The truth about us
Eyes OpenSuho sat on the balcony of his bedroom looking over the night sky as the city lights below the temple started to flicker out one by one. He was with Leeteuk funnily enough; he hadn’t seen the spirit in weeks.
“Why are we so feared?”
“Because they all doubt like you”
“Like me?”
“Science will be the death of you”
“I cannot die”
“Maybe so… But while majority is fact for mortals, you are not; therefore you must have different rules”
“It does not make sense, we we’re birthed by humans but we ourselves are something unearthly”
“Unearthly because you are not human”
“Then how?”
“It is the way of the guardians- we ourselves are not able to reproduce without the help of humans- or anything really I could have created you inside a bear… But our physique fits with humans so naturally- why wouldn’t I choose a human to birth you?”
“I am not human”
“You are so much more, young guardian”
“Why aren’t you here? Where are you going?” Suho asked looking at his counterpart
“I cannot guide you every step of your journey”
“But why now? Political peace isn’t stable here, all I sense is anger”
Leeteuk sighed “Peace is not an easy thing with these humans, such an aggressive race- we’re lucky to keep the world relatively peaceful for a few millennia and of course that isn’t complete peace either- last time the USA blew up China and of course with it Japan and Korea, nuclear war broke out, it was so toxic in the air and that ended the human race- of course we put the world on reset”
“Killing yourself in the process”
“That’s the thing” Leeteuk mused “I’m not dead”
“You’re a ghost, which goes completely against my beliefs but your still here”
“Do not say that- science is for humans, not for you- think of it as a religion- a false religion”
“But it makes so much sense”
“For a mortal, Suho you forget you are not”
“We’re their religion”
“A dying religion might I add”
“Thanks hyung”
“To the point Suho- you can’t live your life in doubt, for you doubt who you are and the immense power you possess, you forget how strong you really are”
“I’m not that strong”
“You could crush a human bone easily”
“I would never think of doing such thing”
“Of course not- but humans view on you may be different”
“They hate us with a passion”
“Indeed- and for that I’m sorry”
“Why is it our duty to protect those who hate us so much?”
“Ah they may not like you but that doesn’t change the fact that protecting them isn’t right”
“They destroy themselves”
“Indeed they do… A storm is coming; and a big one indeed”
----
“Luhan pass me the jam will you!” Jongin shouted from across the breakfast table
“Sure… Uh which would you like? Suho made cranberry and elderflower!”
“Yeah sure that one then, whatever”
Kris was overlooking his family having breakfast fifteen years Kris had stayed here; it was weird how he was physically older than he was.
Not that he was complaining or anything
He was feeding Tao some crepes- Tao had reached maturity and he was only thirteen in human years
Everyone had finished their sets of scrolls- though HanGeng his spiritual counterpart had told him there were in fact many ways to use your power- ways you could think of without the scrolls help
He was right.
Tao could stop time whenever he pleases- sometimes he does it if he doesn’t want you to leave which was a pain for anyone else.
The mist stops mortals- or anyone apart from the guardians noticing
Although it does affect them
He noticed that Suho and Lay were closer than ever before- he’d felt the vibe before but now more often than not Suho was found in the attic with Lay on the guitar.
There were three members, who could play piano- Chen, Luhan and Suho
Three who could play guitar- Lay, Sehun and Kris himself
Kyungsoo and Baekhyun could play the violin and cello
Chanyeol and Jongin could play drums and bass guitar
They all had a gift with the arts- music and dance
A secret gift you might say
Suho would sit in the attic for hours with the young southerner and write songs, play songs, laugh
Where Suho would forget to doubt
It was with Lay when Suho let go of science- where he let his immortality shine
Where he could be free
----
“What are we?” Kris asked HanGeng as they rested on a tree top enjoying the fresh morning air
HanGeng looked so real; Kris had to remind himself he wasn’t.
“What do you think we are?” HanGeng smiled looking up at the sky
“Aliens”
“Close” HanGeng laughed “I don’t know whether it is a story you’d like to hear”
“Oh it is, learning about our past shall help us create a path for our future”
“We are the forerunners of this planet”
“The first civilisation”
“Yes, you see we weren’t always immortal”
“How so?”
“Infection came about; Leeteuk had created a serum that had enabled our race to become immortal at the cost of our ability to reproduce, unfortunately the guardians were the only survivors of that nasty plague, and we sought to create a peaceful world for other species that may blossom on this peaceful earth- evolution has created you, the new era of guardians, the most powerful yet”
“I don’t know whether I want to be powerful”
“It’s not your choice, however that the problem is not that you have power, but the problem is how you use that power”
“To help others”
“Precisely”
“Suho doubts about us a lot”
“I have heard- Suho is a confused boy, very young and inexperienced, he may doubt now- but with war on the horizon he will step up to his duties, I know he will”
“I know so too”
