'If you love Kim Junsu, then you must let him free. Divorce him.'

The Significance of One

Hang Kyung’s POV

I got ready. I was going to tell Li Yin my plan. So that she would stay away from Junsu. I rang the door bell on the Kim’s.

“Hello?” a soft and melodic voice rang from the interceptor.

“Li Yin, it’s me, Han Geng,” I said through the receiver.

“Oh, come in,” the voice invited. I open the door and saw Li Yin, sitting on the couch, watching the 2010 World Cup. She turned around and smiled at the sight of me.

“How did you get there so fast? Weren’t you just talking in the receiver?” I asked her, amazed. She held up a phone and I nodded in understanding.

“So, what brings you here?” Li Yin asked. I immediately turned serious.

“Li Yin, you must think positive,” I started.

“Yeah,” she said.

“If you love Kim Junsu, then you must let him free. Divorce him,” I said. I looked at the many emotions that played across her face.

“That will never work. You know about the situation with Appa and Omma. They will never agree to this,” she said.

“That is why I am here. From now on, you are Junsu’s blood related cousin,” I announced.

“What?” she asked me.

“I have created you a fake identity, linking all the way that you are Junsu’s cousin,” I said. dropped open.

“What…? How…? I…” she stuttered.

“Don’t you remember that I am someone very smart?”I said. She nodded her head, face away from me.

“Then, are you planning to tell him?” I asked eagerly. She was silent, thinking. She seems reluctant.

Ri In’s POV

I was thinking about what Han Gang said. Should I let Junsu go? I know I can’t live without him but this is all for his happiness. But Han Geng said his cousin. So I get to stay by his side, right?

“Will I be able to stay by his side?” I asked Han Geng. He instantly brightened up.

“Yes, of course. But only as cousin, that is,” he said. I felt saddened that I could only stand by his side as a cousin by at least I can still stand by his side. I decided.

“When can I tell him?” I asked him. His smile grew wider.

“We can start in two days,” he answered. I looked at him questioningly.

“I need to prepare all those history records and you have to find a time to tell his parents and him at the same time,” Han Geng replied my unspoken question.

“Oh, I see,” I said. I wasn’t really ready for all this. I felt pressure. I was scared but I shouldn’t be. I should be happy that I get what I want and Junsu gets what he wants.

“Li Yin, I need to get going. I will see you some other time,” Han Geng said.

“See you,” I said, absentminded. My mind was occupied by the thoughts of divorcing Junsu. Even the words sounded harsh to me. After two days, I will no longer be the wife of Kim Junsu but only his cousin.

“Wait, Han Geng Oppa!” I called out to him before he opened the door of the house.

“Yes?” he called back.

“Do I need to set up any divorce papers?” I asked, scared. I didn’t want to do it myself. Being Junsu’s cousin was worse enough.

“Yes, you do,” he answered. I felt lost. I had to do it myself. I heard the door close and I knew that Han Geng had gone. Ignoring the goal that just went in, I grabbed the phone and dialled the lawyers.

“Yobosaeyo, Kim and Co. lawyers,” a woman said.

“I-I would like to arrange for an appointment,” I said, rather not so calmly.

“OK, you can come by this afternoon, around twelve,” the woman said.

“O-OK, thanks,” I thanked.

“That’s OK. Bye,” she said.

“Bye,” I said and disconnected the line. I sighed. I looked up at the clock in my house and it revealed the time of eleven thirty. I still have thirty minutes left. This will be enough time for me to get there. I sighed and grabbed my keys to drive to the lawyers.

Junsu’s POV

I glanced outside to my office. I just couldn’t work anymore. I felt like I was missing something. I tried to concentrate but my eyes always found their ways to Ri In’s office. Whenever they do, I always feel disappointed because I couldn’t see Ri In. I knew what this meant but I forced myself to think likewise.

*knock*knock*

“Come in!” I called. The door opened to reveal Appa. I immediately stood up and bowed to Appa.

“Appa, what brings you here?” I asked.

“Oh, I just wanted to have dinner with you guys some day. Your Omma is seriously nagging me so much just to eat dinner together with you two,” Appa said. I smiled.

“OK, we can have dinner on Thursday, two days later,” I said to Appa.

“OK, your Omma and I will be free by then,” Appa said.

“That’s good,” I lied. I really didn’t want to eat dinner with Omma and Appa when Ri In is there, “is there anything else you need?” I asked him.

“I think that’s all. By the way, have you been treating Ri In well?” he asked me. I was nervous. All I need is to say four words.

“Yes, Appa, I have,” I fibbed.

“That’s good then. Oh well, see you. I have some work I have to do,” Appa excused himself.

“See you Appa,” I said after him. I sighed as I leaned against my chair, using two hands to cover my face. I rubbed them back and forth. I was going to have to deal with telling Ri In tonight.

Ri In’s POV

“Can you please sign here, Miss Ri In?” the lawyer asked, pointing to a line. I hesitated. If I have mine and Junsu’s signature, we are no longer husband and wife. I couldn’t even bear to think that.

“C-can I bring home and then sign it?” I asked. Clearly I wanted to stay husband and wife longer with Junsu when he signs the papers. Even seconds count for me.

“Yes, you can,” he replied calmly. I grabbed the papers into my hands and shoved them into a folder.

“Thank you,” I thanked.

“That’s OK. It’s our job. But, Miss Ri In, are you sure about your decision? You seem very reluctant,” the lawyer asked.

“Isn’t everyone that comes here reluctant?” I asked him, confused.

“Your reluctance seems different from everyone. They seem to have nothing to hold on after they sign but you, your face is twisted in many ways. Like letting go food just so someone else can eat it,” he explained. Am I that easy to read?

“I guess I am an open book then,” I joked and laughed awkwardly. He joined me a bit softly.

“Just make sure you think about it again,” he warned me.

“I will,” I reassured him, “Thank you for helping me,” I added after.

“Didn’t I say it was my job?” he asked and we both laughed.

“I better get going then,” I told the lawyer.

“Yes, yes. I do hope to see you again with that ripped up.” He referred to papers.

“That is one impossible,” I said. We both laughed again.

“Okay, see you,” I bided.

“See you,” he said and I exited out of the building.

I was driving when I thought about what the lawyer said. Should I think about it? But it wouldn’t make any difference anyway. All I wanted is that Junsu will be happy. Beside Taeyeon or whoever else he prefers. I looked at the clock on my car and saw it was one thirty. I sighed in frustration. There was nothing more I could do now. I was bored, totally and utterly bored. I couldn’t call Yeonhee because she was at work and I couldn’t call Han Geng because he was doing all ‘that’ for me. I passed a cake shop while driving aimlessly and an idea came to me. I could visit everyone at the company now. I parked my car on the curb and got off. I opened the door of the place and the smell of cake invited me in further. I walked up to the counter and looked at the wide range of cakes. The one that caught my attention was the round one; the round black and white soccer ball. I smiled immediately, knowing what I went without too much pressure on deciding.

“Excuse me miss, may I have the one on the far right?” I asked politely and pointed.

“Sure,” she said and smiled brightly. She crouched over to get the cake and brought it up. While she was busy with wrapping the cake and whatnot, I looked outside the window. It was very sunny today. The sun light was bouncing off my car window. I loved this weather the most. It was bright and sunny. Every passer by either looked happy or busy. I thought about the many problems that existed around the worlds. At least everyone had one. That counted over more than a million. Everyone has at least a problem to handle. Whether it is financial problems, love problems, friendship problems, there is bound to be a problem.

“Excuse me miss. I am done,” the woman said and I turned around. I took the money out of my bag and exchanged it for the cake. Once I got the cake in my hands, I wobbled it a bit. It wasn’t as light as I thought it would be. I stumbled into my car and placed the cake in the passenger seat. I walked to the other side of the car and drove off towards the direction of the company.

Junsu’s POV

I was trying to get Ri In out of my mind and it finally worked. I was flipping through the pieces of paper I had in front of me, reading and signing stuff. I guess if the company doesn’t have Ri In, then it would be alright anyway. I looked at the certificate that hung on my wall. It wasn’t supposed to be mine. It was supposed to be Ri In’s. She and her team worked hard on the project, only to be taken all the credits. I suddenly felt guilty. I quickly shook the feeling off and concentrated on my work. I had an uneasy feeling that something bad was going to happen. I didn’t know what but I felt restless.

Ri In’s POV

I was humming a tune to myself while waiting for the green light to come on. Cars were passing very fast, back and forth. The red light finally turned green and I started to rev up my engine. Just as I was about to cross the junction, I saw a silver car heading right in my direction…
