Losing What She  Never Had
-Part One-

Jessica walked into the kitchen, watching her wife merrily mixing the dough as she used the kitchen aide. The blonde watched as the petite girl in front of her was smiling just like always. Why was she so happy? Why was she so carefree? Jessica’s jaw tightened. She couldn’t bear everything in their house anymore. She fought the lump that built in forcefully letting out the words that she had been meaning to tell her other half, “Let’s get a divorce.”

The noise that was created by the kitchen aide vanished. The petite girl stood still for a second but finally regained composure.

“Taeyeon, I want a divorce.” She held out a packet in a folder. On the front stated in big, bold letters: DIVORCE AGREEMENT

The girl’s facial expression was unreadable. She wasn’t sad – just completely blank. Jessica let the news sink in to Taeyeon. The petite girl then nodded as she reached for folder, “Okay.”

***

It had been more than a week since the last time Jessica and Taeyeon had seen each other. After their conversation, Taeyeon signed the documents, packed her belongings and left. Well, at least that’s what Jessica knew.

After Taeyeon took the packet from her, the blonde just walked out of their--- her house. She didn’t really want to see Taeyeon since she might take her words back. She might not want to divorce Taeyeon, who happened to be what she considered the best thing that happened to her in her entire twenty-five years of life.

Now that they were no longer together, Jessica now had the life that she wanted – single and free. At least that was what she thought before she met her wife.

***

“Why don’t you just marry my sister? She wants to live here with me in Canada, but if my mom petitions her, it’ll take years before she can set foot in this country.” Jessica’s male best friend begged her for the umpteenth time that month. It had been about a year since he started bugging her about this marriage.

“I’m telling you, I’m too young to marry your sister. Plus, I don’t want to get in trouble with the government or immigration because of that.”

“You won’t get in trouble.”

Jessica looked at her friend, eyes cold. “Did you really study here? That’s a felony, okay? Marrying someone just for them to be a citizen is a crime, Heechul.”

He rolled his eyes at Jessica, “It’s not like you’re going to kill someone. Come on. My baby sister is the only one living there in South Korea. Can’t you imagine being alone when your entire family is in another country?”

Jessica frowned. In fact, Jessica had lived her life almost separated from her parents. Her mother was in Chicago, Illinois with her new family, which consisted of her stepdad and her half sister named Krystal. Her dad was somewhere in the world, he was a public speaker, where he encouraged those people who were feeling down or some sort. Jessica still didn’t understand her father’s job. Why would people pay him a large sum of money for him just to speak these, apparently so, ‘encouraging’ words? The blonde never really liked how her father was being hypocritical about living life, when he himself, never really lived life. He went and traveled from city to city, country to country, continent to continent but was that really an inspiring life to live? Did he really have the right to tell people how to deal with problems when Jessica knew that her father simply ran away from her mother when things weren’t that perfect? There was no need for questioning now since Jessica accepted their imperfections. It was not like she expected her parents to be perfect anyway.

“You have no idea.” Jessica spat as she continued to look at her thesis paper, reviewing every word she had typed in her Asus laptop. The last year of college could really be a pain in the . All her classes required some sort of paper which of course she did even though she complained about it hundreds of times.

“So you won’t marry my sister? Come on, Jessica. She’s lovely!”

Her shoulders dropped as she exhaled through her nose, “Why are you asking me of all people? Can’t you just hire some guy or a girl that can marry your sister? I know they pay some people to do that or like why can’t she just be in a real marriage?”

“It’s because I can only entrust my sister to you and you to her. Ever since we became friends three years ago I treated you like a baby sister.” He crossed his arms on his chest.

“Sadly, even three years ago, I never really thought of marrying someone. I think marriage is only because people need to lower their taxes and also, like what you want from me, immigration purposes.”

“Jessica, if you really think that, then why don’t you just marry my sister?”

“Because I don’t want to get married! I’m twenty one for crying out loud! I want to remain single and free.”

“But what’s the point? It’s not like you won’t be free. You’ll pretty much remain single. You’re just married through your papers.”

“I don’t want to. I don’t get why you want me to be married. Me of all people.”

“Because I know Taeyeon and you will get along. She’s really lovely and she swings the other way just like you! I can trust her with you and you with her. Two of my baby sisters getting married. Isn’t that such a sweet scene for a loving oppa like me?”

“That reminds me, why are in my dorm, oppa? You’re done with college two years ago and they still let you in the dorms?” Jessica raised her brow.

Heechul shrugged, lifting his shoulders and having this pretentious innocent look on his face. “I told them I’m a student. Face it, I still look young.”

Jessica rolled her eyes, “Whatever. Just let me be.” Jessica saw Heechul open his mouth, so the blonde didn’t let her best friend speak his words and beat him to whatever he was going to say. “No. I won’t marry your sister and that’s final.”

***

“My family’s gonna be whole again, Jessica.”

“Huh?” She asked as she eyed the coffee in front of them that was laid on the small table, thinking deeply. “Are you on something?” She asked; still not looking at him.

Heechul ignored the sarcastic remark and simply flashed a smile as he took the seat next to Jessica. “My sister finally got a tourist visa.”

“Oh. That’s cool.” Jessica’s eyes resumed to read some sales marketing strategy in front of her.

“Why don’t you sound happy? You should be happy for me!”

“I am happy for you.”

Heechul didn’t let his friend get him down. “I really can’t wait! She’ll be here in two weeks!”

“I really am happy for you, but can you shut up? I really need to study these proposals my staff came up with.” Jessica was still eyeing the text that was in her clutches.

“Manager Jung is really busy huh? You just graduated a couple of months ago and you’re already a manager. Very impressive.”

“Your compliments won’t make me want to marry your sister.”

Heechul lowered his head as Jessica caught on to his act. “I wasn’t even planning on forcing my sister to you.”

“Tell that to whoever wants to listen to your bull crap.”

“It’s not bull crap Jessica. I’m just really, really happy that my baby sister will finally be here with us even if it’s just for a couple of months.”

***

The pain Jessica was feeling in her eyes gave little contribution to the pain she had been feeling in her chest. She cried herself to sleep last night as she heard that devastating news. “Heechul, you b@stard. Why’d you have to die?!” she cursed underneath her breath.

Heechul was really happy to know that he would see his younger sister, but fate played a cruel trick as he had not seen her sister even before he died.

That stupid guy jaywalked again, Jessica thought as she held on to her pillow.

Jessica recalled in her mind the last time she had seen Heechul, and like always, their conversation was about his little sister while he begged Jessica to marry the said sister. It wasn’t like his intentions were bad. He only wanted Jessica to marry the girl because he wanted his family to be whole. Petitioning her would not validate her tourist visa and it will also take them years to be able to bring her to Canada. A Spouse Visa was needed for her to be there.

So how can their family be whole without the sister or Heechul?

***

“Heechul,” Jessica stood in front of her best friend’s grave. She bent down a little as she felt the letters of his name on the plaque, and finally knelt one knee on the grass. “You’re right. Taeyeon is really lovely.” The wind brushed through the blonde’s hair. “I really fell for her.”

Jessica imagined Heechul, proudly flashing off his teeth at her as he says “I told you so.”

“But I asked her to divorce me.” Jessica gave a smile at the tombstone but her eyes said otherwise. Her smile emitted a defeated aura, showing her sunken heart.

Jessica couldn’t help but laugh as she imagined Heechul yelling at her, “What?! She’s my lovely sister! What do you mean ‘divorce’!? Get your back to her and say you take it back!”

“Heechul, I think I know you too well that I can pretty much picture what you’d be saying right now.” Jessica straightened her posture, “Come on, Heechul. I know we’re only married because we have to. She finally got her citizenship now. It came through the mail a week before I asked her. Isn’t that what you wanted? She’s finally back to your parent’s house.” Jessica felt her breathing got harder as if air was somewhat limited. “Isn’t that what you all wanted?” she fought her tears from falling, but those emotions that she bottled in her couldn’t help but pour out along with her tears.

***

Two months had passed since Heechul’s death. Jessica didn’t have the strength to face Heechul’s family as she was treated as a part of their own. It was hard. Having a family was alien to her, so being in Heechul’s house without her friend was something Jessica wouldn’t dare to want. She just didn’t like being uncomfortable around a place that seemed like she was invading. It was often told that Jessica and Heechul acted similarly that it scared Jessica that his parents might see him in her or something along those lines. Jessica just didn’t like the idea of being a replacement. The often “Heechul loved that just like you,” “Heechul’s humor was just like yours”. The blonde hated those past tense lines. Heechul is Heechul while Jessica is Jessica.

***

Sadly for Jessica, she was invited to a small gathering in the Kim’s home to bid Taeyeon goodbye. She didn’t really want to be in Heechul’s house. It had been awhile now and she had accepted his death and so did the family. It wasn’t like they should stop living because of his death. He was dear to her, but the living was more important than the dead.

She had seen a glance of Taeyeon from afar a couple of times. They had met and exchanged hellos in those couple of times. The blonde eyed the girl, who was with her mother and father. They were hugging her, saying that they would miss their child. It was weird for Jessica to be there because she knew Heechul had wanted Jessica to marry his sister so she could be with them-his family.

This… kid, who happened to have the same age as Jessica, was the ‘lovely’ girl Heechul always talked about. She didn’t seem like she was special. Yes, she had a pretty face, but was a puny, little girl really ready for marriage? If Jessica did agree, which she wouldn’t, no one would ever believe her; especially at the office. They would think she had this weird hobby of looking at kids. So in short, people might think she was a e.

“Jessica!” Mrs. Kim, who Jessica dubbed as ‘Mom,’ called for her.

“Yes?”

“You should go grab some more food.” The lady walked towards Jessica, and when she was close enough, she reached for Jessica’s cheek and pinched it. “I know you’re always busy with work and you’re always eating those junk foods so go eat some real food. No more junk”

“I don’t eat junk, Mom.”

“Don’t lie to me. I know it when my daughters lie to me.”

Daughter

It had been such a long time since someone called her that. Such a long time, but sadly, Jessica’s biological parents never called her that. It was only Mister and Missus Kim whom called or claimed her as their ‘daughter’. They really treated her as a family member. She knew that the Kim family never really saw her as a stranger, so somehow, as a ‘daughter’ of this family; shouldn’t she make them happy in any way she could?

“Mom,” She called as she looked at the old lady; the wrinkles on her face were evident. Jessica could feel the callus on the lady’s palms as a portion of it touched her cheek. She knew how much the lady worked to support Taeyeon’s and Heechul’s schooling even though she had always been weak.

Time and hard labor were to blame for Missus Kim’s current fragile state. Jessica wanted to do something for the old lady that only she, a person with no family, could give the old lady. Ironic, wasn’t it? Jessica could give Mister and Missus Kim what she didn’t have---a family.

The old lady smiled at Jessica, “Yes?”

Jessica sighed, knowing she might regret this after saying it but she didn’t really care.

Whatever, she thought.

“Will you let me marry your daughter?”

***

“I hired a lawyer so he will coach us with everything that may happen in some immigration process.” Jessica set up Taeyeon’s luggage on the bed in her guest room. “He doesn’t know this is a fake marriage, so don’t even tell him. If he knows our case is just arranged, I’m sure it won’t even take a heartbeat before he drops our case.”

“Jessica,” The blonde looked over her shoulder to meet the kid’s---her wife’s gaze. Taeyeon flashed a soft smile; teeth were hidden. She finally spoke, “Thank you.”

Jessica took awhile to process the kind gesture. She just nodded and continued speaking, “One requirement my lawyer said is a joint bank account. I already talked to my banker and we’ll open a bank account. They also want a lot of pictures and receipts under both our names so I’m putting your name on all my bills like the electricity and the cable. All that.”

“Re-really?”

“We have to seem like we’re really a couple.”

“I’m sorry to burden you.”

Jessica didn’t bother looking at Taeyeon, she simply walked towards the closet, “This is your closet, but you’ll have to put some of your clothes in my closet and some of my clothes here, too. If we ever get an inspection by Homeland Security, they will really believe that we’re together.”

“Okay.”

The girl’s submissiveness was somewhat annoying Jessica. Couldn’t the girl hold a better conversation or at least pretend that she had questions? They couldn’t be awkward around each other anymore because in the eyes of society, they were already married. Before, she only knew this girl simply as Heechul’s sister, but now the girl standing in the same room as her was now her wife.

Funny wasn’t it? Jessica thought that she would refuse Heechul’s pleas until the end, but seeing the Kim family broken again would also break Jessica’s heart. She didn’t need to say it, but she promised to take care of the Kim family in place of Heechul. This was one way to do so, right? Just two years and this marriage will be over.

***

“I’m ho----“ Jessica’s forlorn face showed as she entered her house. It used to be their house, but that was because of this marriage they were in. Jessica trusted Taeyeon with all her assets. The house, the cars, everything Jessica owned, Taeyeon owned on papers, and Taeyeon had the right to half her assets legally. However, not a single penny did the girl take from Jessica.

Jessica plopped down the couch. Somehow, Taeyeon’s scent was still there. It still lingered there as the latter usually sat there. Jessica felt the weight in her chest got heavier, as she recalled those times they were together.

****

“Where did you first meet?” Jessica read the question out lout. Jessica’s immigration lawyer gave her a paper full of possible questions by immigration agents. “This is stupid.” She sighed as she read more questions from the document. “Who would remember where they first met?”

“We first met at Heechul’s wake, during the service.”

Jessica looked at Taeyeon for a good five seconds, “You remember things like that?” She then wrote their answer on the space provided so they could practice it during the interview.

“Of course. My brother always talked about you.”

“That blabber mouth.” Jessica then read out loud the next question, avoiding any type of conversation that included Heechul. “When is your spouse’s birthday?” Jessica leaned back as she was seated on the couch. Sighing, Jessica shut her eyes, raised her hand, placing it on top of her forehead. “This is ridiculous.” For a minute or two, there was only silence that surrounded them. Well, what could she do? She already agreed to this.

“I’ll try to answer everything about me and you can read it. I think that’s pretty much the only way we can really answer this.” Jessica felt the paper slip off from her hands. “I’ll read things about you, too.”

***

“So she is older than me.” Jessica mumbled as she read Taeyeon’s answers. The blonde looked at her planner on her phone, “I missed it.” That was the day Jessica wasn’t able to pick up Missus Kim’s call. She was too busy with work that she forgot to call back the old lady and asked about the call.

Jessica exhaled air of frustration; was having a wife supposed to make people guilty when they didn’t bother gifting their spouse with a gift on their birthday? It wasn’t like it was Jessica’s fault. It wasn’t really a marriage to begin with. Plus, she was busy since she had been going to other company branches with her bosses. She was out of town, while Taeyeon had been with her parents since three days ago so there was no way in hell for her to attend the celebration anyway.

Was that the right way to deal with things? Was it right of her to just simply shrug the thought of not giving her wife a gift? But shouldn’t she be a good spouse and gift the girl something? Questions clustered in Jessica’s head.

Sighing, Jessica grabbed her handbag that was on the desk and headed out. She had to pick her wife up from her in-laws. Calling them her ‘in-laws’ was somewhat weird to Jessica. It was new, and she never really imagined for the Kim family to be her in-laws. Actually, she never really thought of having one. She really pictured her life as a single girl until death. Well, some things ought to change.

***

“Hello,” Jessica smiled as Taeyeon opened the door to her Range Rover. “Sorry I’m late.”

“It’s fine. You’re already doing me a favor by picking me up here.” Taeyeon smiled at Jessica.

“Let me just put my stuff in the back.”

Jessica nodded, clutching her steering wheel. She nervously gulped. She heard a gasp coming from her wife. She bit her lips, waiting for another response coming from the girl. “You shouldn’t have!” Taeyeon exclaimed. “I mean, thank you but you shouldn’t have!”

The blonde looked over her shoulder, watching Taeyeon grab the box that Jessica laid in the back. “Happy belated birthday, Taeyeon.”

Taeyeon looked at Jessica, bewildered by the statement. “Thank you. You’re already doing a lot of things for me. You really didn’t have to.”

Jessica looked away and said, “Don’t mention it.”

Taeyeon shut the back door, walked towards the passenger’s seat and climbed in. “How was your trip?”

“It was okay. I’ve been busy with my bosses so it’s really good to be back.”

“Jessica,” The blonde looked to her side, witnessing the smile on her wife’s face. “Welcome home.”

Jessica’s lips twitched, trying her best to prevent herself from forming a smile. Nodding, Jessica focused on the road and drove off.

To kill the silence that surrounded them in the car, Jessica the radio. Things still hadn’t changed around them. They had been married for less than a month, and it wasn’t like they would change how they interact because of that. The blonde was used to going home by herself that picking up someone who she knew as her ‘wife’ was still strange to her.

“You know I bake?”

“I read it from the questionnaire.”

Taeyeon nodded, “Thank you for the kitchen aide. I’ll bake something when we get home.”

Home, huh? Jessica liked the constant repetition of the word. Ever since she was young, she had always been in boarding schools. Most of the students were lucky to have a roommate so they wouldn’t feel alone, but the blonde’s parent’s thought that their child would like to be alone. From first grade to high school, Jessica attended three boarding schools in Canada, England, and Australia. She had met people from all over the globe, but rarely had she ever gotten close with them.

How should she deal with this?

Jessica sighed, “Don’t make it overly sweet.”

“Okay.”

Wait, did she offend Taeyeon? Taeyeon’s tone wasn’t as cheerful as it should be.

“I---uhm… I didn’t…”

Jessica glanced at Taeyeon. How should she deal with these things anyway? How should she handle her ‘wife’? That was why she didn’t like people. They tend to never understand her and they usually take her words the wrong way.

She sighed again, wishing that something or someone would interfere with their awkward bubble. Luck might be on Jessica’s side as her phone rang, “Hello?”

“Ma’am, the president said you can take tomorrow off since you already worked so hard these past couple of days in the other branches.”

Was that really luck?

“Okay.” Jessica hung up and then grunted.

Taeyeon gulped, “Work?”

Nodding, Jessica simply maneuvered the car to her parking garage. “They said I don’t have to come in tomorrow.”

“Oh.” Taeyeon got off the car and headed towards the back to gather her things. Jessica did the same thing.

“I’ll help you out.” She grabbed the duffle bag from Taeyeon, and without uttering another word, she went inside their house.

“I haven’t been home in awhile.”

Jessica looked over her shoulder, “Weren’t you just at your parent’s house?” Taeyeon frowned, and so Jessica continued, “Don’t worry. Maybe in two or three years, you’ll be able to go home to your parents permanently. Just bear with me a little longer.”

The petite girl just looked at Jessica. Her lips curved upwards a little but she didn’t utter a single word.

Jessica sighed, mentally smacking herself. Why couldn’t she just handle things better? She reminded herself to never bring up the Kim family since each time, it seemed like it only made the girl sadder. They were both not in this relationship because they wanted to --- well, romantically at least. She needed to realize that she was suffering as much as the other.

Maybe she should just make things a little easier for them?

***

“Welcome home.” Taeyeon greeted Jessica as the blonde walked in the kitchen. “The food’s about to be done so take a seat.”

Jessica sat down. She should be used to this by now, coming home to a hot meal, not needing to stop at any fast food chain, but it was still surreal to her.

“I made your favorite.” She got the tray of lasagna out of the oven, showed it to Jessica with a smile on her face.

“How’d you know?”

“The questionnaire.”

Jessica scoffed. Who would have thought that that stupid sheet of paper they each filled with their answers would come in handy?

“Eat up. My mom said you’re always hungry after work and that I should cook for you every single day.”

Jessica smiled as Taeyeon placed a piece of lasagna on her plate. She looked at Taeyeon and said, “You don’t have to do this every single day. I like eating what you make since you cook like your mom, but it takes too much time and effort to cook for just two people. We can always eat out.”

Taeyeon shook her head, “My mom told me, as a wife, I should tend to your needs.”

Jessica pressed her lips together, suppressing the smirk threatening to form. Wife, huh? the blonde thought. For the first time in their marriage, she liked coming home to a wife.

***

“Hello?” The blonde reached for her phone.

“Hi Jessi.”

Jessica sighed. It wasn’t the time to get a phone call from her best friend for she was busy working. Her company was launching a new real estate project and she was assigned to make some marketing propositions. “I’m busy. I don’t have time for chitchat.”

“How could you say that to me, Jessi? I’m not only your best friend but I’m also your divorce attorney.”

“So? I paid you to be my divorce attorney.”

“What payment are you talking about?! I did it for free.”

“You did?” Jessica didn’t really pay attention to her friend.

“Yes!” Tiffany exclaimed.

“So, why did you call?”

“It’s because I filed your divorce papers already and I’ll attend the court hearing this Monday. I’m just wondering if there are any strange happenings around you?”

“Not really.”

“No one from the immigration harassing you this time?”

“No one visited my place yet. Why?”

“Didn’t I tell you that they can still revoke Taeyeon’s citizenship even though she already got it? So I’m just making sure that those dogs aren’t harassing any of my clients.”

Jessica dropped her document and was paying all her attention to her best friend, “You think they’ll harass us again?”

“They might harass Taeyeon especially, but I don’t think I can make a move unless they actually do something to any of you guys.” Jessica heard Tiffany’s secretary talking. “I know she lives with her parents now. Didn’t they move last year?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you have to fly to her?”

Jessica shook her head as if the attorney could see her. “It’s just an hour's drive.”

“Well, I just hope Taeyeon will call me if they harass her. Those dogs are really intimidating. You would know.”

Flashback of a nightmare came back rushing to Jessica. It was a night that not Taeyeon nor Jessica would want to relive.

****

A knock disrupted Jessica’s concentration as she was in her small office at home. “Who is it, Taeyeon?” Jessica bellowed, as she heard the front door open.

Not a lot of people knew where she lived. This was the house her mother owned and gave to Jessica, so of course, only the Jungs and her mother who was using Park as her last name knew that she lived there. The Kims, Tiffany, and a few of Jessica’s friends were also privy to the information.

There was no reply from Taeyeon so Jessica asked once more.

“Je---Jessica, ca-can you please come here?”

Jessica knew it was unusual for Taeyeon to make such request so she stopped working. She stood up and walked outside, heading towards the front door only to see a tall, white guy talking to Taeyeon, who knew very limited English.

Hello, my name is Andrew Bronston with Homeland Security. I’m assuming you’re Jessica Jung.” He looked at the blonde, “I’m here to inspect your home. My partner will be here soon. He speaks Korean since it was stated that Missus Taeyeon Jung doesn’t speak English that well.”

“Sorry, I’m late.” A guy only a few inches taller than Jessica walked behind Andrew. “My name’s Jay with Homeland Security and we’re here to ask some questions.”

Jessica gulped. She didn’t expect for Homeland Security to actually pay them a visit.

“Taeyeon, what did you get Jessica for her birthday?”

“I I---“ Taeyeon started, but was cut off by the agent.

“Jessica, what did you get Taeyeon for her birthday?”

When was the last time you went out on a date?”

“Do your parents know you’re married, huh, Jessica?”

Do you really sleep in the same room?

They marched into the house, not letting the two answer the questions they just showered. “Jessica, if you don’t want to be arrested for a felony case just confess that this marriage is forged. We’re simply going to send Taeyeon back to South Korea.”

Jessica looked at Taeyeon who seemed so lost. That sight of Taeyeon upset Jessica. “Who are you to question our marriage? You come here, barging into our home and question our relationship and you expect me to confess something that’s not true?” Jessica walked towards the front door, opening it.

“We are following everything that’s been happening with you guys. We follow your schedule and all that.” Jay raised his brief case, “We have evidence here that you’re not really married.”

“What evidence are you talking about? We are married and we have every document you need to prove that. So please leave our house.” There was tremor in Jessica’s voice.

Jay and Andrew each took out their business cards from their wallets, leaving it on the counter side table, “We don’t want to send you to jail, Jessica.”

“You should call us,” Andrew looked at Taeyeon, and then back at Jessica, “We’ll help you out of this fake marriage.”

Jessica’s blood was boiling as this guy in front of her just insulted her very being. “I don’t need your help. I love my wife and that’s all that matters. Your division will hear from my lawyer for harassment.” When she was more collected, Jessica continued, “This is also breaking into someone’s home without any search warrant. So please leave.”

The guys simply walked past Taeyeon without making any eye contact. One reason may be because the girl lowered her head down. They walked out and Jessica slammed the door behind them. “!” Jessica cussed.

Taeyeon was simply glued to her spot, not knowing how to deal with the longest five minutes of her life. Tears welled up in her eyes so Jessica hurriedly walked towards her side, “I promise this won’t happen ever again.”

It took awhile for Taeyeon to speak. Lips quivering, Taeyeon the voiced out “Maybe I should go back to Seoul.”

“Taeyeon,” Jessica wiped Taeyeon’s tears with her thumb “This is just the beginning. I’ll do something about this.” Jessica slowly led Taeyeon to the blonde’s bedroom and sat her wife on the bed. “Let me just make a quick phone call.”

Jessica went to her office, shutting the door behind her. She dialed her attorney’s emergency line, “This is Attorney James Crock.”

“James, this is Jessica Jung.”

“Oh, hi Jessica, is there a problem?”

Jessica told her attorney everything that happened that night in a very upset tone. She didn’t like how things unfolded and how her wife was in a state of shock. “Taeyeon is really scared because these people just barged in our house and they’re pretty much seeing us as criminals!”

“What?! That’s harassment! I will make sure to make phone calls. They usually do this, but we have all their requirements so they don’t have the need to go to your house and harass you.”

“That’s exactly my point! I am pressing charges for harassment. I do not want my wife to even go through this! This is ridiculous! Completely unacceptable!” There were more words that Jessica blabbered out of anger.

“I’ll see to it first thing in the morning.” The lawyer explained the procedures to Jessica and after that, the blonde walked out of her office and walked towards the front of her room. She saw Taeyeon talking to her mother on the phone, crying.

“Mom, I’m really scared.” The girl sniffed. The pause told Jessica that the girl was listening to her mother. “I just… yeah… but Mom… I really don’t want to see Jessica like that ever again. I don’t want her to be in jail because of me…”

“Mom… maybe I should just go back?”

“Taeyeon, I talked to our lawyer.” The blonde pretended as if she just walked in, and heard nothing.

“I’ll talk to you later Mom.” Taeyeon hang up and looked at her wife. “Jessica, maybe I should just go ba---“

“I don’t want you to go back just because of this, Taeyeon. I promise we would handle things better next time.” Jessica walked closer to her wife, sat down beside her and held Taeyeon’s hand. She didn’t really like the fact that Taeyeon was crying. Somehow, those two seemed like guys that threatened to break her family but they also served Jessica another purpose- they opened Jessica’s eyes to reality. The reality that they were never really married. The dates, the talks, the late night movies were all because they were in this to fool the eyes of society.

“I don’t want to cause you any more trouble, Jessica. You’re a really, really nice person and I don’t want you to be put through this again.”

“If you’re really thankful, stay with me until this marriage is over. Just until your papers are complete.”

So, what do you guys think? This is the first Part of the story. :3

Hope you liked reading it as much as I loved writing it<3

In case you guys are wondering, yes, some Immigration Officers/Agents actually do these harassment and once a government official walks in your house WITHOUT any search warrant, that is considered HARASSMENT. :3 Any information that government officials take from you during such 'search' would be considered INVALID evidence.

Some Homeland Security agents would ask questions as such, too so hiring a lawyer would lessen such harassment. :)
