New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve

Your POV

I slowly opened my eyes and I quickly closed it back as the sunlight filled the room. The curtains were opened. I groaned and looked at beside me. He's gone.

Wait, let me fix that.

Of course he's gone.

I sat up and walked to the refrigerator to get some drink. And there it is. A note from him, saying that he went to the YG building first. Why didn't he wake me up?

There's always this two reasons from him.

First, 'I was in a hurry, sorry I didn't wake you up' or what I like to translate as 'I cared about my work so much that I didn't wake you up.'

Second, 'You looked very tired, sorry I left first.' or in other words, 'I forgot you were there, sorry I left first.'

I sighed. It's been a week in a row. The last time I saw him was at christmas eve and christmas morning. After that? Who knows where he's going. Sometimes I met him at the building, but it always ended up like this: First, he will apologize for leaving first. Then I'd ignore him and tried to avoid him all day.

"You should forgive him once, give him a chance" once Chaerin said. But hey, I have the genes of my dad's. I don't give in that easily. And this is not the first time he did it. He showed up in the morning of our 4th month anniversary, saying that he arranged a dinner for both of us.

And don't remind me who didn't show up.

"Give him a break, _____ ah. You know how famous your boyfriend is." Yes, I've been trying to do so for the past weeks. I sighed and opened the refrigerator. I took out last night's pizza and ate it as brunch. I looked at my phone, and there you go. 15 missed calls from him. I looked at the calendar. 31st December. New Year's Eve. He's probably out there preparing for tonight's music festival.

Whatever.

Beep beep.

The phone rang. It was from him.

"Yeoboseyo? _____ ah I'm sorry I have to leave first. I was in a hurry, Yang sajangnim called me. I'm sorry I promise I'll--"

"You know what, Seunghyun, don't even bother to promise me anything if you'll just end up not showing up when I'm waiting for you. First our Anniversary, and now this. I guess I'm grateful enough that you showed up in my birthday. Even if you leave as soon as it's midnight."

"_____ ah, you know how busy I am..."

"Yeah I know. I know it better than you." I hung up. I sighed and ran my hands through my bangs. I'm tired of listening his excuses. I know I should be more understanding, but this... This is starting to get on my nerves. I sighed and walked inside my room. I threw myself to bed and realized my eyes were starting to become warmer.

I slowly opened my eyes and looked at the clock. 3 pm. 5 hours of sleep. I sat up and winced as my head started to ache from the sudden movement. I slowly walked to the bathroom and took a quick shower. I hung my bag on my shoulder and put on my shoes.

Time to get some fresh air.

I walked through the streets, I must say I'm quite impressed. Stalls were everywhere and many people were flooding the streets. I wondered around the stalls and chuckled to myself. Suddenly, my phone vibrated.

Seunghyun.

I ignored it and put it back on my bag. Suddenly I hit something-- no, someone. I groaned as I fell to the ground.

"Yah! Watch it!"

"Sorry! I'm so sorry!" He stood up and offered his hand. I took his hand and he helped me stand. I took a good look at him, he was a boy, age 13-14.

"You're okay?"

"I'm fine. What were you doing anyway?" I scolded him.

"You don't need to get angry, ahjumma. I'm lost and my phone's dead. I've been looking for my parents, for your information."

"Yah! What did you just address me?"

"So, ahjumma, can I borrow your phone?" He smirked.

What is wrong with this kid? I mean like, seriously. But there was something inside me, telling me to trust him. I sighed and decided to follow my instincts.

"I'm only 23, for your information," I said, imitating his way of talking in annoyance. "Fine." I took out my phone and gave it to him. He unlocked it,

"Wow, ahjumma. You've got 17 missed calls." he blinked in surprise.

"Do you want to use it or not?" I said in annoyance. He just nodded and called his parents. Five seconds, ten seconds, he returned it to me.

"What's wrong?"

"They didn't pick up." he sighed, "Oh well, thanks for lending it, ahjumma" he said as he walked away. I grabbed his hand, preventing him to go any further.

"Yah, it's noona to you." I paused, "and I'll help you find your parents." He blinked in surprise.

"Seriously? Thank you so much ahjumma!"

"Yah, kids nowadays just don't have any manners, do they? Talking informally and all that.... It's noona, not ahjumma" I slightly hit his head. He laughed,

"I'm Choi Hyunjin." He offered his hand for a hand shake. I shook his hand,

"Park _____." I smiled and so he did.

"Let's go then" I said as we walked through the stalls.

"So? How did you get lost, Hyunjin ah?" I asked as I ate the cotton candy Hyunjin bought. We were only going around the stalls, eating and fooling around.

"I lied, okay? I ran away. Appa and umma 'discussed' a lot. I'm fed up with them." He paused, "I tried to go back but now I'm lost." I sighed and gently hit his head.

"Yah, your appa and umma must be dying now."

"Yeah, right. Appa is always busy. I think he forgot that there's me." I stopped walking.

"Don't say that, Hyunjin ah. He's still your appa." I stared to his eyes. He just sighed and shrugged. I groaned as my phone's sudden vibration. He raised his eyebrow as I took out my phone.

"That guy again? Is he your boyfriend?" I hesitated.

"Yeah. He's like your appa, he's always busy."

"Answer it! At least he still calls you." He folded his arms.

"He's been giving me this excuses. And let me tell you, Hyunjin ah, women don't like that attitude."

"Well I think you should give him a chance. Umma and appa always fight but they always make up after that." I just sighed and did as he told.

"Yeoboseyo" I said in annoyance.

"_____ ah. I'm sorry."

"I don't need to hear--"

"Just listen to me. I'll be home at midnight. I promise." he said sternly.

"You know what, Seunghyun, I'm...tired of your promises. You--"

"I'll definitely come. I'll definitely come and regain your trust." I just sighed.

Maybe Chaerin and Hyunjin are right.

Maybe I should give him a chance.

"Fine." I sighed. I didn't see him but I knew he was smiling.

"See you later, Jagiya" I hung up and smiled. A part of me just missed him so bad, while my other part hated him.

"How did it go?"

"He said he'll be home by midnight. I won't expect him to come, though" Hyunjin laughed and took my hand.

"Midnight, right? Come on! We have to find my parents now before midnight!" I laughed and followed him as we ran through the streets.

We panted and sat down at the bench. Both of us were trying to catch our breaths, as we had been running around the festival but there's no luck. We had also tried the information booth, but we still hadn't found them.

I looked at my watch and sighed. 11 pm.

"Ahjumma, just leave. That ahjussi must be waiting."

"No, I'm helping you first. How did they look like, again?"

"Appa is really handsome for his age, black sweater and jeans. Actually he has the same name as your boyfriend. Umma, blue dress, and cardigan."

"Really? Should we--"

"Appa!" He exclaimed. I looked at where he pointed but I didn't see them.

"Ahjumma gomawo! Thank you very much!" He suddenly hugged me.

My heart skipped a beat. He felt very familiar. He felt like Seunghyun. My tears fell to my cheeks. I had no idea that I missed this feeling.

"Thanks, noona. It was nice knowing you." He smiled and ran to the crowd.

'His smile, his hug.... He even said his father is also Choi Seunghyun....' I brushed off the thought and wiped my tears.

'No way, right?' I sighed and ran home. Damn it. Why are the roads closed now? I took off my shoes and ran bare-footed to home.

I tried to catch my breath and held my aching foot. I fell to my knees as soon as I entered my apartment. Everything was still dark, only the TV was on.

The same condition as I left.

He broke his promise again.

I knew I shouldn't be expecting him, but I couldn't hold it much longer. Damn it! Why did he do this to me?

I was stupid to trust him.

I was stupid to run all the way from that park.

I was stupid to hope he'll really come.

I was crying my heart out when he suddenly sent me a message. I hesitantly opened it.

'I'll be waiting for you at the balcony.' Great. Choi Seunghyun has this way to make me feel like an idiot. I wiped my tears and slowly walked to the balcony, due to my ached foot. I opened the door and saw him at the balcony. He turned to me and smiled. He walked to me and wiped my tears.

"Don't cry. I told you I'd come, right?"

"You jerk." I pouted and he chuckled,

"I'm your jerk" he smiled.

"_____ ah... I've been thinking about this lately" his eyes were staring at mine. His eyes were intense as usual, but this time, it felt...warm. His stare was warm and clouded by tears.

"What is it?" I hesitantly asked

"_____ ah... I've been very busy lately, and I.... I don't think I can...." he hesitated. My heart skipped a beat. Was he going to end this?

After all we've been through?

"Seunghyun, I--"

"Please. Let me finish." he said sternly. I slowly nodded.

"I....don't think I can live without you. All of this hectic schedules...made me realize that I just can't take it anymore. I want to be in your life...forever." he took out a small box from his pocket.

"Will you marry me?" My eyes widened in surprise.

"Seunghyun...." I could feel my eyes were getting wet.

"Yes. I will." He smiled and placed the ring on my right ring finger. He immediately hugged me and whispered,

"I love you." Sounds of cheers from the people downstairs and the fireworks filled in the silence between us.

"I love you too" he brought my lips to his. He put his hands around my waist and I put mine around his neck. I closed my eyes.

"Five.... Four..." The crowd started counting. We didn't care. We could stay like this forever.

"Three... Two... One..." The crowd cheered. The fireworks were bigger then before. We parted, both of us were longing for air. He rested his forehead in mine,

"Happy New Year, _____ ah." He smiled,

"Happy New Year, Seunghyun" I kissed his lips and smiled.

2013, a new year, a new start.

Epilogue

"Umma, I met a noona earlier" Hyunjin said as he held both of his parents' hand.

"Aigoo, our Hyunjin is after noonas now?" His mother smirked.

"I bet your mother is prettier" His father laughed as his wife hit him in the arm.

"I think she sort of resemble you, umma....."

"Really? Did you hear that, _____ ah? She maybe prettier than you"

"Seunghyun!" she laughed and pinched his cheeks. Hyunjin laughed with his parents as they walked back home.
