Joohyun is overwhelmed by Seoul. It is busier and louder and bigger than home. She had said with confidence that she’d be able to make the Seoul branch of their company successful, but she’s starting to doubt that. They’re just a small construction company trying to expand into a big city with bigger corporations that could easily do their job. How could she live up to her family’s name?
Joohyun laments over her tteokbokki. It’s not like home. It tastes oilier and sweeter. There isn’t enough eomuk. She misses home. Maybe she was wrong to come.
“Sorry, is there anyone sitting here?”
Joohyun looks up with a surprised yelp at the woman that’s standing before her. A beautiful young woman with fluffy cheeks and choppy brown hair and an expensive looking coat. Her eyes widen and she pushes her glasses up. “No, no!” She waves to the empty seat. “Please go ahead.”
Joohyun just thinks the woman is going to take the seat and go elsewhere, but surprisingly she sits down.
“Sajangnim, one more soju and more tteokbokki, please!” She chirps across the way. The affirmative ne comes quickly. “I hope you don’t mind. There’s nowhere else to sit and I have to get back to work soon.”
Joohyun stares in confusion. First because the woman just sits down casually, second because she is definitely from Seoul with her beautiful crisp accent, and third because she’s just casually talking to her.
The woman reaches over for a container of water and pours herself some. “Would you like some?” she offers.
Joohyun is still baffled and politely nods. Is she dreaming? She must be. Because underneath the tent of warm red flavour and fried food, she is sitting across from this beautiful woman who embodies sunshine as she smiles. It makes her heart flutter. Who is she?
As the woman drinks her water, she realises that Joohyun is staring. There’s a shy smile on her face. “Sorry again if I’m bothering you…” she kindly goes on. “If it’s a problem, I can take it to go. It’s just that it tastes much better fresh.”
Oh god, she’s so beautiful. She sounds so lovely.
“Excuse me?”
Joohyun snaps out of her haze. “It’s okay, it’s okay! I’m sorry. I just–I was startled but it’s okay for you to be here.”
Then the woman quirks her head, her lips curl at the corner. “You’re not from here are you?”
Joohyun’s eyes widen as she puts her hand to her lips, realising her mistake. “I’m not actually–” she tries to remove the satoori but she knows that she’s probably mumbling.
“It’s okay. You sound cute,” she smoothly interrupts. The corner of her eye also crinkles like she’s winking at Joohyun, which makes her even more flustered. “Girls with satoori are very cute.”
Joohyun awkwardly chuckles and pushes up her glasses. “It’s not like that…” She quickly grabs her cup of water to drink.
There’s a sweet chuckle and Joohyun lo
