I awoke to the sound of curtains being pulled open. The morning sun that was hidden behind made itself apparent as it shone on my face. I groaned softly, still half-asleep. Then I felt weight being put on the other side of the bed. 

I squinted my eyes open and shielded my eyes from the sun, to see Kris smiling at me. My beautiful husband who I love so much. I couldn't help but smile back at him. 

"Good morning, sunshine," he said in his deep voice. 

"Good morning," I replied in a murmur. 

From my eyes, he looked almost angelic. Well he was already handsome enough. But with the light shining against his back. And with that smile of his, I reminded myself of how lucky I was to have someone like Kris. 

"Do you know what today is?" He asked.

"Of course I do."

How could I forget? It was our anniversary. Our first anniversary, to be more exact. I wasn't sure what Kris had planned for us today. And that's what was even better: It would be a total surprise for me. I knew that whatever he had chosen to do, I would be 100% okay with it. As for me, I was ashamed to say that I wasn't exactly sure what I'd do for the love of my life. I had an afternoon in the park in my mind. Maybe we could have a picnic together under a shady tree and skip stones by the lake. That would be romantic and memorable.

Kris leaned closer to me. At that instant I knew what he was doing and I let our lips meet. It was a gentle kiss. One that made me feel safe.

"Jessica, wait right here." He stood up from his position on the bed and rushed out of the room and down the stairs. I couldn't help but notice how his hair was messy from sleeping and how his sweatpants were hanging on the low side. I smirked. 

A matter of seconds later, he returned with a small, wrapped bag. I sat up in bed in excitement and he sat down next to me and gave me a kiss on the cheek before handing me the bag. "We've been together like this for a year now, and I hope for more years to come. Never forget that I love you with all my heart."

Speechless, I pulled out the wrapping from the bag. There were a few smaller boxes inside. I pulled out the bigger one first and opened it carefully. I could feel Kris breathing nearby me. Inside the first box were six square slots, each holding an even smaller box wrapped with an elegant brown ribbon. I took out the box all the way to the left and unwrapped it carefully before actually opening it. There was a J-shaped chocolate inside. I smiled in delight. 

"Look under the lid first." Kris said from beside me.

I picked up the lid of the miniature box I had opened and looked underneath it. In a gold calligraphy, it read "For Jessica: My one and only." The smile on my face only grew.

"I had them made especially for you." He informed me before wrapping his arms around my neck and leaning his head against mine. Kris always had a way of making me feel amazing.

As I looked through the other five slots and their boxes, I saw that they all contained different pastries, and under the lids were personalized messages from him to me.

In the second box that was in the bag was a ring. It was beautiful, with diamonds around the border. Underneath it was the date of our anniversary engraved on it: 5.25.12. I felt slightly bad that he had done so much for me, but that is what every girl wants after all. To be spoiled by the one they love. And anyways, it was our day.

"Kris," I began in total awe. "You're incredible...Thank you." I turned around to face him and gave him another kiss. I couldn't ask of anything more from him.

I pulled my knees close to my chest and the covers slid down, revealing my body, only covered in a white, fitted camisole and my . Yes, Kris and I often slept in our underwear. No, this was not some kind of relationship built up on . He noticed my exposed skin and brushed his hand on my outer thigh. I reached up to pull his face to mine and we kissed once more. But this kiss became more than what was just a peck on the lips. He deepened the kiss and I followed, and soon after, we were both lying on the bed, my head rested on his chest as he carressed the lower half of my body. I really did love him so much. We remained there for about twenty more minutes, completely forgetting about the time. Right now it was just the two of us.

Finally I pulled myself up and off of my husband. It must have been around noon by now, and if I wanted to have a nice day at the park with him, we should get going before it's past lunchtime. "Go take a shower, babe," I suggested. He rolled off the bed and nodded in assent before running his fingers through his hair and heading over to the bathroom. Once he was gone, I went over to my closet to find something to wear.

"Jeans?" I asked myself. "Not for today. I'll go with a dress or a skirt." In the end I ended up pulling out a blue sleeveless v-neck dress that reached my mid-thigh. It had small red and white flowers on it along with a dark brown braided belt under the chest area. It was casual yet cute and I felt it would suit the day-at-the-park mood. I also wore black sandals with it. 

I after ran downstairs to the kitchen. I grabbed a large bag and set it on the counter. In it I stuffed a large blanket for us to sit on, then I grabbed a few things from the pantry to make hot dogs for me and Kris. I made four just in case he was that hungry. I also packed up fruits like watermelon, blueberries, and strawberries. Then, just because it was our day, I brought the best bottle of wine that we had gotten at our wedding. I packed up cheese and crackers too. It would be lovely.

I heard footsteps from upstairs and I stuffed everything inside the bag and hid it in the corner. "Kris!" I called, running upstairs. He was going inside the room with a towel wrapped around his waist. . 

"Yes?"

I hurried up to him and placed my hands on his waist. "Get ready, we're going to the park today."
