“He will be my Magnum Opus!” the eccentric man shouted gleefully, putting down his electric welder to raise his fists in proud proclamation. The white coat he wore was stained with oil, embossed with charcoal burn-marks and tattered in areas at the cuffs around the sleeves. The underground laboratory hummed its usual chorus of sentient machinery, sounding like the repercussant bass of a low budget orchestra accompanying the madman to his frenzied creations. The said lunatic gritted his teeth subconsciously in gratification, lips though, pulling up and out of the way to show a pearly, slightly deranged grin.

Before him lay the silent and unmoving body of what seemed to be a 16 year old boy. His skin was porcelain pale and although it was soft to touch, the flesh itself was as impenetrable as the material used for bullet-proofing. This biological shield of pretense would soon come in handy when guns are added to the equation. The scientist chuckled at the thought, inwardly praising himself for so ingeniously inventing such a benefit.

The creation also had a mop of blond hair, but this was all for pretense. It framed his pretty little face and posed the perfect distraction for any potential enemies in the field. The creator had thought originally of designing a little girl but there simply would not be enough room to encase all the gadgets necessary for controlling the ‘monster’ trapped within. Beautiful metallic muscles compounded along the limbs of this new body in the ideal formation, a new existence that was pleasing to any eye.

Like Victor Frankenstein, this novel creator looked proudly upon his monster and nodded whilst he muttered affectionately as if there was someone in the room that he was sharing the golden moment with.

“Be good to the world,” the tired man finally said, all of a sudden aging a million years. “I put blood, sweat and tears into you so fight for your existence. Rival any other and exceed all expectations.... Don’t lose yourself, Zelo-” The man froze, his eyes widening as he shocked even himself in giving the corpse a name, blurting out the title last minute. But the introspective man softened his expression and raised a hand to begin boot-up, pressing a dark tattoo inked into the underside of the male’s chin.

“Zelo, that’s a perfect name for you. After the Greek God of Rivalry,” the scientist scoffed, eyes now lighting up as he pressed hard into the metallic skin. “Zelo,” he repeated, “Here’s to life.” Then with a sharp draw of his hand, the body began to tingle, a build-up from the core out to the appendages and lastly, energy flowing up to the head.

Thick eyelashes fluttered open and like a diver resurfacing after sinking to unimaginable depths, a loud, in of breath infiltrated the laboratory. Bright, onyx eyes widened and then constricted to take in the abrupt alien surroundings of the cold, sterile bench. Heavy panting ensued as the newborn extremities staggered out of infancy.

Creation Zelo, was now in existence.
