Alternative Ending
The Irony of Dongho(Again, this ending might confuse you, and it's only, as the title suggests, an alternative. About the ending, I'm actually not sure about the answers myself. Haha :) Read on if you want too!)
The interrogator frowned, the detectives surrounding him as he watched a replay of his most recent encounter. The boy, Shin Dongho, had been charged with murder, yet he had committed suicide before they could learn anything else. The police thought they could leave it there, but the interrogator knew better. There was more to this Shin Dongho case.
‘I showed him a picture of himself,’ he said, turning to the two detectives, ‘He told me that was AJ.’
‘AJ?’ One of them asked.
‘Kim Jaeseop was his more common name. He was a famous singer way back in 1942. He died in a house fire on the 30th March when a crazy fan stalked him and lit the whole cabin on fire. The fan was never identified – it was the infamous cold case of the century.’
The other detective frowned, taking in the information. ‘Then how would this kid know Jaeseop? I mean, he’s only seventeen – what was he talking about?’ Both detectives were confused. Not many young people knew about Kim Jaeseop – in fact, the only people who really knew were seniors, police and investigators.
‘I don’t know, but I think he was imagining this AJ friend. What I don’t understand, however, is how this went unnoticed for so long – and how he managed to imagine a singer from 1942. Ironically, Kim Jaeseop went under the stage name AJ for quite awhile before making his big debut to stardom.’ The interrogator frowned, his eyes making contact with the file of Kim Jaeseop. The most infamous case of the century. The one problem he could never solve.
The second detective took the sheet of paper, scanning over the summary of the case. He looked up. ‘Kim Jaeseop died on 30th March, correct?’
The interrogator nodded, ‘Yes.’
‘And when was the first murder?’
‘30th March.’
How ironic.
