Authors talking to the characters?
Fanfiction Pet Peeves (Tips & How-to's)Rant/Tip OO3:
Unless your story is happy, comedic, fun, and cute... do not put things like:
- Myungsoo's POV -
She threw the glass plate at me, tears rapidly falling from her eyes, her face was covered in anger. (Author: Bet she still looked pretty, huh Myungsoo?) Yeah she did, author-nim! Very gorgeous! But as I was saying..
... etc...
See? The example I gave was obviously an angst/emotional story. But adding the little coversation with the author and Myungsoo.. no. It completely threw off the mood. And the exclamation points when it's supposed to be a sad, tearful moment? Aigoo. (In a moment like that, exclamation points are only supposed to emphasize the yelling & anger of a character)
My reaction when I see stuff like that:
Like for real bro. Never put that author-talking-to-character thing if your story has anything to do with angst or sadness. Once again, it completely throws off the mood.
But in other words... if your story is comedic & happy, then it'll make your readers kind of smile a bit, because it's almost like you yourself is interacting with the character.
An example with a happy-mood story:
- Donghae's POV -
So I was just casually walking down the street when I saw this pretty girl (Author: Oh please Donghae she isn't that pretty!) Shut up Author I'm telling the story here!
... etc..
It's kind of cute, don't you think?
Overall Tip: Do not do the author-talks-to-character thing if your story has anything to do w/ angst, , or sadness. You can, (I can't guarantee that everyone will like it) if your story is comedic, happy, and cute. But be sure that not every sentence is you talking to the character -.-
