Chapter I: The Almost-Accident

Beautiful Voice of Your Heart

Kim Junsu was speeding towards the crowded street of Insa-dong, which was well-known as Seoul’s shopping centre of art. Even though it was still seven in the morning, the place was full-packed with people, domestics and foreigns, who were craving for Korean traditional souvenirs. The cars and other vehicles were marching on the road in a quite slow movement, breaking the beautiful serenity of that sunrise time. As he decreased his speed, Junsu noticed there were some Western folks also, led by a native man, definitely their tour guide.

Junsu tapped his fingers on the steering wheel as he finally stopped behind the zebra-cross to give some access to the pedestrians. Sighing, Junsu couldn’t help but feel impatient all of a sudden. That was his very worst morning, probably could be the most terrible day of his life.

It had started the night before, when Junsu was practicing for his upcoming musical project. It hadn’t been his best though; his vocal performance was definitely in its worst condition. He wasn’t the type to justify and defend only him, but what else must he do? He was also busy preparing for his album with JYJ, In Heaven, and both those activities consumed his energy until the very end. No wonder he always felt like waking up on the wrong side of the bed in those recent weeks.

The night before, soon after he finished his recording sessions along with Jaejoong and Yoochun, he attended the musical rehearsal. And that was where the disaster began. His voice, no matter how hard he’d worked on it, had suddenly disappeared, leaving him only with hoarse sound coming from his sore throat. Dissastified, Junsu had forced himself to do it over and over again, even after one by one his musical team left the hall where they were practicing. He finally gave it up at 5 AM, not like he was tired nor desperate, but because his voice had totally lost.

He started moving forward as the pedestrians passed his cars by, making a mental note in his memory to visit the doctor. It wasn’t the first throughout his long career-he’d ever experienced laryngitis years before-but he really hoped he would get better soon.

As if the situation couldn’t get any worse, Junsu had received a text message from his mother earlier that morning, in which she asked him to buy some antique souvenirs in Insa-dong before he drove home. Some Japanese friends of his mother had been just leaving Seoul that time, but they funnily had forgotten to visit the famous place to get some stuff for themselves. And when it came to his mother, Junsu absolutely couldn’t give no as his answer.

Feeling extremely tired because of that all night rehearsing, Junsu pushed himself further to keep his eyes on the road. He drove carefully, pausing continously to take a glance at his left and right side to decide from which store he would get his souvenirs. It must be the least crowded, containing just one or two persons, and the most secluded, to make sure that there wouldn’t be any chaos caused by the prominent Kim Junsu shopping in an art market.

But while he was keeping his pace, one vague figure suddenly appeared from his right side and walked before his sports car. Automatically, Junsu gave it a strong brake force, causing the four tires of his vehicle to stop instantly and making long squeaking noise as they rubbed against the asphalt pavement. People around them were shrieking in horror but fortunately the machine stopped moving before it could touch the stranger.

“HEYYY!!” Junsu stretched his neck out of his window to yell to the figure, which-after Junsu’d stared more precisely-was a girl of his age. “Watch where you’re going, miss!”

The girl didn’t respond. Her eyes were still bewildered from the accident she almost had, but just a second later, her face lightened in relieved. She didn’t bother to say a thing; actually she didn’t seem to notice who was sitting on the driver’s seat. She bent down to pick up something off the pavement and when she straightened herself back, Junsu saw a cute little puppy in her arms.

‘So that was why she walked directly to me,’Junsu thought, ‘to save the puppy.’

The girl flashed him a smile, and aside of being slightly annoyed, Junsu couldn’t help but realize that she had an angelic face. He tried to smile back but failed because the girl turned around and left him; the brown puppy was comfortable in her loving hug.

Getting curious all of a sudden, Junsu quickly parked his car on the drive side before fixing his hoodie and covering his face with a pair of enormous sunglasses. He got out of his car to run after the girl, carefully avoiding the people who stood on his way. Whispering was spreading among the Insa-dong’s visitors, but Junsu didn’t mind at all. For some unknown reasons, the girl was more important for him.

“Wait!” yelled Junsu, but the girl kept walking in ease. She turned calmly to an alley and for a second Junsu was afraid of losing her trace. But as he followed her steps to the secluded yet tidy passageway, he released a long breath of contentment because the girl he ran after was standing in front of a mini antique store. A man was present too; Junsu only needed a couple of blinks to guess that he was her father.

“Eunmi-ah!” said the older man. “Where have you been? I heard there was almost an accident; were you there? Are you all right?”

The middle-aged man looked very concerned; he checked out every inch of his daughter’s form to reassure himself that she was okay. The girl, meanwhile, only smiled widely, tightening her hold to the puppy. She turned around for several times as if she was trying to show him she was never better, but still she didn’t say anything.

Junsu’s thought instantly went back to annoyance as he recognized how very rude that Eunmi girl was. Yes, she smiled to answer her father, and yes, her smile was so full of warm, but she didn’t bother to say even a single word. Her father looked very anxious and she didn’t want to waste a sentence to comfort him. How outrageous!

“Your daughter has behaved very nicely, ahjussi,” taking the opportunity, Junsu took off his glasses, stepped forward, and explained to the girl’s father. “She was almost hit by my car just to save the puppy in her arms.”

Both persons in front of him turned their heads to stare at him in surprise. The girl looked at him with an understanding on her face.

‘She must recognize who I am,’Junsu instantly thought. He began to feel uneasy; from his almost eight year in entertainment world, he’d learnt that girls couldn’t stop screaming once they saw him. He closed his eyes tight to anticipate the high-pitch shouting of his name, the sudden hug, and the unwelcomed touches, but they never came.

Snapping his eyes open, Junsu received a confused stare of the girl’s father. The older man was probably puzzled from Junsu’s strange action. Junsu cleared his throat nervously and said, “I’m sorry, ahjussi, I should’ve introduced myself first. I’m Kim Junsu.”

With those words, he bowed respectfully to the elder. The man bowed back. “Nice to meet you, young man. I’m Shim Joonwoo, and this is my daughter, Shim Eunmi.”

‘Shim! That surname!’Junsu bewildered of the mentioning of his former band mate surname he hardly noticed that the girl only bowed to him without introducing herself. The one who’d become his best friend during his day as a member of Dong Bang Shin Ki, whom he considered as his own brother. But soon he tried to erase the thought of his ex friend.

‘No!’ Junsu shook his head. ‘Both of them have walked away from our lives. Both of them have forgotten us. I’m not remembering their names no more.’

“Junsu-ssi, are you okay?” asked Joonwoo. He’d leaned closer to Junsu to make sure that his visitor was fine. “You’re deep in thoughts.”

“I’m fine, ahjussi, thank you,” smiled Junsu. “I was wondering about your daughter. She seems to be in my age, and yet she looks like she doesn’t know me. But it’s okay, I know I’m just an average singer.”

That was of course an understatement. He was the Kim Junsu; every youngster in Asia knew him! But Junsu himself was a modest persona; he wasn’t surprise when one didn’t be familiar with him at once. He was just confused of Eunmi’s weirdness. They’d been standing together for the last five minutes and the girl didn’t make even a little sound.

The man sighed. “Even if she knew you, she wouldn’t be able to tell us. She’s mute.”

I am going to patiently wait for any possible update, once you could find the time. ;)
A friend of mine once told me not to force your inspiration out. Just let it flow~ It's not like being a writer in the AFF is our main job in the real world. ^^;
