Moving Day

8finite: Part 4 Woohyun's Story

“Woohyun please just relax she said she would move in today,” Julia assured him as she pushed him into a sitting position in the main room. He still wasn’t comfortable with her touching him, but from watching them he saw that she touched them all… a lot.

“I can’t relax with eight weird people staring at me,” Woohyun nearly shouted. He was so exhausted with them all. They were so clingy and odd. Some of them looked at him with bright fake smiles and the others just looked at him sadly like he was dying… or mental. It really made him angry.

He had only been in the house for five minutes and he missed the hospital. When is Sunny going to get here? I need her.

“Hyung do you want to watch our music videos,” the pretty boy offered brightly as he went to the television.

“We have all of our appearances on shows recorded too,” A tall guy offered.

“Alright everyone settle down,” Julia said loudly. They all shut up right away. Woohyun looked her up and down. She wasn’t very intimidating looking, but they all looked to her and waited on bended knee to listen to what she had to say. Even the grumpy Sunggyu one was waiting to hear what she said.

“Are you okay sweety?” she said looking down at him from where he sat on the floor. There she goes again treating me like a dumb child. He was really losing his patience.

“Don’t call me sweety, you annoying woman,” he said a little vehemently. That got a reaction from everyone. It was as if he just kicked an innocent animal.

“Woohyun, since when are you so disrespectful,” a guy with thick eyebrows and equally thick muscles asked him hotly.

“He actually was a little more like this when I first met him,” Sunggyu said as he scratched the back of his head. “I didn’t care for him much then either.”

“Sunggyu,” Julia shouted as she hit him. This wasn’t a playful hit either. They all heard the sound her hand made as it slapped on his bare arm. Sunggyu gave her a stern look before turning and disappearing into a bedroom.

Something about that made him like the one called Sunggyu more. He wasn’t sure why though. He just said he didn’t like me. At least he’s honest.

Julia shook her agitation out of her body. She looked a little regretful for hitting him when she turned back to Woohyun and smiled.

“We want Woohyun to be comfortable so let’s give him a moment to settle. How about everyone introduces themselves. Woohyun you know me, I’m Julia or you can call me noona,” she said with a smile. Her smile was pretty, but he could only scowl.

“I’m Dongwoo and I’m in charge of rap,” the guy with the big goofy grin said with a hip hop flourish. Woohyun tried not to crack a smile.

“I’m Hoya and I’m also in charge of rap,” the guy with the muscles said with a more serious expression.

“I’m Julia’s cousin and also Hoya’s girlfriend. My name is Shelly,” the y red headed girl said with a little bow. “I’m not in your band. Just so you know.”

“But she is part of this family now,” Hoya said as he grabbed her hand. She blushed as red as her hair. These people are so strange how could I forget them?

“I’m Sungjong,” the pretty boy offered brightly. “I’m the maknae.”

“I’m Myungsoo,” the ridiculously handsome guy said. “I’m the visual in our group. I just want to mention now that Sungjong and I are a couple. Just so you don’t get weirded out or anything.”

Woohyun’s eyes widened a little as the two of them suddenly decided to hold hands.

“Fine by me,” Woohyun tried to say politely despite his sour mood. He couldn’t help but wonder if they had a difficult time being gay and being idols at the same time. He felt himself getting anxious for them. He stopped feeling anxious when the last guy introduced himself.

“Hi my name is Sungyeol,” the tall one said brightly.

“You are Sungyeol,” Woohyun questioned in a venomous tone. He had heard that name before. Sunny had mentioned him. She used to like him before she fell for Woohyun.

“What? Do you remember me?” Everyone looked excited for a second, but then Woohyun stood up and got in Sungyeol’s face.

“You better stay away from my girlfriend,” he warned. The taller boy’s eyes widened in shock.

“I haven’t even met her Woohyun. You have nothing to worry about it,” he said with his arms up in surrender.

Woohyun nodded to himself and backed off. What am I worried about? She loves me. She doesn’t care about this gangly goof.

He was about to sit back down on the floor when there was a knock at the door.

“Hello,” she said brightly. “My name is Sunny and I would like to thank you for allowing me to stay in your home. I promise to-”

Sunny was cut off from introducing herself to Sungjong and L as they were pushed to the side and she was suddenly being embraced.

Her heart that was already beating rapidly from her overbearing nerves was now beating in double time as Woohyun hugged her to his firm chest. He hugged her like she was a long lost love that he hadn’t seen in years.

She had been worried about how awkward this whole situation would be for her. She hadn’t realized it would be this bad. The hug was the most meaningful one she had ever received, yet at the same time it was also the most meaningless.

He doesn’t even know me. He just thinks he does. And I don’t know him. I just think I do because I’ve seen him on television so much. We are strangers hugging like lovers.

When he finally let her go she tried to control her expression. He held her back to look in her face. She didn’t even have to try to put on a smile, though. He was beaming at her so brightly that she couldn’t help but smile back. Just like the fool I am.

Her smile was wiped off of her face when he leaned in to kiss her. She turned fast enough that the kiss landed on her cheek. She felt herself flush under his pillowy lips. Woohyun’s lips just touched me, she thought with astonishment. Normally, this would probably be the best day of her life, but it was all so wrong.

“What’s wrong jagiya?” He asked with pure concern for her. No one had ever called Sunny jagiya before. He really does think I’m his girlfriend.

It’s not that she hadn’t believed them when they told her, but she still couldn’t help but be surprised.

“Nothing,” she said quickly. “You must just not remember Woohyun. We haven’t known each other for very long.” Sunny really hated lying so she tried to speak to him vaguely.

“Oh,” he said with a confused look. “Yeah I guess I’m not sure how long it’s been. Feels like we’ve been together forever though,” he added with a grin as he took her hand.

“Woohyun why don’t you let Sunny get comfortable,” Julia offered from the end of the hall. They were still standing in the apartment entryway.

Woohyun led Sunny into the apartment by her hand. He seemed reluctant to let go of her even for a second. He began showing her to each room even though he didn’t know who each room belonged to. Julia followed them and filled Sunny in.

“Sunny I’ve asked Sungjong if he wouldn’t mind sharing a bed so that you can use his. This way you are rooming with my cousin Shelly,” she said as she pointed to the red headed girl in the main room that watched them with curious green eyes. When she was mentioned she smiled and waved. She seemed nice, but she was so y Sunny actually found her kind of intimidating.

“I don’t want to take anyone’s bed,” Sunny insisted with wide eyes. I’m taking Lee Sungjong’s bed from him.

“He always ends up asleep in my bed anyway,” L said with a smirk that could melt any fan’s heart.

“You sleep in the same bed?”

“Oh yeah,” he said to himself and scratched his head. “Sorry can I ask you to keep this a secret?” He waited for her nod before he revealed to her that they were boyfriends.

“I knew it,” she exclaimed without thinking. “I knew you two were in love. I could tell from all the pictures and gifs I’ve seen online from the way you two look at each other.”

Everyone was silent as they stared at her. She was suddenly extremely embarrassed. Luckily, they just laughed.

“Isn’t she the best,” Woohyun asked the room of people as he led her to his new room. Apparently he used to room with Sunggyu and Julia, but since they were married he had been moved to Hoya and Dongwoo’s room. Sunny tried not to blush as she instantly pictured Julia and Sunggyu having . Julia was blushing too.

L was looking between their blushing faces before he laughed. “I totally get it now.”

Dongwoo laughed loudly. “That’s exactly what I said. Don’t they almost look like sisters or something?”

“They don’t look alike at all,” Sungjong said with a frown. Sunny looked to Julia as she covered her face and let out a heavy sigh. Sunny was thoroughly confused as to why she kept getting compared to Julia.

They didn’t look alike at all. Julia was a goddess. Her long wavy hair, big brown eyes, and pouty lips were that of a model’s. Sunny was always told she was cute, but she didn’t see it. Her hair was short and flat, her smaller eyes hidden by glasses, her cheeks chunky almost like a baby’s.

“I’ll explain it to you later Jongie,” Myungsoo shook his head with a smile.

Woohyun ignored all that was happening around him and just watched Sunny’s face. She met his eyes and felt her heart flutter. He touched her hair with a faraway look on his face before they led her to the main room.

Woohyun may not have cared that the others were watching them, but Sunny couldn’t ignore their eyes. She wasn’t sure whether she felt comforted or uneasy. They were concerned for him, but they seemed concerned for her too. Julia especially looked at her with sympathetic eyes.

“So Sunny,” Julia said to break the awkward silence as they all got comfortable. “Why don’t you tell us about yourself.”

“Oh I’m not very interesting,” she insisted with a shake of the head.

“Yes you are. You’re brilliant,” Woohyun said softly. His eyes were suddenly very serious. His look reminded her of when he looked at her at the bus stop.

“What does he even know about her,” she heard the red headed girl ask Hoya quietly. She didn’t sound judgmental. She sounded curious.

Woohyun heard her and broke his gaze with Sunny.

“I know a lot about her,” he said hotly as he looked at the other faces in the room. “She loves colors. All sorts of colors not just one or two. She is studying accounting even though she isn’t very good at math. But what she really loves is art and that she is very talented at. She eats her lunch out of paper bags and likes karaoke. Her birthday is in June and she will be turning 20. And most importantly I know she cares about me. She cares when I’m happy and when I’m sad and I care about her too.”

Sunny’s jaw had dropped in astonishment. Everyone looked at the two of them silently.

“Is that all true,” Julia asked Sunny.

“Y-yes,” she confirmed, but even she didn’t know how he knew all of that. Did he really figure all of that out just from meeting me once?

“Do you all believe me now that she is my girlfriend? I would think that being my friends you would have more faith in me,” he said dryly. It didn’t sound like he actually cared what they thought of him. He doesn’t care about them at all, she thought sadly.

“We do have faith in you Woohyun. And we all love you,” Julia said sadly. She looked guilty all of a sudden.

Woohyun looked in her face and seemed to calm down before turning back to Sunny with a smile.

“They can be a little bothersome because of my accident, but you let me know if they give you a hard time,” he said softly as he put his hand on her head and ran his fingers down her hair. The sensation sent a shiver through her body.

“Don’t worry Woohyun. They all seem very nice to me,” she said in her brightest tone.

“Yeah their alright I guess,” he said a little glumly.

Sunny looked around and saw how everyone’s faces slightly lit up from just that little shred of acceptance he had given them. If that cheers them up this situation is worse than I thought.

It wasn’t a lot, but it seemed Julia’s plan to get him to accept them was working.

She couldn’t believe she had hit him like that. She hit him all the time, but it was always in a joking manner. This wasn’t joking. She was mad because of what he said to Woohyun so she turned and hit him in the arm in front of everyone.

She was distracted the rest of the day. She had been interested in how things would go with Sunny but she couldn’t stop thinking about Sunggyu. He never came back out of their room. There was so much craziness going on in this house she had to focus on fixing it. But all she could think about was him. He was already hurting so much and she just hurt him more.

Everyone had finally gone off to bed and it was time for her to go to bed too. Her bed that she shared with Sunggyu.

She opened the door and found the room completely dark. In the moonlight from the window she could make out Sunggyu’s form lying on the bed. He was just staring up at the ceiling. It was the saddest she had ever seen him.

“Sunggyu,” she called softly. He just kept staring.

She crawled onto the bed. It was the same bed from their honeymoon. Sunggyu insisted on buying the mattress and bringing it home. At first she thought it was a weird impulse decision he made, but he later told her that he had paid for them to put a new mattress in the room weeks before.

At first she thought it was totally weird and she had laughed at him, but then she realized how sweet it actually was. It was the bed that they made love on for the first time. It was new and unused and now it was theirs to start a fresh new married life with. But with all the craziness in the house they hadn’t used it much since.

“Sunggyu, I’m sorry,” she said sincerely as she sat beside his still form. He was so still she would be worried he was dead or something if she couldn’t see his chest moving up and down evenly.

She waited for him to speak, but he just continued staring at the ceiling.

“Sunggyu,” she whined. Her eyes were filling with tears now. All the stress from the past few days was threatening to break down all the strength she had built up. “Please Sunggyu talk to me. I’m sorry I hit you like that. I’m not myself lately. I don’t know how to fix any of this. I don’t know if I can fix him. He seemed a little better today, but I don’t know what is going to happen. I’m trying my best to get him back for you. For all of us. But I can’t do this alone. I need you. You can’t leave me too.”

She realized she sounded ridiculous as she sat on the bed and cried like a child. Sunggyu had clenched his eyes painfully as she blubbered on. By the end she was nearly in hysterics and she watched as a tear slid down his own cheek before he finally moved.

She started sobbing as he grabbed her under her arms and pulled her on top of him. She put her full weight on him. Her arms laced behind his head and she rested her face in his neck as she continued to cry. But she already felt better and her tears slowed.

His arms wrapped around her back and he held her so tight it hurt, but she said nothing. She really didn’t mind.

“He left us,” Sunggyu cried into her ear. She had never heard him like this. “He doesn’t want to remember us.”

“He’ll come back,” she assured him. She wasn’t confident of it at all, but there was no other option. He had to come back.

“Promise me you won’t leave me,” he said as he pulled her face back to look into her eyes. He looked almost crazed. His thumbs moved over her tear stained cheeks with more pressure than usual. His chest was moving up and down hard as he tried to control himself.

“I would never leave you,” she said firmly. He didn’t look comforted.

“Promise me,” he insisted. His pleading tone hurt her.

“I promise on my life Sunggyu that I will never leave you,” she said seriously. She stared him right in the eyes. She saw them slowly soften. His thumbs stopped pressing into her cheeks and he seemed to come back to himself.

He held her to him gently now and let out a shaky breath that her whole body moved with. She rolled off of him as he made feeble attempts to stop her. She shushed him as she pulled their covers off the bed and undressed them both.

When they were both just down to their underwear she pulled their blankets over their bodies and pulled Sunggyu to her. She clung onto his back like a koala bear and pressed him into her chest. She threw her leg over his body and rested her face on the side of his.

She pulled his arm up so she could kiss the place she hit him softly before bringing her face back to his and rubbing her nose over his cheek. He closed his eyes and finally seemed to relax.

She was awake for a long time thinking about what craziness tomorrow would bring. She was hopeful that with Sunny there Woohyun would improve. But why was she worried more about Sunggyu?
