Song of My Heart

I breathed in the smell of coffee and baked goods as I walked into my favorite café, Hankyung’s and Heechul’s Café Shop. I walked up to the counter and the cashier greeted me with a smile. “Hello, welcome to Hankyung’s and Heechul’s Café shop, what would you like?” He asked me; I wonder if he ever get’s tired of asking the same question over and over again.

“A small latte and dumplings please.” I ordered my favorite thing on the menu.

He handed the latte to me and said “Dumplings will take a while. I’ll take them to once they’re done.”

I nodded at him and walked over to a table near the window and sat down pulling out a newspaper from my shoulder bag.

I could hear the worker drumming his fingers on the counter while waiting for the dumplings while I looked at the job section in the newspaper. After a couple of minutes, I hear a Chinese accented voice call out to the worker. A couple seconds later, I had a bowl of steaming hot dumplings.

“Are you looking for a job?” The worker asked me.

I looked up at him. “Yes, I am.”

“Well there’s an ice cream shop not to far from here, about a ten minute walk, and they’re hiring.” He informed me.

I felt my eyes brighten at the news. “Really?! But will they hire me?” I asked doubtfully.

He pondered for a minute. “Just tell them Kim Ryeowook sent you there.”

I beamed at him. “Thank you, Ryeowook-ssi!”

He giggled. “You’re welcome.”

I smiled again and shoved a dumpling in my mouth feeling happy and relieved. “I’m Key by the way.” I told him with my mouth full of a (delicious) dumpling.

He smiled. “Well Key if you need anything, let me know.” He said before walking back to the register when he saw another customer walk in.

I ate the rest of my dumplings and finished my latte in piece. I’m going to head to the ice cream shop right after this!!

10 minutes later

Hmm, this must be the ice cream shop. He looked at a cheerful and brightly colored store with the sign Onew’s Tasty Ice Cream! I pushed the door open, a bell chimed and I walked in.

It was fairly empty. Only about a couple of teenagers and an employee was cleaning some tables. He looked up and my breath stopped. He was one good looking man- Ah, Key! Stop it!

He walked behind the register as I walked up to him. He smiled (a breath taking one, may I add) and said “Welcome, what would you like?”

Everything just left me and I stared at him blankly.

“Hey, are you okay?” He snapped me out of my zone by snapping his fingers and his eyes were filled with concern. (Strange, he reminds me of a puppy).

“Uh, y-yeah.” I stuttered. “I’m looking for a job, and I was told to come here by a Ryeowook?” I ended up asking instead of stating.

I did notice however that at the mention of Ryeowook’s name the worker perked up (he really does remind me of a dog). “Oh, Wookie-ah?” He grinned. “Well any friend of his is my friend! I’m Jonghyun!” He told me.

I sighed in relief and smiled. “I’m Key.”

“Well Key,” He grabbed a piece of paper and handed it to me. “Well there’s the application.”

I took it and stared at it. “Don’t worry,” He said. “You’ll most likely get hired as seeing how only Onew-hyung and I work here and it’s going to get buys since it’s almost summer.”

I grinned. “Ah, than you, Jonghyun-ssi!” I bowed.

“Aw, come on now! None of that stuff!”
I grinned before heading over to a table to fill out the résumé. After a couple of minutes, I finally got everything filled out. I breathed out in relief and smiled a little while looking over everything to make sure I had everything. After making sure I had everything, I stood back up and walked up Jonghyun, who looked bored just sitting their behind the counter.

He noticed me walking towards him and he perked up and grinned. “Key!”

I chuckled at enthusiasm, it reminded of Ryeowooki-ssi. “Here.” I handed him the paper.

“Thank you! I’ll call as soon as Onew-hyung looks at it and I’ll make sure to add a couple of words to your favor!” He winked.

I felt my cheeks go warm. “Ani, Ryeowook-ssi was the one who told me about this so….”

Jonghyun beamed at the mention of Ryeowook-sii (and for some reason I felt sad… Could those two be dating?) “Ah, Wookie-ah! Such a kind and cute boy, neh?” He grinned. “I’ll make sure to tell him that you’re grateful for his help when I get home.”

They live together?… “Sure, thank you!” I smiled at him again before turning and leaving the ice cream shop.

…

It’s been a couple of days and still no call from Jonghyun. I couldn’t help but feel disappointed. I sighed. Looks like I’m going to have to find another place.

I glanced at the clock and noticed it was getting pretty late and I should leave the library now. I’m glad I finished my essay and I’ll have tomorrow to look for a job.

While walking out of the library, I heard my ring tone play out from my pocket. I grabbed my phone and looked at the caller ID. Hmm, unknown number. I shrugged and answered it anyway.

“Hello?”

“Key!!” The ever cheerful voice of Jonghyun came through and I couldn’t help but smile.

“Oh, Jonghyun!”

“Sorry that I didn’t call you sooner, but you got the job!” I couldn’t help the big grin crawl up on my face.

“Really?” I gushed out.

“Yes!” He chuckled. “Can you come tomorrow for an orientation?” He asked.

I thought for a moment if I had anything scheduled for tomorrow. Nothing that I could remember. “Sure, I’ll come by!”

“Great!”

“Thanks Jonghyun! I’ll see you tomorrow!”

“Bye Key!” He said goodbye before hanging up.

I put my phone up and smiled happily. “I got the job!” I whispered to myself. I can’t wait to tell Taeminnie! I quickly started making my way home excited to tell Taemin when I walked by my favorite café shop and saw Ryeowook-ssi still there.

I pushed the door opened and walked in. Ryeowook-ssi looked up when he heard the bell ring and when he saw me, he smiled. “Key, hey!”

I beamed. “Guess what? I got the job!”

He grinned and walked up to me. “Oh, congrats Key! I’m happy for you!” He ruffled my hair. Normally I would bit the hands off of anyone who did that, but at that moment I didn’t care.

“It’s all thanks to you!” I bowed to him. Then I stood straight again. “I’ll see you soon! Bye!” I waved to him before leaving.
