chapter seven
bleeding clandestinesAfter Juyeon and her mother relocated into their building, Yoohyeon hasn't been able to have much time at home. Even though her father has not officially appointed her to the role of chief executive officer of their firm just yet, the vampire has had a lot on her plate recently, and she may be starting to feel the pressure of the impending promotion. Due to the amount of work that her father assigns for her to complete, she has not been able to spend as much time as she used to with her friends or with Minji.
It was difficult for her, and she was thinking about her girlfriend much too much over the past few days while she was dealing with all of the stress. They do converse on call occasionally, but since Yoohyeon has been staying inside her office as of late, she has had to make sure that she speaks in the quietest way possible so that her father won't be able to hear what she is saying.
"Do you appear to be in a bad mood whenever you have to work?" Juyeon questioned her, her gaze having shifted to focus on Yoohyeon at this point. After sending a few important papers through email to the higher-ups, she made the decision to take a brief break from her work.
Yoohyeon took some time off from typing in order to look over at Juyeon. Even though she had done nothing but type all day, the girl didn't appear to be stressed in the least.
"Not really," she answered before going back to work. "I just don’t like being here often. I work better when I’m back at home. The environment here is making my brain fry."
"Or perhaps you just can't concentrate because you're thinking about a really important person in your life. I suppose you're missing them a lot?" She was interrogated by Juyeon, which took Yoohyeon completely by surprise.
"What are you talking about?"
Juyeon did not provide a response. She then offered the vampire a pleasant grin before continuing to scan through the emails that she had written. Yoohyeon's gaze became darker as she became aware that her inquiry was being disregarded. It didn't take her long at all to make her way over to Juyeon's table, where she quickly took a seat and began clenching the collar of her buttoned blouse. The other vampire was taken aback, but despite the fact that she was aware that Yoohyeon could strangle her at any moment, she still managed to crack a smile.
"What are you aware of?" Yoohyeon asked another question as she tightened her hold and came perilously close to ripping Juyeon's clothing. "Reply to me at this very moment."
"Whatever you think I know," She responded by taking Yoohyeon's hand in hers and forcefully pulling it away from her body. She gave a quiet chuckle before carefully straightening out her clothing, which had previously wrinkled. "You’re not being very subtle about certain things, Miss Kim."
"So, you know about-"
"I've told you that you're not exactly being cryptic about it. Aside from that, were you seriously under the impression that I would instantly leave the second someone lashed out because you were with me rather than them? If you ask me, that seems rather suspicious."
"So, you made the decision to be nosy and observe both of us in a dark and secluded area? Is that the case?" It was clear that Yoohyeon was upset, but Juyeon didn't pay any attention to it at all. She merely shrugged and then turned her attention back to the laptop in front of her.
"Are you planning to tell my father and have him kick me out of this company and kill the person I love? Is that what your plans have been recently?"
"You judge me way too much, and you’ve only known me for a few weeks," Juyeon stated, and she was back to smiling. "Had I intended to do that all along, I ought to have divulged the information to your father as soon as possible and kept nothing hidden from him. You're smart, Kim Yoohyeon, but sometimes stupid."
The vampire breathed a deep sigh. It was extremely difficult for her to fully understand Juyeon, and she had a hard time grasping what was going through her head as well. It has been difficult for her to trust anyone in recent times, especially in light of the fact that she has been concealing details that could endanger the life of her partner, whom she made a promise to protect. She was unable to let anyone besides her friends learn about her relationship with Minji because doing so would be a threat to her father, who had been through the same suffering that she was going through.
"If this helps you in any case, consider me not your enemy," Juyeon prompted when she noticed Yoohyeon drowning in her thoughts. "In fact, I used to be like you."
"What exactly do you mean by that?"
"I had a past relationship with a human, and despite my best efforts, I was unable to save her life."
Juyeon couldn’t help but smile as she walked along the shore, her hand intertwined with her lover’s. After a couple of months of the girl begging her to take her to the beach and watch the sunset together, she has finally complied with her request to be able to surprise her on their special day together—their anniversary.
"Thank you for this," Luda uttered, her smile never leaving her face. She jumped to give Juyeon a tight embrace, causing the both of them to fall to the sandy ground. Juyeon just laughed before helping the girl stand up.
When Juyeon noticed that the sun was about to set in the distance, she quickly dug into her back pocket and brought a tiny box outside with her. As she watched Luda blissfully gaze at the setting sun casting long shadows on the ground and the sky turning into a tint that was a mix of yellow, orange, and red, she couldn't help but beam into a satisfying grin. After the sun had finally gone down, Juyeon knelt on the ground and opened the small box that had been resting on her palm the entire time.
It was a diamond ring, and Luda almost teared up as she looked down at her girlfriend.
"Juyeonie, what-"
"I know our relationship has been a bumpy rollercoaster ride for the past few years, but I’m thankful because you still stayed with me despite everything. I only see you as the person I want to be with in the coming years and even in my next life, if we're ever given a chance to meet once again. I promise I’ll continue loving you and fighting for us no matter what, but I hope you’d also choose to be with me in this journey for a lifetime," Juyeon said, trying not to choke on her words because of how nervous she felt. "Lee Luda, will you be my wife?"
However, before Luda was able to wrap up her response, her body collapsed on top of Juyeon, forcing the vampire to let go of the engagement ring she was holding in an attempt to catch her. When she looked down, she saw that her girlfriend had an arrow pierced right through her chest, and blood was pouring out of as she coughed. She turned around with shaky hands as she held the body of her dying lover, only to discover one of the vampires that worked for Yoohyeon's grandfather holding on t
