?” There was a trace of mockery. “Why are you here? It’s almost midnight, go back to your room.”

Jessica didn’t want to go back to her room when she finally built the courage that was needed, but seeing Tiffany’s reaction now made all those vanish. “I---“ there was something unknown stuck in , blocking words she wanted to say.

“You…what?” Tiffany was waiting for a reply.

“I came here… to tell you...” Jessica trailed her words.

“Tell me…?”

Those butterflies in Jessica’s stomach controlled the better of her. “To tell you we have a schedule tomorrow.”

“Music Bank. I know.”

Jessica remained silent.

She wanted to run away from Tiffany but at the same time, she wanted to be there with her. Her undecided mind kept her feet glued to the floor.

“Is that all?”

Jessica gulped, “I like you.” Jessica mumbled the words. Jessica was aware that it only reached her ears.

“What did you say?”

There was no reply from Jessica.

“Jessi!”

“I like you!” The petite exclaimed.

“And?”

Jessica’s proclamation didn’t seem to have left Tiffany baffled. It was like she was totally over Jessica.
“Wha... what do you mean ‘and?’” Jessica paused to search for the right words, but Tiffany spoke first.

“Like, ‘and what?’”

The blonde tried to swallow saliva, and swallowing her pride along the process. She did want to confess her feelings, right? To the real Tiffany, right? So here was her chance so she should seize it. “You kept on invading my thoughts... it’s as if my mind was made to think of you...”

“So?”

Looking intently to Tiffany’s eyes, Jessica tried to deliver a message. To deliver her feelings. Or at least have this connection they once had. “I’m in love with you.”

“I know those lines. I’ve read a lot of fanfics on Soshified, Jessica.”

“But I do love you.” There was a trace of defeat in Jessica’s voice.

“How do you know?” Tiffany questioned.

“I just do.”

“How?” Tiffany asked again.

“I kept on thinking about you… I missed all our nights together... I hate seeing you with other people...”

“So you miss me? So you get jealous? Is that how you prove that you’re in love with someone?”

“I don’t know…”

“You don’t? Are you sure?”

“Well,” Jessica began. “I try to not care when you talk to people. It’s upsetting how others can freely hug you or you smile at them… then you don’t bother talking to me! I get jealous! I’m human, too!”

“You might think you love me but maybe it’s just jealousy, Jessica.” Tiffany nonchalantly sat on her bed.

“Tiffany,” Jessica took a step forward, causing Tiffany to look at her. “What do you want to hear from me?” She truly felt defeated. With her unwelcoming words crushing the only hope that was lit somewhere in Jessica’s heart. She walked there and told Tiffany what she was feeling, but all Tiffany did was mock her.

Tiffany laughed sarcastically, “What do I want to hear from you?” She asked Jessica but continued, “What did you come here for?”

“Nothing.” Jessica said and slowly walked towards the door as it was clear that she wasn’t wanted anymore.

“That’s the problem with you! You just walk away from the problem!” Tiffany slapped the bed in fury and then stood up. “Coward!”

Coward? If Tiffany called her that an hour ago, she would have agreed. But now? No! She was no coward! The blonde walked to Tiffany’s room to confess to her and she did. So to be called a coward now? Jessica simply snapped.

Scowling, Jessica looked back to face Tiffany. “I was here to tell you my feelings and I did. What did you do in return? Mock me! Question my motives!” Tiffany just looked Jessica in the eye as Jessica raised her voice, “I came here because I wanted to know if you still hold those feelings towards me. But what did you do? Instead of saying, ‘Sorry Jessica, you’re already late.’ No, you had to yell at me!”

“You’re the one yelling.” Tiffany rolled her eyes.

“Whatever!”

She snorted, “Still bossy.”

“Me?! Bossy?!” Jessica asked. “I came here to talk to you, Tiffany. To at least tell you my feelings. For once at least, I should tell you what I feel. Even… even if I’m too late.” Saying those words made her heart fall on the ground. To actually admit her lost verbally was something hard to do and accept.

“Are you stupid?” Tiffany asked.

“Yah! All you do is insult me. I get it! You don’t love me anymore! Just stop insulting me! I know I’m stupid!” She didn’t reply and just looked Jessica straight in the eye. “What else? Okay, I’m retarded, too! I’m a pabo!”

“You are stupid, retarded.” Tiffany rolled her eyes. “Pabo and stupid are one. Retard.”

Jessica shook her head, “you know what?” She took another step closer, “You’re the one who fell in love with this pabo!” Jessica felt witty when she said those words. As if she had the best comeback ever.

Tiffany laughed mockingly. “Falling in love with someone stupid doesn’t really make me stupid.” She nonchalantly answered and continued, “I think I made the wrong move.”

“If you really think so, then you did!” Jessica’s piercing tone would hurt any creature that had ears.

“Stop yelling...” Tiffany rubbed both of her ears.

“I’ll yell all I want! This is where I live!”

“This is my room.”

Jessica walked towards the door but a pull on her arm halted her from walking out. She looked on the hand that was holding her, “What? Didn’t have enough?”

She shook her head, “Nope,” and flashed a wide smile, “I didn’t know you were this slow. Your slow reaction makes you look so stupid,” followed by a giggle.

“So you really didn’t have enough. If it’ll make you happy, then insult me some more.”

“Why do I need to when you’re already doing that?”

Jessica yanked her hand back and faced the door; she was tired of Tiffany’s insults. She reached for the knob but Tiffany suddenly spoke, “I confessed to you, twenty-two days ago to be more precise. I told you how I felt. I knew it was sudden so I thought I should give you time but you...” She paused but Jessica’s back was still facing her. “Avoided me.” The sadness in her tone reached Jessica’s ears. There were no giggles or those mocking tone.

Jessica turned to look at her, “I... I just...”

Tiffany shook her head, “It’s okay. You don’t have to explain.”

“Yeah, it’s too late now…” Jessica looked down, at the same time her tone had gone lower.

“You’re just too slow, Jessi.”

“I get it.” Jessica nodded tiredly.

“No, you don’t. Do you really think my heart could waver in three weeks?” Tiffany asked rhetorically, “I’m clearly still in love with you. When I kept things inside, it pained me and then when I finally had the courage to confess to you, you avoided me."

“I’m sorry.” Jessica didn’t look up and kept her gaze on the ground.

“No, don’t apologize. It’s just your turtle reaction that made me wait long enough.” Tiffany said, smirking so proudly. “You’re just too slow.”

“YAH!” Jessica looked up, scowling at her. She finally noticed the smile on Tiffany’s face. It wasn’t one of those cutesy smiles that she used to lure people in. It was a genuine smile; something that Jessica used to see. Now that she thought about it, those kinds of smile were only flashed to her.

“You were so slow to realize that you’re in love with me.”

With her words, Jessica couldn’t help but smile at her too, “Cocky much?”

Tiffany nodded cutely, “Yes! Coz I’ve known that you’re in love with me, too.”

Jessica’s smile grew wider. “I don’t have those perfect words that all those Jessicas in those fanfictions say. I don’t have a grand gift. I don’t have anything but a simple...” She grabbed both of her hands, raising the right one and placing it over her chest, “I love you.”

“I know.”

“You’re too cocky… and mean, too!”

“Mean?” Tiffany raised her brow as if not guilty of Jessica’s accusations.

“You love me too, but you didn't say anything earlier other than throw insults at me.”

“I find it cute when you scream.” She shrugged and then pointed at her brow, “I love it when you scowl too.” Tiffany tried to mimic Jessica’s scowls. “Oh, and your pouts are soo cute that it makes me want to be mean to you.”

It was still a wonder on how this world worked its magic. Jessica still didn’t know why she loved Tiffany. How someone so cocky and mean could be the person she treasured so dearly. But she knew that Tiffany was just playing around. The girl had a huge heart; she was a loving person, who also cared for everyone around her.

They were complete opposites from each other. Jessica was not the bubbly girl, she was too serious, she liked being alone to read stories; while Tiffany was the girl who interacted with everyone around her, who would flash her smiles at her fans. It was truly a mystery to why she fell for such a girl, and how this girl fell for her. She would probably ask Tiffany every single day about these reasons. Well, they would simply have to find out sooner or later… after all, they still had a lifetime to go.

“I love you.” They both said at the same time. It was like a duet that was harmoniously in sync, like a melody that was made to be sung by two. Words that just spelled I love you.
