Foreword
The weather was pleasantly warm on this early summer day. A slight, cool breeze played daintily with the large trees that lined deep within the forest. Brown leaves danced around the sky as an old woman with a basket linked on her arm passed by. "She's coming," she whispered to the trees. The wind gently howled in reply. She picked up a bread crumb below her feet and placed it inside her basket. A few more bread crumbs were on the floor of the forest, and she took each one as she passed by. Those crumbs served as her guide so she wouldn't get lost. The forest was a mysterious place; you’ll run around in circles without even realizing it. The woman smiled when a little squirrel ran and snatched the bread crumb she was about to pick up. It nibbled on the crumb it stole; she patted the little creature’s head and continued following the track of bread crumbs that she purposely dropped earlier.
Watching the old woman’s every movement from a large mirror hanging on her stone wall; Jessica grinned and folded her arms. “Seo Dae darling, such a pity you’ve aged. You and your pathetic little army—I shall crush you all and feed your bones to my loyal wolves.” She made a cruel chuckle. She was wearing a simple black dress, covering most of her skin. She had very brown eyes, peach skin and an awful lot of dark make-up. The evil enchantress walked past a tall, mahogany table. Floating on top of it stood a glowing black rose, preserved inside a large crystal jar. She lived in the tower at the tip of the tallest, mistiest mountain far beyond the forest.
Every day she would consult her magic mirror, “Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest, most evil, and most powerful of them all?” In fear, the mirror would always reply:
“In the land of Rosabithia, you are, my queen.
For you have destroyed it—thus you are the most evil this land has ever seen.
As for the fairest of them all, I must say it is also you,
For you have fed every last maiden to your loyal wolves.
But most powerful, you come in second I see,
Outside your evil barrier lives the most powerful, Seo Dae.
She will, one day, succeed her pledge,
Her oath to banish you forever, but not as revenge.”
It was no ordinary magic mirror, an old man was held prisoner inside of it. Before he was captured, he used to live inside the forest and was called “The Wise Eye” for he could predict the future and foresee everything that was happening within the forest. Jessica could only scoff at his response, and gazed once more into her magic mirror and watched the old woman closely.
A pair of yellow, glowing eyes was staring at the old woman from a distance. The bushes rattled and Seo Dae grimaced at that direction—she knew one of the evil enchantress’s wolves was stalking her. She walked away and slowly vanished from the path. Sensing that the woman's presence was gone, a large, greyish-white wolf, standing on its four hind legs jumped out from the bushes where it hid. The wolf began to sniff the trees. The wind passed by the wolf's face and whispered the message into its ears. Its eyes widened, its ears twitched and its sharp teeth peeked slightly from its long jaw. “She’s coming,” the wind echoed. The wolf bent down and ran on its four legs with all the force it was able to muster, running farther into the depths of the forest, and engulfed his form.
