Find me in the library

Time sure flies fast when a person enjoys another’s company as it  has been three months or four since Kazuha and Chaewon often met at the library. There were instances where Kazuha doesn’t show up which to say the least disappoints Chaewon, but the music major reminds herself that Kazuha wasn’t obligated to always go to the library. When there were times that Kazuha did go to the library the first thing her eyes would stare at was the table where she first saw Chaewon, but with Chaewon not being there the most she could do was pout and try her best to study. It was another day and Kazuha finds herself rushing to the library right after classes. To say that she was excited to see Chaewon was an understatement, she often had to excuse herself from her best friend, Yunjin, who was absolutely clueless to what was happening. Today was no different as she hurriedly placed her belongings inside her bag. “Do you suddenly have a date or something?” Yunjin had finally asked the question that had been on her mind ever since her best friend started ditching her. “W-what? No!” Kazuha denies, technically it wasn’t a date right? Of course it wasn’t, they were simply study buddies. “Oh? Why’s your face red then?” Yunjin teases as she nudges Kazuha. “C’mon! I told you about me and Kkura, if you’re at least seeing someone shouldn’t you let your best friend know?”

Kazuha's face turns even redder, her embarrassment evident in her flushed cheeks. "It's not like that, Yun.” She mumbles and Yunjin’s eyes sparkle. “So there is someone! Tell me about them.” She shakes Kazuha's shoulders, Kazuha in return looks away. “We're just... study buddies.” She stammers, trying to downplay the situation. Yunjin raises an eyebrow skeptically, not fully buying Kazuha's explanation. “Just study buddies, huh? You seem pretty flustered for someone who claims that they’re just studying with someone.” She teases and Kazuha playfully slaps Yunjin’s arm. “Ouch!” Yunjin reacts. “Are you sure there's not something more going on?” Somehow the slap wasn’t enough to wash away Yunjin’s playful tone. Kazuha lets out a puff of annoyance as she wears her bag. “I’m sure.” Kazuha fidgets with her bag strap, her mind racing for a response. “I’m sure we're just friends.” she finally says, hoping to keep things vague enough to avoid further questioning. Her best friend smirks, clearly enjoying Kazuha's discomfort. “Uh-huh, just friends. Well, whatever it is, I hope it's going well for you.” Yunjin says supportively. She spins Kazuha around and pushes her out towards the door. “Now go, enjoy your ‘study time’ with this ‘friend’ of yours.” She emphasizes the air quotes, making Kazuha laugh despite her embarrassment.

“Thanks, Yun. I'll see you later.” Kazuha says, giving her friend a quick hug before dashing off towards the library.

As she enters the familiar library doors, her eyes instinctively scan the room, searching for Chaewon. When she doesn't immediately spot her, a small pang of disappointment hits her, but she shakes it off, reminding herself that Chaewon doesn't owe her anything.

With determination, Kazuha heads to their usual table and sets up her study materials. As she starts to work on her assignments, her mind occasionally drifts to thoughts of Chaewon, wondering what the girl might be doing and if she'll show up today.

Just as she's lost in her thoughts, she hears a familiar voice calling her name, and she turns around to find Chaewon standing there with a soft smile. “Hey,” a single hushed word seemed to have an effect on Kazuha as she felt herself melting on the spot. “Sorry, I'm a bit late.” Chaewon says apologetically as she takes the seat opposite to Kazuha. Kazuha can feel her heart flutter at the sight of Chaewon, and she can't help but return the smile. “No worries, I'm just glad you made it.” She replies, feeling a rush of relief. They fall into their usual rhythm of studying together, exchanging occasional jokes and light-hearted banter. Kazuha finds herself feeling more comfortable around Chaewon with each passing day. There's a sense of ease and understanding between them that she hasn't experienced with anyone else.

While both were busy with their own thing, Kazuha tries to work up the courage to ask for Chaewon’s socials as she had realized they basically knew a lot about each other but not once had they both brought up their socials. “Zuha-” “Chae-” “No you first- No I insist.” They both laugh at how they had said the exact same things at the same time. Chaewon shakes her head as she ushers Kazuha to say hers first. “I was wondering if I could get your socials?” Kazuha finally asks and this makes Chaewon widen her eyes. “No way! I was going to ask you the same thing too!”

“Seriously?” Kazuha was baffled at the coincidence and Chaewon nodded her head. “Yeah! I’m serious.” She takes out her phone and hands it to Kazuha. With shaky hands Kazuha types out her socials and adds it, hearing a slight buzz from her phone she accepts Chaewon. “There!” Chaewon grins. “You’re really pretty in your posts.” Chaewon blurts out which surprises them both. “Are you saying I’m only pretty on my posts?” Kazuha doesn’t know where she got the confidence as she rests her right cheek on her palm. “You’re always pretty, Zuha.” Chaewon admits, her eyes staring straight at Kazuha who loses all the confidence as she turns red and looks away. “You’re such a smooth talker.” She mumbles. “A smooth talker? I’m simply telling the truth though.” Chaewon continues and Kazuha turns even more redder than before. Can Chaewon just please stop? Suddenly the moment was ruined when Kazuha’s phone started buzzing. Hiding how pissed she was she checked who was calling her. “I’ll go out and take this, I’ll be back.” Kazuha excuses herself as Chaewon nods her head.

By the time Kazuha answers the call, she sighs. “This better be important.” Annoyance laced around her words as she waited for Yunjin to respond. “It is important, come to the dorm your mom delivered some stuff here.” Kazuha feels excitement as she realizes that it meant there were more snacks for her and Yunjin. “I’ll be there in a couple of minutes.” She answers and ends the call. When she goes back inside she sees Chaewon scrolling through her phone. “Sorry about that, my best friend called.” Chaewon puts down her phone and shakes her head. There was that reassuring smile that would be etched on Chaewon’s features. “Don’t worry about it really.” She reassures Kazuha who occupies the seat in front of Chaewon again.

They continue to bond over their shared hobbies and experiences, and as the evening light filters through the library windows, Kazuha realizes how much she enjoys spending time with Chaewon. A thought lingers in her mind, one she's been contemplating for a while.

“Hey, Chaewon.” Kazuha starts nervously, her heart beating faster. “Yeah?” Chaewon looks at her curiously, picking up on the change in Kazuha's demeanor. “I don’t know if I’m the only one who wonders about this but,” she pauses, debating what words to use as Chaewon continues to look at her with so much curiosity in her eyes. “We always hang out here, and I was wondering if uhm,” Kazuha was a mess and Chaewon couldn’t help but coo over the younger girl’s behavior. She doesn’t interrupt Kazuha as she instead places her hand on top of Kazuha’s. This urges Kazuha to finish her sentence. “If you would like to go out with me sometime? Like, not just here in the library, but, you know, like a real date?” Kazuha asks, her cheeks turning pink.

Chaewon's eyes widened in surprise, although she had expected this she didn’t think Kazuha would actually call it a real date, a warm smile spread across Chaewon’s face. “I'd love to, Kazuha.” She replies with a hint of excitement in her voice. “Is now a good time to admit that I've been hoping you'd ask?” Kazuha's heart soars at Chaewon's response, and a sense of joy washes over her. With newfound confidence, she reaches out and takes Chaewon's hand, their fingers intertwining. “T-then how about this weekend? We can go to that new café I heard about.” Kazuha suggests, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. Chaewon nods eagerly. “That sounds perfect. I can't wait.” She says, giving Kazuha's hand a gentle squeeze.

Once again the moment is ruined when someone starts to call her again. Annoyed to another level she answers the call. “Now’s not the right time for you to call Yun.” Kazuha grits her teeth and Chaewon couldn’t help but giggle at Kazuha’s mini outburst. “Yun? This is me Eunchae! I was wondering if you could fetch me? Yunjin unnie said she can’t.” Unable to turn down, she shoots Chaewon an apologetic look to which she luckily understood. “Alright, I’ll head there now.” She sighs as she ends the call. “My best friend’s cousin just called, and she asked if I could fetch her.” She pouts and this makes Chaewon pinch her cheeks. “It’s alright, there’s always tomorrow and plus that date this weekend.” She grins and Kazuha feels as though her heart was close to bursting upon hearing those words from Chaewon.

The moment Kazuha was done with packing her stuff both Kazuha and Chaewon make their way outside the library. “So, I’ll see you tomorrow?” Chaewon asks, her tone hopeful as Kazuha nods her head. “Yeah, see you tomorrow and this Saturday.” She emphasizes her date with the music major and this makes Chaewon turn red. “Text me the details, alright?” She fiddles with her fingers before she does something that catches Kazuha off guard. Chaewon quickly pecks Kazuha’s cheeks before she starts speed walking away. Clearly stunned with what had just happened Kazuha swore there were smokes coming out of her ears at this point as it finally registers what had happened. “Oh my god.” She fans herself as she places her hand on her cheek. She had been standing still like a statue as she forgets where she was. “Oh wait I forgot about Eunchae.” She finally snaps out of it as she walks to the other direction.

Kazuha can’t seem to comprehend how it started with stolen glances in the library that eventually led them to a love that filled their lives and as they continue to support and cherish each other, Kazuha and Chaewon knows that the library now, will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
