Description

V.I., D-Lite, and T.O.P are the newest trainees at The Academy; an institution designed to train soldiers for the impending war.  They train both body and mind while the scientists track their progress and wait for their ability to appear.  This life is all the trainees know.  They remember nothing before waking up in the lab; and no one until V.I. has ever questioned it.

V.I., D-Lite, and T.O.P have a connection; something that draws them together and sets them apart from their follow trainees.  They search for answers, translate visions, and dodge bullies, but they end up only with more questions.  Then they meet Sol who introduces them to G.D, a fellow trainee who knows more about them and about The Academy then he is willing to tell.  But he holds the secret to their pasts and the key to escaping the prison they didn’t even know they were trapped in.

This story is very loosely based on BigBang’s MV for Fanastic Baby.  It started out as just a simple story based off it, but I can’t seem to do simple.  It slowly became much longer than I originally planned.  So, here is what I’ve been able to write so far.

I hope you’re able to enjoy this story.  Thank you for reading!  Please leave me a comment!  Constructive criticism is always welcome!

Foreword

“They are the perfect specimens.”

The words were whispered softly and left lips with a puff of warm breath into the frosty air. The person that spoke wore a heavy parka over her lab coat. She wore specially insulated goggles over her glasses to keep the lenses from freezing and cracking. The storage room was kept at a temperature below freezing. Although the storage pods before her each had their own individual freezing system, the room was kept at a similar degree to ensure the storage containers worked correctly.

Before her, in separate, sealed, frozen cylinders were the five young men she had desperately wanted to get her hands on. She walked before them and gazed at each face in turn. They were frozen, the glass itself had collected bit of frost and thus it made it difficult to clearly see what was inside. Unless you already knew what the container held.

She knew. She knew these boys. She had collected data and studied them for so long, she wouldn’t be surprised if she knew them better than they knew themselves. Even though the frost obscured her vision and the oxygen masks covered most of their faces, she could name each of them. They would have to be renamed of course. They’d be given code names to use here. All traces of their old life would need to be left behind and that included erasing their memories. Physically, they would change as well. The serum would cause some alterations, as would the intensive training they would be put through. Mentally, they wouldn’t be all that different. The majority of the specimens she currently observed showed no changes in their personality after their memories were erased.

As she imagined what these boys would become under her supervision, the scientist smirked, one corner of curling upward. The simple movement distorted her beauty and for a moment, the darkness she normally kept hidden was evident on her face.

“I can’t wait to see what fantastic creations you become.”

Chapter 13: Hmm. This was a really interesting story and I'm intrigued by how everything has unfolded but it certainly feels incomplete, so to that end, I do hope that you consider a sequel at some point. There are quite a few more questions left unanswered and I'm especially curious as to what these 'special' trainees are meant for in terms of the 'potential' war and all that jazz. You have yet to address the concern of them being unaware of being in cages or even escaping them as you indicated in your foreword so that part is somewhat misleading since there is, as yet, not actual conclusion.

Bravo for pulling the story together with the creativity you have! It's quite engaging and leaves a lot of room for imagination. I can only begin to theorize how things might go from here, especially since they haven't actually met Sol yet. Or GD for that matter. >.> I will say, good luck with your future writing and I hope you find time to come back and add on to this. ^_^ Good job!

Chapter 10: I love the diversity of abilities you've been incorporating so far, but my question would be, how do the scientists know when they've discovered them? You've established that the people aren't really monitored so much so how exactly do the get notified of the change?

I'm also enjoying the lack of cliches such as the boys not being overpowered at any given time. It's interesting that just learning their ability is enough to make others afraid of them, though. And I'm curious what's going to happen to V.I. now that the other two have been 'found'.

That was cool with the whole simulation room too. Gotta love science fiction stuff. hehe And D-Lite's vision was fascinating. I'm doubly curious now about these women in Top's and D-Lite's past. The setup for the 'outside' being contaminated is intriguing and I'm wondering if it's not just a ruse to make the more willing to stay within the confines of the building. Some questions answered and more created. haha Let's see what comes up next!

Chapter 7: So things are getting more and more interesting. I loved the brief information about both GD and Sol and that whole tournament story. Fascinating power you gave to Sol there. ;) I'm still wondering how the kid died/was killed but I guess the tournament can be a rather frightening and dangerous place. Likewise for the training facility itself since they are only loosely observed and 'cared for'. I say this with the whole bullying aspect in mind. >.>

I am glad to see that sort of parallel though with Sol and GD and then between V.I., Top, and D-Lite. Makes for an interesting dichotomy between them with a couple having already found their powers and the rest still working on it. That is another system I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around: the way and time in which abilities appear. It feels both systematic (regularly showing up with one person every month or so) but also random as happened with the three in a month, so I am unsure what to think. >.>

But I am glad to hear the boys (mostly) are continuing to question and may yet find more answers before long. I have a feeling the tournament just might prompt something shortly. haha As for the telling of this chapter, I think you handled it well, though a little more outside description of how Taz is telling the story could be fun. It sounds like he would be excited in his recounting so I could totally see him gesturing and pantomiming to help illustrate his words. ;) lol

Chapter 4: I guess partially answers my previous question. Hmm... And Taz! Oh no. T_T Trouble indeed.

I was a bit surprised by the vehemence with which D-Lite pushed against V.I.'s ideas but I guess it is strange and frightening. Then again, I'm not sure how long either of them were there before they got to know each other so he could just be more indoctrinated than V.I. *shrug* You've definitely got the curious maknae down though. hehe Stirring things up and making waves to good effect. Woot! And now he's off to the rescue (hopefully).

I only saw a slight misuse of then versus than at one point but otherwise, the writing is solid. Huzzah! ^_^

Chapter 3: Quick question! I know their memories have been wiped, but does that mean they remember absolutely nothing before the training rooms or were they given false memories? And if they have no memories, I find it odd that none of them question the lack of back stories. lol

Otherwise, I'm liking V.I. hehe The scene where he's slumped over his desk was particularly entertaining. And you've particularly sparked my interest with T.O.P. and this mystery woman he is somehow able to recall. I don't know why she'd say such things to him, but all in due time! It makes for an interesting plot point, if nothing else. Let's see what happens next!

Also, a part of me feels bad for Taz because he's in the group but not and I have to wonder if something bad is going to happen to him. >.>

Chapter 2: Hmm. I guess I'll have to re-evalute my thoughts on 'perfect' specimens given D-Lite's condition. I'm also a little thrown about their unwillingness to investigate these visions further. Also, do V.I. and D-Lite never touch? If they do, would there not be a chance of having other visions? And... what do these visions entail? You tell us they happen but we're not actually shown anything relative to where they are now. What does 'same place, same time' encompass? Are they in the future? What's going on? lol I feel so in the dark! T_T

But still fascinated regardless. It felt a little repetitious with the 'he's' at the beginning though the description of the area was lovely. So now we've got three out of five together and I'm curious when we'll meet the rest and what changes they will bring. Still have lots of questions but I'll refrain for the time being. hehe

Going to the next chapter!

Chapter 1: So you've definitely caught my attention thus far. It's an interesting setup and though you're a little repetitious with your descriptions and word choices sometimes, I appreciate the details to give us a better look at the world they're in. Your foreword is similarly intriguing and I have to wonder (beyond the song prompting) of why these five boys are so special. hehe

I'm curious too about this whole ability thing and the cage setting that none of them realize they're in. It'll be interesting seeing how it unfolds. I like the way that V.I. and T.O.P. have this sort of connection that they share (like V.I. and his roommate) though it's odd too. Are they the only ones that have such reactions and I suppose I'll see why they're having them eventually. Likely it's something to do with their previous life before the training facility.

Onward to more! I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out. And especially to finding out just what powers our boys have. lol
