Days turned into weeks after Kai confessed to Jooyeon, and it was already a full month after that incident happened. He remained attentive and caring towards Jooyeon, proving to be the best boyfriend any girl could get, but Jooyeon just didn't really feel the spark between them.
And especially after that unfortunate incident with Himchan, Jooyeon didn't want to make decisions quickly nor hastily without thinking it through thoroughly lest she made the same mistake.
Sehun and Sunmi were progressing rather well on the other hand. Sehun had managed to get Sunmi to accept him fetching her to school everyday even though he had to wake up an hour earlier because of that.
It came to a surprise to Jooyeon when Sehun told her that because if there was one thing the EXO-K maknae loved most, it was sleep. And apparently Sunmi topped the charts right now.
There were moments when Sunmi would blush at Sehun's intent gaze, where she would avoid his eyes like she was an embarrassed lovesick teenager, and Sehun would hope fervently that she would accept him. He would always whine about it, asking her to be his girlfriend the first thing every morning when he picked her up, but Sunmi would always give the same reply. "I don't date juniors."
Despite the not entirely encouraging response from the girls, Kai and Sehun couldn't help but be jumpy when the pink and red romantic day finally arrived: Valentines.
They could always identify the fateful day even if they had been locked up in a cupboard for a year with no watch and no way to find out how much time passed, because when they reached the school, they would be bombarded and attacked by the numerous fan girls that hurled themselves at the boys with great ferocity.
"Oh man. Seoul girls are so much more scarier than Daegu ones." Sehun muttered under his breath as he had gotten more than twenty confessions since he walked from the school gate till his locker.
Kai sighed and rubbed his temples. "You just have to get used to it then maknae." he muttered as he got his 37th confession of the day and kindly rejected the girl.
"I wonder why the girls are still confessing to us even though we've made it clear that we like Sunmi and Jooyeon noona." Sehun tapped his chin in wonder.
"That's because the girls haven't accepted you yet. You're still effectively single." Suho told them wisely.
The two maknaes of Exo looked at their leader that had arrived together with the other members of Exo-k, their arms full with hand made chocolate, cards and gifts. "The girls haven't accepted you yet?" Chanyeol asked. "Aye.." he shook his head in fake disappointment teasingly.
Sehun threw a teddy bear at the deep voiced hyung. "If you knew how hard it was to get Sunmi noona to forget I'm younger than her, you'll be so frightened that you'll run all the way to the north pole." he grumbled.
"Speaking of which," D.O. added, his mouth stuffed with chocopies that the girls had given him (smart girls that tended to his liking). "Where are noonas? Haven't they appeared with chocolate?"
The sarcastic prince looked at D.O. up and down and snorted in disgust at the way D.O. was gobbling the chocopies. "Even if they did, I doubt they'd have anything for you D.O." Baekhyun rolled his eyes.
On the other hand, the SHINee boys were facing a similar situation, trying to walk through the crowd with girls trying to stuff more and more gifts into their already full hands.
"I like Valentines." Jonghyun grinned. "It boosts my confidence."
Minho rolled his eyes at the dino hyung and his retardness. "Oh gosh." he shook his head, too disgusted to speak.
Key shrugged in his diva manner. "What's wrong? I agree with Jjong." he said frankly. "Don't you think receiving so much gifts that you could open a department store boosts your confidence?"
Jonghyun grinned at his yeobo and they tried to high five with their hands full of gifts: failure really.
Taemin looked around expectantly for the only girl he wished to receive chocolate from. He had read the future and he knew what was going to happen, but that didn't stop him from anticipating. Because now that he knew how the love he felt in real life differed from how he felt it in those flashes, he knew feelings were multiplied tenfold in real life.
"She's here!" Onew managed to choke up as a girl had given him a marriage certificate, yes MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE as a Valentines gift.
Taemin whipped his head to the side and saw Jooyeon and Sunmi walking shyly down the hallways. The pink tints were obvious as she avoided the curious looks other people were giving her as she hauled the large sack with her on her shoulder.
The EXO-K members who were not more than ten metres away from where the SHINee boys were, also straightened up when the girls arrived, nudgint Kai and Sehun like the childsih boys they were.
Jooyeon and Sunmi reached EXO-K first, since they were standing nearer. "Happy Valentines day boys!" Jooyeon cheered, smiling brightly. Kai felt his heart skip a beat as she reached into the sack and pulled out a box of chocolate, handing it to him.
"Happy Valentines, Kai." she smiled. Kai gulped, his heart racing. She made him chocolate. Him.
His happiness was slightly reduced when she reached into the bag again and took out another box of chocolate, handing it to Baekhyun. Then Chanyeol. Then Suho and D.O. And even for her younger brother Sehun in the end.
*She made chocolate for all of us.* Kai sighed. He gripped the box tightly anyway, glad that he had something rather than nothing. Sunmi did the same as Jooyeon, except she made cookies instead. Sehun didn't seem to mind that she gave all the EXO-K boys cookies instead of only him, and leapt around happily. "SUNMI NOONA GAVE ME COOKIES!" he squealed.
Jooyeon rolled her eyes at her brother and glanced hesitantly at SHINee. She shuffled over and smiled, avoiding Taemin's eyes for reasons she didn't know how. Somehow, she didn't trust herself to look at him in the eye especially on this romantic day.
She handed her chocolates out to the four SHINee members and hesitated. Taemin looked and at her curiously waited, knowing that she would give it to him in the end but still getting excited.
"Erm.. Taemin oppa." she approached him at last after a whole lot of thinking. "Happy Valentines day."
She stuffed the chocolate in his hands and murmured an excuse before running off. Taemin looked at her running and smiled. *She blushed.*
And suddenly that box of chocolate in his hands seemed so different from everyone else's.
It was raining when it was time to get home. The juniors had to stay back for some briefing so she couldn't go home with Sehun as well.
She sighed and stayed at the bus stop after alighting from the bus and wondering if she should just run home in the rain.
She spun round and saw Taemin smiling at her softly with a large red umbrella in his hands.
"Taemin oppa." she blinked in surprise.
Taemin chuckled and went over to her, smiling affectionately down at her. "You knew it'd rain." Jooyeon blurted. Taemin nodded with a smile. "Getting used to the usefulness of my powers now?" he grinned.
He opened the large umbrella and Jooyeon scooted over to his side as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder, steering her in the rain. His arm felt safe around her shoulders, shielding her from the rain and Jooyeon couldn't help but notice how he'd tilt the umbrella over to her side so that she wouldn't get wet.
She pushed the umbrella straight up so that it would cover Taemin as well. Taemin looked at her curiously and she wrinkled her nose at him. "You didn't need to come, Taemin oppa." she told him. "You could have just slipped an umbrella into my bag like the last time you did. It's so troublesome having to come here to fetch me home."
Taemin looked at her for a few moments before asking a question that knocked all air out of her lungs.
"Can't I just want to see you?"
It skipped. Her heart. It skipped.
