TEASER ONE: I CHOOSE YOU!
Of course, on any other day, you would have spent anywhere from five extra minutes to half an hour on the comforts of your bed, contemplating your very own existence on the planet and thinking to yourself what the cost is of snoozing your alarm, possibly getting yelled at by your mom, but fortunately, today is not that day…
Because, today is the day where you get your very first pokemon.
(I know, exciting right?)
And so, you kick your blanket away, turning off the pokeball-shaped alarm clock, and you slide off your bed and make your way to the restroom. You certainly look like you had just woken up minutes ago, hair resembling that of a bird’s nest, but your expression is nothing but a bright smile, feeling as if some cheesy coming-of-age movie opening song is playing in the background.
Even though you still are a bit drowsy, you quickly run through your usual morning routine and slip out of your room, almost tripping over your family’s Munchlax when heading downstairs. He blinks sleepily, looking like he just woke up as well, and you give him a warm pat on the head before chirping a good morning to your mom.
"You're up early today," she comments as she's setting up plates and utensils on the dining table. "Even Dad isn't up yet."
"Of course! The professor only has three of the starter pokemon that we can choose from, and if I'm late by even a minute, there won't be any choices left for me." You plop down at your usual seat and grab a piece of burnt toast from the table, taking a large bite of it.
Before joining you at the table, your mom first opens a can of pokemon food and dumps the contents out onto a bowl. Even though Munchlax seems to be in a half-awake half-asleep state, he whips his head up upon hearing the opening of a can and makes his way to your mom, placing his paws on her leg.
"Now now, Munchlax, be a bit patient will you?" She lightly scolds, setting down the bowl by his feet. She then hangs up her apron and takes a seat across from you. "And you too. No need to rush, there's always time for breakfast. You're not gonna be able to even process the food if you eat this fast."
As if on cue, you choke a little on the bread, coughing and hitting your chest with your free hand. "Sorry Mom, but not today."
Stuffing down the remains of breakfast, you get up from your seat and go grab a messenger bag from the clothes rack. You adjust the hems of your shirt one last time in the mirror, pleased with your attire.
"Then at least grab a hat for this weather." Your mom fusses before placing a cap on your head, fitting it tightly so it doesn't fall off. "Did you make sure to put on sunscreen? Have your ID in your bag? And your keys?"
You lift up your bag, reassuring her that you got everything you need for the short ride. She always has a habit of being a worrywart. "Mom, no need to worry. It's not like I'm going anywhere, the professor's lab is still in town." Besides, it's not like you're ten or something.
Although she seems dissatisfied with your words, she gives you a pat on the back and a farewell smile. "Well, take care then. Don't forget to come back after and show us what you got." Even Munchlax, who was quite preoccupied with his food, hears the sound of the house door opening and takes a brief moment to say goodbye with a wave of his arm.
"Mhm Mom, I'll be taking off now! You too Munchlax, bye!"
Upon setting foot outside of your house, you're immediately greeted by the dazzling summer sun, showering you with a familiar warmth. You hop onto your bike, thinking this will be faster than taking the public transit.
Despite what you told your mom, the trip to the professor's lab will take a good fifteen minutes, seeing ho
