Prologue: Depictions of Eternal Love
ETERNAL LOVEPrologue: Depictions of Eternal Love
~~~~~
How could you say when a love is eternal? Is it the one bonded by marriage? Or the one tracked in the deepest part of our hearts? There were many depictions on what eternal love is.
The Urban dictionary says Eternal Love is “A feeling that is too difficult to define. a love that will last forever. True, eternal love is the most powerful thing known to anyone and anything. No power is stronger. An unbreakable bond between two soul mates destined for each other. It can never wither or die. The greatest power to ever exist. An endless, never-ending, ETERNAL love”
One of the best depictions of this kind of love is Heathcliff’s love for Catherine and vice versa in the story, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte:
“My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Healthcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.” – Catherine
Yes, they didn’t end up together but it was the mutual feeling of love that made theirs eternal. It’s like the world against them. No matter what the people around them says, they know to themselves that it was love, an eternal love. It was never-ending, never-changing and continuous mutual feeling until they die.
According to the book, Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon, “The only way to have eternal love is to never let your heart forget what it's like to live without it.” It was like living without a soul. Every second of your life, you think of surviving but your heart says no, because the one you are destined to is not there to be with you.
Eternal Love may or may not be bonded by marriage but as long as there’s this mutual feeling of affection, desire and love for two persons, then that is eternal love. It is not driven by lust. It is driven by the heart and the certain desire to be with that person forever.
