Once they entered the mansion, Hyemi and Hyerin could not help but feeling a little scared as the coldness and eccentricity of the interior sent tremor down their veins.

There were two majestic staircases lead to the second floor. The hall was lit dimly by the few wall chandeliers. It was uncomfortably silent. Every step they took echoed loudly and added on the chills. Hyemi could feel that every hair was standing on its end.

“Let’s get out from here. This is mental,” Hyemi nudged Hyerin’s ribs.

“Where are you going? You planned to walk? Well, it may take up to two days walking to your house,” Seyong looked at the twins.

“What the fcuk are you rambling about?” Hyerin asked nervously.

“We’re not in Seoul Hyerin,” Minji explained.

“We’ve been walking for like 30 minutes and we’re not in Seoul? Maybe you should do a skit at Gag Concert,” Hyerin snapped.

“We’re not joking. Now, both of you, can you calm down so that we can explain things to you?” Seyong asked, getting impatient.

Seyong and Minji lead the twins upstairs. They went through another hall. There were a few portraits on the wall. Men and women, young and old. They all looked exquisitely beautiful although ghastly pale. Hyemi suddenly stopped when she saw one portrait. It was Gunwoo’s portrait. The others walked ahead but Hyemi stopped dead. She looked at the portrait intently. There was this unknown aura made her stuck there. Gunwoo’s face was warm and calm. Very serene. His eyes looked alive in the portrait. Hyemi could swear that the eyes were staring back at her, as if they were trying to give her comfort and warmth she longed for. There was this special connection Hyemi felt entangled between him and Gunwoo in portrait. She knew him. Well, they met briefly at her house when the chaos happened and Seyong addressed him as Gunwoo. The unknown mutual understanding between the two somehow made Hyemi became very emotional. She felt hot tears threatened to burst so she shook her head and headed to the room where the others were waiting for her.

“Sorry, I was just looking around,” Hyemi apologized.

“Okay, so let me tell you the truth,” Seyong looked at the nervously but Minji nodded at him encouragingly.

“So, we are vampires,” Seyong finally said after he took a deep breath.

“WE ARE WHAt????!” Hyemi and Hyerin asked simultaneously, almost screaming.

“Ya I know you are twins but this telepathy is scaring me,” Seyong hissed but soon continue. “We are vampires. Just like Minji and myself. The reason why we can move so fast, the reason why my strength is not the normal ones, and we have more and differing specialties according to your elements.”

“And we have two clans in vampire folklore. The Red Clan –me and Seyong- are said to be from the noble and pure vampire blood. While another one is the Black clan. They have werewolves blood in them since their ancestors were a mix of werewolves and vampires. But these days werewolves no longer exist. Only the Black Clan. And those who came to ambush your house few hours ago are those from the Black Clan,” Minji continued.

“Why did they come to our house?” Hyerin asked.

“Well, they tried to recruit both of you,” an alien’s voice suddenly answered. Gunwoo was there in the room with them. He looked at Hyemi and Hyemi felt the warmth she felt when she looked at the portrait just now. She broke the eye contact. “Recruit us? What do you mean by that?”

Gunwoo went near to the window and rest his back against the wall. His brown eyes were sparkling against his fair and pale complexion.

“Because both of you just reached your 17^th birthdays. That’s when the children from vampire families get Vampinitized. Since both of you have no parents, the Blacks tried their hand to get both of you to come to their side. They longed to rule the vampire folklore and they thirst for the noble status. It is not a common happening in our world to have twins. They tried to kidnap both of you the moment you were born. In order to protect you, they killed your parents. Nope your parents fight bravely against them but luck was not on your side. The Council arrived both late and early. We were late because we could not save your parents but we were early enough to caught them in action and save both of you,”

“Just because we are rare, that we are twins?” Hyerin’s voice trembled.

“Each vampire will have one element. But there are two of you. So you guys will have two elements; you share it and it made each one of you have two elements.”

“What is this element thingy?”

“It’s like your traits, your specialties. For example, my element is dragon. I have extra strength and I have the power to produce heat and fire,” Seyong said calmly. There was pride in his tone.

“And I have merpeople element. I am the opposite of Seyong. I can produce water and cool things off,” Minji added.

“So what is my element?”

“Hmm, we don’t know until we get ourselves vampinitized. Once you got vampinitized, the Blacks won’t bother you anymore. It is our rule. Once you are vampinitized, you belong to the Clan,”

“How do we get vampinitized?”

“That’s the tricky part. You have to get blood from fellow vampires. Three drops would be just fine. Since you are 17 years old, the genes are all matured and they need the three drops of blood to complete the transformation,”

“That’s gross,” Hyemi spat.

“Stop this ridiculous thing. We’re entertained. Thanks. This is the worst birthday prank ever,” Hyerin finally burst into tears.

Hyemi was choking too but as the elder twin she tried to compose herself.

“Hyemi ya~ Hyerin aa~ I know this is hard, outrageous and ridiculous. But this is the truth. We are vampires. Both of your parents are the Reds too. They were really famous. My parents always talk about them proudly. I know it’s easier for me since I’ve known about my nature since I was a kid, but remember, your parents sacrificed themselves for both of you. Look at the portraits,” Minji pointed to the wall. There were two portraits on the wall. “That’s your parents. This was their room when they come to the Vineyard. No one ever come to this room. It is yours.”

Hyemi looked at the portraits longingly. Hyerin did the same too. Like Hyemi felt before, the twins experienced the weird tingling sensation when they made eye contact with the people in the portraits. Their parents were as if convincing them and encourage them to digest the truth that has been hidden for seventeen years.

“Arasso. So who is willing to donate their blood to us though?” Hyerin finally speak out in between her sobs.

“Minji got vampinitized not long ago, so her blood might not be as strong. I can do it but only for one person,” Seyong said bitterly. “We can’t afford to help more than one vampire to get vampinitized. The blood exchange costs a lot of energy. Well, I have no vampsoul as yet, so it’s okay for me.”

“Vampsoul?”

“Well, we vampires are not like in those Twilight novels and all. We don’t have to like drink and devour blood every now and then. We just need three drops of blood every 28 nights. So usually vampires have this vampsoul connection where two vampires exchange blood with each other. When they agreed to become mutual blood provider, their relationship is called the vampsoul. It’s not necessary but lovers usually become vampsouls. You can just ask anyone to let you have their blood but no one usually want to volunteer for the newbie. Because they are…… unused to it? So they tend to more blood and it really is a pain when you got your blood drained from fellow creatures. That’s what the Blacks love to do. They killed to satisfy their thirst,” Seyong’s voice trembled in anger.

“So, is there any case where the newbie killed the vampire who helped them?” Hyerin asked nervously.

“Well, there might be but we managed to stop them,” Seyong shrugged.

“Help me then, Seyong aa,” Hyerin pleaded. “I won’t be as guilty if I accidently killed you,” Hyerin’s playful self surged. Minji and Hyemi laughed. Seyong laughed too, but nervously.

“Arasso. But who’s gonna do it for Hyemi?” Seyong scratched his head.

“I will,” Gunwoo said coolly.

“I’m sorry I can’t help you T^T” Minji said apologetically.

“It’s okay,” Hyemi smiled. She was smiling but the thought of getting vampinitized by Gunwoo sent chills down her spine. She met him for the first time today and she was about to get his blood??????!

“Let’s get down to business then?” Seyong inquired.

“Hyemi sshi~ let’s go,” Gunwoo gestured the door to Hyemi.

“Where are we going?”

“You have to go to another room. It can get very nasty and complicated vampinitizing newbies. You don’t want to freak out seeing Hyerin though,” Minji explained.

“Arasso,” Hyemi stood and followed Gunwoo out of the room.

I was listening to Infinitize when I got the idea of coining

the word Vampinitize. Sounds corny, eh?
