A Kind Heart

I Have a Dream

Jonghyun's POV:

I decided to ditch my first class of the day which was music. I know, I know, what kind of student would I be if I skiped class; especially because I'm homeless and it would come off as ungrateful that I actually got into this school for free and I have this kind of attitude. But my professor was not present and if we had a sub we would not learn anything, so I decided to ditch.

I was playing a new song that I wrote when I felt a presence. It was as if someone was watching me. I looked up from my guitar and looked around; I saw no one. Creepy. As I went back to playing, I could still feel the presence. So being the tricky person I was, I looked up right away so the person wouldn't have time to hide. As I looked up I saw a girl straight ahead of me. She was wearing a long brown skirt and a white tank top; she looked familiar. She was closing her eyes and swaying a bit, either she was mesmerized by my song or she was high. Either way she looked funny and kind of cute. I smirked.

I guess she noticed that I had stopped playing and came back to her senses. She slowly opened one eye and looked at me. When she saw that I was staring she opened both eyes and started panicking. She was scratching her head probably thinking where to go. She was walking left and right and biting her lip. I found it so cute how she was embarrassed. Finally, she stopped doing what she was doing, probably becuase she knew it made her look even more stupid, smoothed out her skirt, took one last look at me, who was staring at her this whole time, gave out an awkward-/I'm-sorry laugh, and walked away. I smiled to myself. I couldn't help it she's so cute.

Woah that's new. I smiled. Huh, ok.

He Ran's POV:

While listening to the guy--let's just call him hobo. I mean no offense to him but he is one, not to mention a handsome one. Anyways, while I was listening to him playing and singing, I couldn't help but feel immersed into the song I was so mesmerized. His song was so beautiful. The melody was so captivating and the lyrics flowed out nicely. I couldn't relate to his song, however, it was like I could feel his pain. After a little while, I noticed that the music had stopped. My first reaction was to quickly hide before he could see me because that would be embarrassing and stalkerish. I dashed off behind a nearby tree and hid. When I heard him playing again, I took a peek and saw he was concentrated on his song. I came out of hiding and went back to my original position and was mesmerized all over again.

I was too busy feeling the song that I didn't notice it had stopped. 'Oh no', I thought. I opened one eye and regretted it once I saw why the music had stopped. He was staring at me. No, more like studying me. I immediately came back to my senses and frantically started to walk left and right. At that moment, I forgot everything and all my surroundings. I scratched my head and bit my lip which was a habit I had whenever I was nervous or embarrased. I decided to stop because I probably looked like an idiot. I stopped in his direction, took a deep breath, smoothed my skirt, and gave out an awkward laugh. Then I walked away.

While walking away, I repeatedly hit my head. 'pabo' I thought. Ugh, talk about awkward.

After school, I went directly to the cafe. Once I had clocked in, I tied my hair up into a loose ponytail, put my apron on, fixed my name tag, and went straight to the sink. Yes, I am a busboy-well girl. I'm not really embarrased by it though, I mean it is a paying job and how else am I supposed to pay the other half of my bills? I mean my boss does let me do other things once in a while, like serve, brew coffee, work at the cashier, and other stuff. But I'm ok with whatever, really.

When it was my break, I went straight to an empty table and put my head down. Boy, was I tired. You see, this cafe is located in Myeong-dong, Korea's shopping center and tourist spot. Which meant, lots of people come in everyday. Lots of people=lots of dishes=lots of money. Which is what I thought most of the time so it would get me through no matter how tired I was. I was about to doze off when I heard a clanking sound next to me. I looked up, it was Chelsea she had placed a cup of hot coffee, I believe, next to me.

Chelsea was my co-worker here at the cafe. She worked as a barista but was placed at the cashier most of the time because of our boss. But who could blame him? Chelsea was nice, friendly, had a pretty smile, she's pretty, bubbly, and always positive. She was like a little sister to me even though we're the same age. But more than anything, Chelsea's my best friend. She grew up in America but came back to Korea 4 years ago. Her parents are rich too so thats how we met; she's the only one who knows about my secret. She works at the cafe because she says she's here to support me but I know it's really beacuse her dream is to become a professional barista. Her parents agreed to let her work here because they think it'll give her a head start and experience in business. Although, it was obvious she wasn't interested. I sometimes get jealous of Chelsea beacuse her parents actually respect her dream, unlike mine. They think a singing career would be a waste of time.

"Here. You look tired." she said as she took the seat next to me.

I sat up. "I don't really feel like coffee." I said as I cringed and pushed the cup away.

She smacked my hand and pushed the cup back to me. "Try it. It's my latest recipe."

"First of all, Ow!" I said as she giggled and stuck her toungue out. "Second, Chels, you know that boss doesn't like it when you play around with the equipment."

She pouted. "But Kat! You know that I dont just 'play around' with the equipment! Even you know that I make good coffee!" she claimed while making quotes in the air on the words 'playing around'.

"I know, but we BOTH could get fired and you know I can't afford to lose this job. And will you please stop calling me Kat? That was so junior year!" I said.

"Actually, you can afford to lose your job your parents are freaking rich--"

"Shhh! Shut up! Don't you know what a secret is?" I told her as I covered and looked around if anyone saw. Luckily no one did.

She rolled her eyes and took my hand off . "Whatever. My lips are sealed." She said as she made a zip-my-lips-and-throw-the-key-away type motion. "And no I will not stop calling you Kat! That is my nickname for you!" I glared at her. "I'm sorry but i seriuosly thought you looked like Kat from this American show I used to watch! Your fault for dying your hair red." She said in between laugs.

Ugh. the nerve. Yes, I used to have red hair, well sorry if I liked to experiment back in high school!

After her laughter died down, she begged me to try her new creation. I hesitated but with her aegyo and my drowsiness, I knew I had to. I took one sip and I was mind blown.

"OMG! CHELS! THIS IS AMAZING! It's better than last week's! It's better than Starbucks! It's better than life! And Starbucks is life." I gaped as I took more sips.

She just stared at me for a moment I thought she was going to laugh but she surprised me when she got up and hugged me. "This is why you're my best friend." She whispered. I was still holding the cup so the hug didn't last long.

I couldn't help but smile. My bestfriend is so sweet." Chelsea Park, you are simply amazing." I said with my whole heart. I put the cup down, which was almost finished, and gave her a big hug. After a while, she pulled away from the hug, she had tears in her eyes.

"Chels, what's wrong?'' I asked, worried.

"It's just I was mom and dad were here to see."

"Aw Chels, don't worry they will eventually." I said pulling her back into a hug and smoothing her hair.

"Kat, you have such a kind heart." I was touched.

Once she pulled away, she was laughing. Bipolar much?

"Uh Chels? Wae buso? (why are you laughing?)" I asked.

"Ani(no) it's just you acted like a valley girl earlier. Especially when you mentioned Starbucks you looked like a white girl." She laughed as she wiped a tear away. Here we go. There's the teasing I was expecting!

"What? no!" I protested.

"Haha yes! 'Omg Chels! It's better than Starbucks! It's better than life! And Starbucks is life!" She said while mimicking me! Ugh. And when I thought she was sweet'ol Chelsea she comes back and insults me.

"Whatever. Come on. Break's over." I said as I got up and brought the empty cup with me. Chelsea followed right after.

Jonghyun's POV:

After school, I decided to find another place to crash because obviosuly I coudn't go back to Mr. Baker's anymore. Speaking of, I finally realized who the girl from school was. She was the girl that had confronted me at the restarant. Small world, right? I wonder what her major was. After wondering around, I found myslef in Myeong-dong. I brought my guitar so I decided to earn some money before finding a place to sleep. I found a sopt near a cafe and a book store and saw that there were many people so I sat down on the floor in between the cafe and the book store. I got set up and started playing some songs. After a few hours, I saw that I had made 5,000 won. Yay. But who am I to complain? I put the money in my pocket and started playing my new song that I had played at school earlier.

He Ran's POV:

When my shift was over, I checked to make sure everything was clean and when I saw that it was, I clocked out. Chelsea's shift ends at 5 so I always go home alone. When I locked up the doors, I heard a familar sound. I looked to my left and realized it was the guy from school. He was performing in front of a crowd. Ok, well maybe like three people. But they do say three's a crowd. I became the fourth person in that crowd. I waited until he finished playing. He ended beautifully then looked up and said, "Gamsamnida(Thank you, formally) everyone. This is my first time performing this song." First time, huh? I felt kind of giddy beacuse that meant that I was the first person to hear it.

I dont think he saw me beacuse I was stading behind a rather tall man. When the crowd had dispersed, I was left there staniding in front of him and looking at him while smiling.

"That was a beautiful song." I said as I smiled. Because it was true. I then reached into my purse and pulled out 10,000 won. I bent down and put it in his case. When I looked up at him, his face was hilarious! He looked confused. I bit my toungue to hold down my laughter. "Here." I said then stood up.

"Good night" I said before walking away. A street performer huh? I thought as I smiled.

Jonghyun's POV:

After I finished my song, and said a few words, the crowd started to disperse. I looked up from the money they threw in and noticed the girl from school looking at me. Deja vu much?
"That was a beautiful song." She said.

I didn't say anything.

She reached into her purse and pulled out 10,000 won. She bent down and tossed it into my case.

"Here." she said.

I still didn't say anything.

She stood up and bid me goodnight before walking away. Good night? 10,000? This girl was so nice! he had manners and was considerate! I looked up hoping she was still in ear shot and I could say thank you, but just like that, she got lost in the crowd.

That girl...she has such...a...such a....kind heart.
