Return of DaeJae!
BlindlyJongup felt like he had been pushed really hard.
His head felt light, and he could only see black. Afraid, Jongup breathed in sharply and tried to move around. After thrashing around, Jongup found that someone was shaking him.
He opened his eyes and quickly shut them as the light flooded the room he was in.
“Jongup, honey, wake up! Daehyun and Youngjae are here!”
“Mom?” Jongup looked up at the kind woman, who was gently smiling at him.
The bright room he was in was none other than his old bedroom in Seoul. Sunlight came straight through the window and brightened his room.
And this woman...she was definitely his mother.
“Are you feeling alright?” Mrs. Moon asked, holding the back of her hand up to Jongup’s forehead.
“Yes, mom.” Jongup said, a huge smile on his face. He leaned forward and hugged her tightly.
She chuckled a little and smoothed his hair. “Come on, get ready Jonguppie-ah. Your friends are waiting for you. What would they think if they saw what a mommy’s boy you are?” She and Jongup laughed as they pulled back.
“Tell them I’ll be right there!” Jongup said as Mrs. Moon left the room to let him change.
Next to his pillow, the blue rose nearly shone in the sunlight. Jongup smiled again and picked it up.
He held the beautiful flower in his hand and slowly pinched another petal off.
"I wish that my father wasn't an alcoholic." Jongup spoke slowly and carefully. He didn't want the past to be repeated again.
Nothing seemed to happen, so Jongup just prayed that it worked.
Jongup then went to his closet and saw everything back in place as it was before he moved. His grin only grew bigger. Quickly he picked out his outfit and changed, wanting to see if Daehyun and Youngjae were truly waiting for him downstairs.
“Yah, what took you so long Sleeping Beauty!” Youngjae said, grinning and immediately hugging Jongup.
Daehyun laughed, “I bet you went back to sleep again.”
Laughing, Jongup felt happy again. This is how he wanted his life to be. Jongup hugged his Daehyun hyung too, who patted him on the back.
"Want to go to the mall? That new video game just came out." Youngjae suggested, "I bet I can beat it before you two."
"As if!" Jongup said, hitting Youngjae playfully. Jongup grabbed his wallet from the kitchen table and stuffed it into his back pocket.
Before they could go, Jongup's father walked in through the door. The three stopped and looked at Mr. Moon expectantly.
Jongup nearly felt his heart stop. He hoped, no, prayed, that his father would be different because of his wish. The first wish had already worked--he was able to see his mother and his friends. He was concerned that life would be the same, just like as it had been before his mother's death.
But he watched his mother happily greet him. They both were smiling as Mr. Moon twirled her in the air. Something was a little off about his father, but Jongup dismissed his thoughts. They went back in time, of course his father would be different.
"I got the job, jagiya!" Mr. Moon said happily, tossing his coat onto the couch near him. "I start tomorrow. It has a lot of benefits, and it pays well!"
"That's great yeobo...It'll really help to pay for Jonguppie's college." Jongup saw his mother smile the brightest he had seen in a long, long time.
He remembered when she used to flinch each time his father came in. Jongup just pictured his frightened mother, cowering in fear whenever his father decided to come home--usually drunk. But his mother's smile right now wiped away all the bad memories.
"Hey, Jongup! Oh, hello Youngjae and Daehyun! You headed to the mall?" Mr. Moon asked, happily greeting the three boys.
"Neh, Mr. Moon! We were going to get that new video game that just came out." Youngjae said, politely bowing towards Jongup's father.
"Ah, that reminds me... " Mr. Moon walked to the couch and looked into the inner pocket of his jacket. He pulled out a video game case and passed it to Daehyun.
Daehyun's jaw dropped. "It's the limited edition!" Youngjae and Jongup immediately crowded around Daehyun and stared at the case in his hands. "Figured you boys might like it. Consider it a gift." Mr. Moon chuckled, delighted to see the boys' excited faces.
"Last one to the Xbox gets the worst weapons!" Jongup shouted. The three boys rushed off as quick as they could to play their new game.
"Kids." Mr. and Mrs. Moon said in unison, laughing together.
---
Jongup, Youngjae, and Daehyun played for hours, engrossed in their game. Mrs. Moon brought up dinner for them so they could play more. However, it was soon time for the two guests to go back home.
"Aw man. I can't believe you beat me so many times..." Youngjae groaned, placing the controller back near the console.
Daehyun laughed as he did the same, "You take too long to reload!"
"Says the person who I slaughtered like fifty times!" Jongup said, turning the joke on Daehyun. The three boys all laughed again as Daehyun and Youngjae collected their things.
When Daehyun and Youngjae left, Jongup quickly went to take a shower. He was happy to see that there wasn't any bruising anywhere on his body. In fact, no blemishes at all. Jongup took a hot shower, changed, and went back to his room.
His room. He hadn't realized it, but he really missed it a lot after he moved to that other house in the woods. Now things were back the way they were supposed to be.
Jongup sighed contentedly and collapsed on his bed. A huge smile was plastered on his face as he let out a deep breath.
"Things are back the way they are supposed to be." Jongup voiced his thoughts before drifting off to sleep.
