Description
We were born poor, but that’s okay because my brother is able to take care of both of us. My older brother, SangChul, had always attracted trouble for his size and brash attitude since Middle School. He is hard-headed and sorts his problems with his fists. From being four years old, I was surrounded by boys who would eventually, inevitably, turn into what society calls bad men, or ‘Kkangpae’.
Cut off from my peers for being ‘the sister of a thug’, I never experienced things that normal teen girls were supposed to go through: childish gossiping amongst friends, shopping dates with your female friends, or ever receiving a love confession. Nobody saw me as my own person, just Lee SangChul’s little sister and “lest you want your legs breaking, you’d better stay away from her.”
If you manage yourself well, you don’t even need to meet people for them to know your name. That was the idea. However, you tend to find you are still approached and it’s usually by the worst kinds: bad boys out to make a name for themselves, trying their luck; or inconsolably love-sick idiots. Unfortunately for them, my brother and his ‘thug friends’ weren’t so keen on either. Unfortunately for my brother, I liked to live on the exciting side of life.
There are three types of secrets:
Something you hide at the bottom of your heart because you don’t want it to be mentioned.
Something you can’t say even if you wanted to.
Something you hope someone asks about even though you’re hiding it.
