The Queen

3 Identities of my Mysterious Wife

Kevin woke up to a smell of butter and pancakes. He frowned as he squinted at the clock.

It was too early for the cooks to be making breakfast yet. He got out of bed, wanting to ask them to sleep again, when he stopped in his tracks, nothing who was in the kitchen.

Mihye was dressed in a simple white tee and brown shorts, with a cute hello kitty apron. She flipped the pancakes easily and hummed a tune while she worked at it. Kevin gulped at the scene, his single status suddenly bothering him a lot.

"Mihye? What are you doing so early?" he asked, walking nearer. The smell of pancakes assaulted his nose and he suddenly felt hungry, craving for more.

Mihye blinked at him. "Oh Kevin oppa! Good morning." she chirped good naturedly. "I was just preparing breakfast for all of us before Byunghun oppa wakes up. My mother always says breakfast has to be done by the wife instead of cooks." she smiled.

"But still..." Kevin frowned.

"It's okay. It's not difficult to make pancakes. I hope Byunghun oppa will like them." she smiled, flipping another. "Oh and I must remember to lay Byunghun oppa's shoes out before he goes to work. Remind me if I forget."

*Byunghun is sure lucky.* Kevin thought as he moved into the kitchen. He took the pan from her. "I'll do this. Why don't you take out the bacon and eggs from the kitchen? Byunghun likes those too."

Mihye smiled at him brightly. "Thank you, Kevin oppa." she beamed, before heading to make scrambled eggs. Kevin looked at her from behind and marveled at how a wife looks like.

*I'd give anything to have such a beautiful wife make me breakfast. Just once.* he thought dreamily.

L.Joe was surprised by the aroma of pancakes and maple syrup when he woke. He blinked, astonished, when he saw Mihye laying the table. "What are you doing?" he asked, raking his bed hair with his fingers.

"Oh. Morning Byunghun oppa." Mihye smiled lightly. "I made breakfast. Wash up and come eat." she gestured.

L.Joe frowned. "You don't have to do this, Mihye. We have cooks."

"I know. But umma said to always make breakfast for my husband." she shrugged. "It's nothing big, really. I can manage." she smiled.

L.Joe bit his lip to prevent him from caring as he turned to wash up. He didn't know why, but that feeling of a wife caring for him early in the morning made him feel blessed and happy. *She makes the perfect wife.* he thought.

After L.Joe had gone to work, Mihye and Kevin were chatting while drinking tea in the garden. Kevin was surprised that Mihye opted to stay at home, when she could be out shopping or having fun.

"Why didn't you go out, Mihye?" Kevin asked, curious. "You can be shopping or having high tea."

Mihye shook her head. "That's a waste of money. Besides, reading a book like this is more meaningful because I get something out of it." she smiled at him.

Kevin nodded, feeling the unstoppable admiration for this girl in front of him wash over him again. She read a few more lines before she closed her book. "Why are you a butler, Kevin oppa?" she suddenly asked.

Kevin blinked. "Eh?"

Mihye giggled. "I mean, is this your dream to be a butler? Why did you choose to be a butler?" she probed, curious.

Kevin shook his head. "I didn't choose to be a butler, Mihye. It was the right thing to do." he sighed softly, causing Mihye to perk up curiously.

"My father and Byunghun's father were friends since we were young." Kevin explained. "I knew Byunghun since we were kids but we weren't very close to each other since he had his Teen Top friends and I had mine. Once, my father ran up to a large debt because of his gambling habits, and the loan sharks threatened to sell my mother as a e and me for child labour."

"That's horrible." Mihye gasped in shock.

Kevin nodded. "It is." he muttered. "But thankfully, Byunghun's father lent us that huge amount of money to clear the debts, even though at that time he was also rather tight in terms of finance as well because Byunghun's grandmother was in the hospital. And he didn't even ask for anything in return."

*That's really nice.* Mihye thought, thinking of Mr Lee in a new light now.

"My father didn't agree. He couldn't just take and not give anything back." Kevin frowned. "So he worked as a butler for the Lees till the day he died. When he did, I continued his job to continue paying of the debt."

"I see. That's incredibly nice of you, Kevin oppa." Mihye whispered.

Kevin pinked. "But don't you have something you really want to do instead, Kevin oppa?" Mihye asked curiously. "I'm sure you don't want to be a butler for the rest of your life. Can't you pursue your chosen career and pay the Lees back at the same time?"

Kevin nodded. "I just thought of that not long ago. I'm interested in artchitechture, actually." his cheeks reddened even more. "I got a night class in artchitechture, and I'm going to graduate from it in some months. By then, I'll be able to become an artchitech and I can pay for the debt at the same time."

"That's wonderful!" Mihye clapped genuinely pleased. Kevin smiled at her, appreciating the genuine concern Mihye showed for him. He suddenly had that urge to do better to show her what he was made of.

Mihye's phone rang and she picked it up curiously. "Hm? Hyomin unnie?" her eyes widened. "Arraso. I'll be there." She sprang up from her seat and raced to the door. "I'll be going out, Kevin oppa. Please don't tell Byunghun oppa or our parents. Please keep it a secret." she pleaded.

"But where are you going?" Kevin frowned.

"I can't tell you." Mihye bit her lip. "But I assure you it's going to be safe. Don't worry, I'll be back soon." she disappeared through the door. Kevin pouted and settled back on his chair. "Where are you going, Mihye? Why must you be so secretive about it?"

Mihye arrived at the secret head quarters and looked around. Pleased that there wasn't anyone about, she slipped into the seemingly abandoned building and headed straight for the Organization's conference room.

"The Queen is here." Qri announced when Mihye came, and the chatters in the room slowly dissloved to none. Everyone in the organization called Mihye the Queen, even though they knew her real name. They just thought it was a worthy title for the girl, since she cared for them, led them, brought them hope like a real Queen does.

"What's the problem?" Mihye asked, crossing her fingers.

A group of girls came forward. "We went to several interviews today." one of them spoke up. "The government has encouraged Gender Equality, but we don't see the results of it. We were casted aside and asked to go home when they saw that we were females. They didn't even give us any chance! It's totally unfair!" she complained.

"Really? They just rejected you like this?" Mihye frowned.

"Yeah!" another one nodded. "I saw from the window when they were reading my resume, they looked rather impressed. That was, until they saw that my name was a girl, and they immediately rejected me. I thought they said they were giving females a chance to work now, but they're just saying it! They're not doing it!"

Mihye shook her head in disappointment. Hyomin nudged her gently. "What are we supposed to do now?"

Mihye clenched her teeth. "Just let me do it. It'll be the tip of the ice berg." she whispered as she got out her laptop.
