Chapter 1
Sunshine
Rain fell from the sky like crazy while thunder and lighting seemed to be having a party within the heavens. Nights like this you loved, you've always had a love and fascination for thunderstorms, as loud and hectic as they would get you were always at peace when the dark clouds came rolling in. But tonight was different, you stood outside your hotel digging through your purse searching frantically for your access card, you looked up and glared at the access pad on the door. "What kind of hotel does this!?" you shouted angrily.
You were staying at some fancy Hotel in Japan were after 12am all the doors locked and only those who either knew someone within or had their access card could enter. When you booked this placed you thought Oh no problem forgetting that you were a very forgetful person. On top of that waiting around for someone to come in so you could just follow after was looking rather slim since it was going on 1am and storming outside.
You banged your head against the glass door frowning pitifully, you knew you should have came back earlier but all the sight seeing you were doing in Japan just seemed far more important at the time. You were now hungry, tired, and soak'n wet and also starting to think that you had to pee. You leaned back from the door and stared up at the cloudy night sky as large rain drops beat down onto your face with no mercy. You couldn't really feel the intensity of each drop because you were so cold your face was going numb. "Well at least it's not hailing..." You mumbled trying to be optimistic.
A bright flash of lighting covered the sky and flickered a little bit longer than the others turning the sky an electric purple. Even in the crappy situation you were in you still couldn't resist from smiling while taking in its beauty. "Woww~" you sighed lifting your sleeve up to wipe your face but it didn't do much help because that was soaked too.

Onew ran through the rain quickly trying to get to his shelter for the night, he held his hoodie tight over his head and tried to protect the bag of goodies bundled up in his coat from getting wet. "Aish! They would send me out for snacks and then it suddenely storms!". Onew had left his group members back in the hotel after losing a battle of Kai Bai Bo for who would run and get the late night munchies.
He had only been gone for maybe 15 minutes before the storm hit, he cursed himself for throwing scissors in the last round as he looked both ways before running across the street. Onew hopped onto the sidewalk almost slipping on the wet pavement before looking up and seeing you gazing at the sky in awe. Onew stopped and watched you for second and followed your stare to the angry clouds.. What is she looking at? "Ow!" he looked down away from the sky rubbing his eye after a raindrop attacked it.
Onew approached the hotel eyeing you cautiously, you looked pretty strange staring at the sky completely soaked. He passed you looking at you from the corner of his eye digging his access card out of his back pocket. You caught his glance and quickly looked at him scaring and stopping him in his tracks. Your eyes lit up the moment you saw the little white card in his hand, Onew stared at you dumbfounded and pulled his hoodie over his head some more starting towards the door again.
"You live here!?.. well ,stay here?" You asked, hope feeling your body at the thought of finally being able to get in. Onew gave you the slightest nod then flashed his card over the access pad. You rushed over towards him quickly trying to get in after him but Onew stopped, holding his hand out, "I'm sorry miss, but you should go home.." Onew was starting to think you were some crazy fan, but you seem more interested in getting inside vs. freaking out over seeing him.
"I do live here!" you exclaimed pointing to yourself, "I just forgot my access card in my room.."
Onew wasn't buying it and wasn't about to take responsibility for letting a crazy in. You could tell by his face that he wasn't believing you so you dug in your purse looking for your hard copy of your room key. You pulled it out and held it in his face, "See! I stay in room 1601!"
Onew's eye widened and he pushed the door open letting you pass, "I'm sorry.."
You walked in and pushed some of your wet hair out of your face, "Thank you" you breathed rubbing your arms. Onew bowed a little and you ran towards the elevator pushing the button repeatedly ready to get up to your room. There was a ding and the doors opened, you stepped in and looked for the guy who had just let you in. Onew was making his way toward the elevator when you waved him in. "Come on! what's your floor?" you called out the doors holding it open with your foot. Onew saw you waiting for him and hurried over, "16 please" you nodded pressing the button letting the doors close once he was in.
You rode in silence for the two floors before you looked at him, you hadn't got a good look of his face and you still couldn't really see now with him holding his head down. "Um, Thanks again.. I can be so forgetful sometimes..". Onew looked up with a faint smile, "Its okay.. seems like you got pretty wet, if I knew you were waiting for me I would have came earlier" he joked looking at the water that continued to drip off you to the floor.
You laughed and gave him an embarrassed smile, "Well thanks anyways.."
Onew nodded shifting his weight, he stole a few glances at you and was sure that if you knew him you would have recognized him by now. He pushed his damp hoodie off his head patting his hair, you turned and looked at his sudden movement and couldn't believe that you hadn't noticed just how handsome he was, you felt a sudden urge to ask his name.
"Umm what's you-" you were cut off by the ding of the elevator, you looked up and saw that you were at your floor now, 7. Onew looked at you waiting for you to get off, you moved towards the door but it hadn't opened yet. You both glanced at eachother before you heard a loud crack of thunder and the elevator shaking in its wake. You gasped looking up at the flickering light trying to catch your balance.
Onew had stumbled a bit dropping his bag of snacks to the floor, "What the.." before he could finish his sentence the lights went out completely.
You backed yourself up against a wall gripping the rail searching wide eyed through the darkness, you really weren't one to be scared easily but something about being trapped in a dark elevator was always an eerie thought.
Onew pulled his cellphone of his pocket and flashed some light in your direction penetrating the darkness , "Are you okay?" You nodded your head loosening your grip on the rail behind you. "You?" Onew nodded back looking at the elevator doors. "Looks like the power went out.. I guess we're stuck till it comes back on." he said squatting down placing his phone on the floor so it could light up more of the small space.
You groaned, "Why me~" you heard Onew laugh a little "Why me?!" he echoed. The sound of a rapper being pulled off some food brought your attention to him on the floor. He was sitting down legs crossed stuffing some Japanese snack into his mouth. He figured he'd take this chance to eat all good flavored ones as an act of revenge towards s for sending him out. You watched him dig into the bag pulling out another. Onew felt your eyes on him and looked up smiling. You swore it had just got 10x brighter in the room.
"At least we have food" he said handing you a rice cake. You stared at him for a moment trying to figure out why he still seemed so happy. "and I thought I was optimistic.." you mumbled kneeling down taking the snack from his hands.
You opened the rice cake biting into it sloppily then dropping it back into your lap sighing. "I'm so tired.." . Onew nodded while chowing down on the food in his mouth. "I've had a long day too.." He tapped his phone so the light would stay on.
Even in this dimly lit space you could still make out the handsome planes of his face, you watched him chewing on your food slowly. The thought of knowing his name came back to your mind as you rose your snack back to your mouth getting ready to take another bite.
"Whats yo-" you were cut off once again but by him this time.
"My name's Onew by the way" he looked up at you with a wide beautiful smile, and you almost choked on the cake going down your throat. You dropped your head coughing then swallowing hard. Onew leaned towards you concerned "Are you okay?" he asked reaching for your shoulder. You nodded your head clearing your throat, does this happen to everyone he smiles at?
Onew leaned back against his side of the wall seeing you were fine, "Don't die on me now" he laughed at his comment before grabbing another goodie from the bag. You laughed a little too thinking about how that would be right out of a horror movie, "I'll try not too".
You sat up some getting a little more comfortable, "Onew...", He looked at you after saying his name. His name sounded really weird to you and you couldn't help but question it. "Your name is.. mhhm different..?" you didn't know how to really question it without coming off as rude.
"That's why I like it" He answered, "and your name?"
You pushed some hair behind your ear introducing yourself and Onew repeated your name too, "I like it". You looked up smiling, "Aw thank you!" you gushed.
"It's different" Onew added. You scratched your head now not sure if it was a complement anymore, "Oh.. thanks?". Onew laughed at your reaction as a random thought came across his mind. "What were you staring at earlier?"
You tilted your head to the side caught off guard by his sudden question, "What?"
"When you were outside, what were you looking at?"
You thought back and asked yourself, what was I looking at? by the time you finished asking yourself the question you remembered the electric purple lighting flash. "Ohhh, the sky" you answered simply biting back into your rice cake.
Onew looked at you thinking no duh Sherlock, "What for?" he pressed. He didn't know why he was so curious about this, but the image of you standing in the rain was for some reason stuck in his head.
"Have you ever just looked at a thunder storm?.. the lighting in it is always amazing" you mused thinking back to it. Onew rested his head against the wall thinking, "Nope."
You ate the last bite of your rice cake, "Well you should try it once, I promise you won't be disappointed"
Onew wiped some crumbs from his face, "Okay, it's on my to do list now" Onew stared at you looking at your soaked coat, "Aren't you gonna take that off?"
You looked to both sides of yourself trying to figure out just who he was talking too and what exactly did he mean. Onew saw the confusion on your face and realized he sounded like a trying to undress you. He quickly waved his hands in front of himself, "No no no not like that! I was just saying cause your jacket is so wet!"
You exhaled a breath you didn't know you were holding and you both laughed awkwardly, "Oh okay thanks for clearing that up, I was starting to think I got stuck in a elevator with the wrong type of guy!"
Onew shook his head wide eyed, "Never! I'm not like that!"
"So your gay." you answered looking at him seriously.
Onew gasped as his eye's got even bigger, "Wha.." he was lost for words.
"I'm just joking!" you laughed throwing your rapper at him. Onew held his expression, "But I am.."
Your jaw dropped and you began to feel bad, "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry!" you exclaimed.
You stared at him almost not believing it but he was holding such a straight face, until a smile starting tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Am I really that good of a liar?" he asked before bursting into laugher leaving you gawking at him for a second before it registered in your head that he was joking.
"Oh my gosh! Onew! I totally believed you!" you said grabbing your chest cause he gave you such a shock.
"You should have seen your face, I thought I was gonna have to pick your jaw up from the floor!" Onew was holding his stomach cracking up.
"Hey!!" You pointed at him, "and you should have saw your face when I said you were!" you copied his face opening your eyes as wide as you could. Onew started up a whole new roar of laughter, "I didn't look like that!". You shook your head, "Yes you did!" you made the face once more.
Onew laughed again throwing his head back and there was a loud thud. He reached up for his head grabbing the spot that hit the wall still laughing. "Opps" he chuckled rubbing it. You laughed but couldn't help but think that this man was probably the cutest thing you've ever seen.
You started to pull off your coat still smiling at his dorkiness, "Your really funny, you know?"
Onew looked at you smiling, and you momentarily stopped taking off your jacket just so you could look at it.
"Really? my friends don't seem to think so." He pulled a water bottle out of the bag cracking it open and pouring some into his mouth without putting his lips on it then passed it over to you.
"Honestly, and you friends must have no sense of humor then" you said grabbing the bottle then doing the same before giving it back to him. Onew nodded, "I don't think they do either."
You eyed Onew for a moment being thankful you got stuck in a elevator with someone not only handsome with a killer beautiful smile but was also funny, just my luck!
You pushed you coat into the corner but you both nearly jumped out of your skin when your phone went off. You looked up at Onew wondering where the noise was coming from but follow his eyes to your coat pocket that was now lighting up. "Oh! its me!" you laughed. Onew shook his head smiling as you pulled your phone out of your coat.
"Anndddd it's just my alarm clock.. because no one cares about me while I'm stuck in a elevator!" you ed locking your phone dropping it in your lap.
Onew couldn't help but smile at your little outburst, he tapped his phone on the floor again to keep the light on, "Orrr because we have no reception in here.." he laughed.
"Really?" you asked checking your phone, and sure enough there was zero bars at the top. "Well then.." you concluded.
"but why do you have an alarm set at like 1 something in the morning?" Onew thought that was pretty weird.
"It was supposed to be for PM.. but I tend to get them mixed up" you admitted dropping your phone back in your lap. Onew cocked a eyebrow at you, "You get your AM's and PM's mixed up?" he asked for clarification.
You nodded, "Yep, that and my left and rights, don't ask. I don't know what's wrong with me either" you shrugged. Onew looked at you for a while before laughing, "Now your really funny!"
You shook your head acknowledging your own weirdness, "I know I know."
"If it makes you feel better I was like that too.. when I was a kid" he laughed again, and you scowled "I take back what I said.. your not funny."
"I'm just joking, plus I think that's kinda cute.. in a weird way?" he smiled at you again, making you forget his last joke.
Onew thought back to your phone going off and remembered the tone, he was sure it was Beyonce and that triggered his next random question.
"What kind of music do you like?"
You glanced him thinking where does he get these questions from but you answered anyways. "Anything really.. I guess you could say I take to R&B the most, but honestly good music is good music right?" Onew liked your way of thinking and thought about telling you about the kind of music he makes.
"You?" you asked. You watched his face as he looked like he went into deep thought. "Don't blow a fuse thinking now" you joked. You both laughed and Onew shook his head, She really is funny. Onew was really liking how relaxed he felt around you for you to be a complete stranger.
"I like good music too.. but do you know Kpop?"
"Pop yah.. who doesn't?"
"Noo, K-Pop" Onew broke down. You shook your head, "Err..no.."
Onew nodded as decided he would tell you who he was, he couldn't help himself. There was something about you that made him feel like he could tell you anything plus you obviously had no clue, "It's Korean pop music.. I'm a artist myself." Onew waited for your reaction, but you only nodded with a 'not bad' look on your face, "Cool~" You were just going along with it still not sure where he was going. "Like a real artist?" you asked.
Onew smiled, "Yah, I'm in a group, SHINee"
This is starting to sound interesting you thought. "So your in a Korean boy group?"
Onew nodded smiling rather proud. "I don't believe you.." you said narrowing your eyes at him. Onew looked at you shocked, "Really" he pointed to your phone, "You can look us up.. SHINee with two e's, were actually here touring in Japan."
You scoffed and pulled your phone out, "Let's see Mr. Onew.." you mumbled typing in the name of his group. You clicked on the first link and began to read. 'Shinee is a South Korean contemporary R&B boy group formed by SM Entertainment in 2008. The group consists of Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin.' You eyes widen as you began to read faster, 'Since their debut, Shinee has released three full-length albums, four mini-albums, one live album and various singles. They have also won many awards, held a concert tour and starred in their own reality shows.' There was picture of them to the right and Lord behold there was 5 handsome boys but one stuck out to you, the one with the drop dead gorgeous smile, Onew.
"So you mean to tell me I've been sitting in a elevator with a Asian pop star and I had no clue." You looked at Onew with a dumbstruck face, as it all started to make sense. There was simply no way someone as handsome as him wasn't famous. "Oh my gosh.." you almost whispered. "This is seriously coolest thing thats ever happened to me" you laughed. "Oh my goshh..." you repeated again looking at him.
Onew smiled, he like your reaction you were impressed but not spazzing on him. "So you make like R&B music?" Onew nodded, "For the most part yah.."
You instantly wanted to ask him a million and one questions but you didn't want to freak him out so you stayed calm and continued to scroll through Wikipedia clicking on their music track list. You saw that their latest album was titled 'Sherlock' and you looked at the songs listed suddenly wanting to hear one of them. You looked back up at Onew who was watching your every move, "Can you sing me one of your songs off your new album?"
Onew was taken back by your question, and raised his eyebrows "Right now?"
You looked around, "It's not like we're going anywhere" you laughed.
Onew cleared his throat and adjusted himself, "Okay.. which one?". You looked at the list and debated for a while and went with the song titled 'Honestly'. Onew smiled brightly, "Great choice..". You felt your cheeks getting hot, that freaking smile.
Onew reached over to his phone tapping the light off. "What are you doing?" you asked nervously searching for his handsome face. You heard him shift some, "I can't sing with you looking at me.."
You looked in the darkness in disbelief, "Seriously? cause you don't do this on a daily basis."
Onew tapped the light back on, "I don't sing to pretty girl's while I'm trapped on a elevator in the dark very often." He made a cute face before smiling and felt like you couldn't breath. Onew tapped the light back off and you were thankful. Another second of his smile and you probably would have burst. Did he just call me pretty.. You turned red as you silently freaked out in your head.
Onew cleared his throat again and started. You were instantly pulled from your mini fangirl session the moment you heard him open his mouth to sing. You cocked your head to the side and stared into the darkness as a beautiful voice filled the room carrying a heartfelt melody. Am I hearing this right..
You couldn't explain the feelings that were building up in you as he continued to sing. Joy, excitement, passion, moved, love? His voice was evoking so many emotions you didn't know if you wanted to smile or cry. How could you describe this? it was like even though you were in the dark you could see him clearly as his voice painted colors in the darkness. Thats it, you thought. His voice reminded you of sunshine.. sunshine after being rained on all day. That kinda of feeling to where it was just like a breath a fresh air.
You lost yourself completely in the song and his voice closing your eyes and leaning back and forth to the melody, you were seriously on cloud nine. His voice came to a stop as the song ended and he tapped the light back on. Your eyes where still closed while you listened hard for the voice that you instantly missed the moment it left your ears.
Onew looked at your face and was surprised by how peaceful you looked with your eyes closed. "You like it?" he questioned.
You opened your eyes like you were coming from a dream. "Why'd you stop?"
"The song ended.." Onew replied.
You shook your head, "Nooo~ Oh my gosh... Onew... That was beautiful." The words came out your mouth in a hushed tone still in awe.
Onew blushed at your complement, "Thank you."
"No I don't think you understand.. Onew that was literally the most beautiful thing I've ever heard." You stared at him seriously. Onew loved the way you loved his voice and almost offered to sing you another song until the elevator jolted and its bright lights came on.
You both looked around and the moment you realized the power was back on your heart sank, you didn't want to leave, you didn't want to get off yet.
There was a ding and Onew looked at doors with a pained expression. He was really enjoying himself and the thought of singing to you for a while longer sounded ideal. He's sang for many people but he's never seen anyone look the way you did when he finished. It was a look that made every inch in his begin tingle with happiness.
The doors opened revealing your floor and you stared at it like a foreign place not wanting to enter. You and Onew looked at each other, and in this light you realized how brilliantly bright and brown his eyes were and you got lost in them while he got lost in yours.
The doors closed and neither one of you moved still sitting on the floor. "I guess I missed my floor..." you whispered.
"That's alright.." Onew answered.
Your brain quickly calculated the amount of time you had left before the doors of parting would open again. 9 floors. You missed your floor but you knew you couldn't say in there forever, even if that didn't sound bad at the time. You stood up stretching and Onew watched you before doing the same also counting down the time till another decision had to be made. 8 floors.
"Well this by far was best elevator ride ever" Onew laughed bending down to pick up all the rappers from the food you guys ate. You smiled and knelt down to help him reaching out for the balled up paper that you had thrown at him earlier. You smiled and thought about keeping it but instead you just handed it Onew so he could put it in the bag. 6 floors.
You both got up and adjusted your clothes, 5 floors. "Well umm.." you raked your brain for the proper words as you guys got closer to your goodbye. Onew glanced at the number the elevator was on and felt like he was watching a ticking bomb. He looked back at you and also felt like he was wasting time. Your eyes were downcast as for the first time of this ride you were lost for words. 2 floors.
Onew's voice called your name bring you back to reality, "It'd be amazing if we met again.. I really like you." You looked at him and both of your guys cheeks flushed from the words that just left his mouth, "I feel the same way" you said pushing some hair behind your ear smiling like a fool.
Ding.
You both stared at each other as the doors opened again, and Onew hesitantly moved towards the opening. You felt like your heart was being stomped on with each step he took towards the door. He stepped off the elevator and instantly wanted to get back in. But he turn to you and smiled. He smiled bright and big thinking optimistically that he was incredibly lucky to meet you.
You basked in his smile like sunshine as it sent waves of warmth through your body, you knew for sure that that smile would forever be etched into your memory as the doors closed at a painfully slow pace shutting him out like a dream.
