More To Him Than It Looks

Description

It's obvious that Ogata Yamato is the most distant in the group, but when he becomes more distant than usual, his friends wonder what's going on.

So this is basically a one shot plus a pretty long introduction to the story.

Foreword

Two weeks ago

Yamato quietly left the room to the karaoke place due to all the noise and arguing of his friends over who was next to sing and what song.

"Yamato!" Ren, Yamato's rival and best friend called over the noise. "You're leaving already?" Yamato nodded.

"I'll see you guys tomorrow okay?" asked Yamato and recieved a cute wave from Ren, who then joined the others in fighting. He chuckled at how stupid they looked one last time before leaving. The wind of the night kissed his cheeks as he closed the door to the karaoke place and entered the streets. However he only got so far until he heard some voices.

"Someone help!" A female voice cried. Yamato turned and ran towards the voice while hoping that he won't be too late. As he reached the scene, he saw a sight that sickened him. Two guys had held the arms of one girl while another man was in front trying to feel her up. So far her school blazer has already been opened and now the man was working on the shirt underneath. "If you guys don't let me go, I'm gonna hurt you like there's no tomorrow!" In just a few seconds, the man was on the ground groaning and clutching his little friends while the girl was trying to hit the other two with her bag even though her arms were locked into place. He would've chuckled at how cute the girl looked if it weren't for the situation. To gain their attention, he threw his bag harshly at one of the grunts' head. All four of them looked to the new comer.

"What do you want you skinny punk?" The man on the ground asked, standing up.

"You three have some nerve picking on a girl at night," Yamato stated as he cracked his knuckles. "So maybe I should teach you some manners." The two other men dropped the girl onto the ground, who quickly tried to fix her buttons. In just a few minutes, Yamato took down all three men without breaking a sweat and went to the girl.

"Ah!" The girl cried thinking he was one of the three guys, closed her eyes and tried slapping him, but failed miserably when he caught her hand.

"If I knew you were like this, I never would've saved you!" Yamato cried as she began trying to claw at him. His words caught her by surprise, making her open her eyes again.

"Ah, I'm sorry!" The girl yelled. "I thought you were one of them."

"Obviously," Yamato retorted. "Now let's get out of here before they wake up." The two walked a few blocks to the park until the girl paused in the middle of the sidewalk.

"Thank you for saving me and walking me this much," the girl said. "I can go on my own from here." As she turned, Yamato held her back by grabbing her hand.

"I'll walk you home all the way," he offered. "I'll be in trouble if you get attacked again." Smiling, the girl agreed and thanked him again.

"By the way, I'm sorry for not asking earlier, but what's your name?" The girl asked. Her question made him realize that this whole time neither of them asked the other for their names.

"Isn't it rude to ask for someone's name before giving your own?" Yamato replied.

"Oh I'm sorry!" The girl exclaimed. "My name's Suzuki, Mika. Now your name now, kind sir." Mika stuck out her hand and gave him a sweet smile. For the first time, Yamato looked at her closely and noticed that she went to Momo High and that she was just about his age. Strange how he never saw her even though Momo High was right there. Then again, he didn't notice girls much anyways, which caused Ren to question his uality at times. Suddenly a hand waved itself in front of him. "Excuse me are you there?" Yamato nodded, realizing that his mind went into its own world.

"Ogata, Yamato," he answered. Without knowing, Yamato gave her a warm smile, which made her return with an angelic smile that made blood rush to his cheeks. "L-let's go," Yamato stuttered, trying to hide his blush from Mika. As they walked home, the two secretly looked at each other, and Yamato finally noticed how delicate and cute Mika looked like. They had some small chats about their schools, which Yamato became thankful about when Mika didn't judge him about Akadou. As they got to her apartment, Yamato frowned, knowing that their night had to end. They bid each other good night and just as he turned to leave, Mika ran after him and grabbed his arm.

"Ogata-san!" Mika called. "Umm if it's okay with you, maybe we can go and eat together tomorrow as a thanks for saving me and walking me home tonight?" He thought about how cute Mika looked while she was asking him with a blush on her cheeks and fiddling with her fingers.

"Sure," Yamato replied. "Let's go to that cafe near the arcade tomorrow then." Mika smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek before rushing back into her house, leaving the blushing Yamato outside wondering what happened.

The following week

Monday

"Yo Yamato!" Ichimura called. "Wanna go with us to see some Momo High girls?" Yamato smirked to himself.

'I already know one girl from Momo High," Yamato thought to himself. "And have them judge us like last time? No thanks, you guys go ahead."

Tuesday

"Yeah! We beat Ara High!" Kura and Honjo cheered.

"Let's go celebrate with karaoke!" Kura suggested.

"No, thanks, I'm tired," Yamato declined. "I'm gonna go home and rest."

The whole week went with Yamato declining his friends' invitations more and more until one day Ren notices a change in Yamato. Actually everyone has, even Yankumi, and she's the slowest out of them. Not a bad one, but Yamato's been smiling more often, less irritated by the others, but he's also been more secretive.

"It's time to test him," Ren thought aloud. He waited until Yamato came out of the gates. "Hey Yamato! Let's go to thYamato chuckled and patted Ren on the shoulder.

"Sorry Ren," Yamato apologized. "I got...uh homework. I'll see you guys on Monday okay?" As he left, Ren ran to the bush.

"See?" Ren whispered a bit loudly. "I knew he's hiding something!"

"We all knew that, you highlight freak," Kamiya teased as Honjo whacked Ren on the head.

"So on Monday we should follow him!" Ichimura suggested.

"Yeah!" Kura agreed. "We need to know what's going on with our leader." Ren smirked at all of them and put his fist out.

"Operation: Find out what Yamato's up to on Monday, shall start on Monday then!" Ren yelled, making the others stare at him. "What?"

"The name's a bit long, don't you think?" Kura pointed out.

"Who cares? I can't think of anything else," Ren defended. "But we got the idea. Ready?"

"Fighto...." The boys said together. "OH!"
