The street was quiet as a group of college students made their way home after a night partying, unaware they were being followed; joyful and oblivious they were thoroughly enjoying the chilly weather.
"Bonfire, booze, and beautiful girls could there possibly be a better way to spend an evening?" Himchan swayed his cheeks flushed as he cackled hanging on Daehyun to support his weight.
"Go home Himchan you are drunk." Yong Guk mocked playfully.
"I'm not drunk, I am just a lil' buzzed." His lopsided grin sent them all into another fit of laughter and the conversation picked up again.
Speeding up a bit Yong Guk tapped Chaerin on the shoulder. "Yeah?"
"This Saturday meet me at the river I have a surprise for you." He was grinning from ear to ear, eyes bright with amusement.
"You know I hate surprises! Just tell me!" She whined.
"I'm not gonna spoil your birthday gift, just don't forget."
Before she could argue Dara leaned against his side gripping his arm affectionately as they walked, he smiled warmly at her before continuing to banter with his male companions.
Chaerin winked at her mouthing "Tell him NOW!" and started chatting up Minzy.
"Yong Guk?"
"Huh?" He turned looking down at her curiously.
"I wanted to tell you something."
"Okay what is it?" He waited patiently as she nervously chewed her bottom lip.
"I wanted to tell you that I..."
"You what?"
Determined she steeled herself staring up at him, "I wanted to tell you that I lo-"
"Hey guys!" Jong Up interrupted nodding towards a lone car slowly pulling up alongside the street.
They paused as it neared and the rear window rolled down; Young Guk’s eyes widened in horror as he recognized the metallic gleam of the rifle.
"GET DOWN!!!" He bellowed knocking the three girls to the ground as they were trapped by a hail of bullets.
Deafening gunfire bombarded the buildings raining glass down on them and suddenly it stopped tires screeched as the car peeled away they laid trembling on the ground.
"STAY DOWN!!!" Young Guk roared before any could think to make a move.
"Yong Guk you're bleeding." Dara whispered her trembling hands soaked with blood from his back; he lay on top of her facing away.
"I know," He replied thickly. "Are you hurt?"
"No."
"Chaerin! Chaerin Wake-Up! Minzy check her-is she breathing?" She could not hear Minzy's reply but she knew she was fine when his body relaxed.
Hearing the pained moans of her friends unable to help pinned beneath him she felt sick.
He did not speak for a long moment his breathing was shallow very faintly she could hear sirens; his blood was soaking through her clothes she could feel it pooling beneath her as he laid eerily still above her.
Suddenly, he shifted his body trembling as he lifted his head slightly before collapsing once more coughing in attempt to clear his lungs he finally spoke.
"I love you."
Her eyes widened and tears flooded down her cheeks; desperately she tried to see his face, his body went slack and all his weight pressed down on her she could not move.
Chaerin's piercing shriek confirmed her fears.
Yong Guk was dead.
